Issue: Getting a credit card
Subissue: Card opened without my consent or knowledge
Consumer Complaint: I receieved an email from XXXX that an account opening was attempted to open an American Express XXXX XXXX Credit Card. A month ago, XXXX mailed me a bill as well stating that someone purchased 3 cell phones under my name and social as well and reported it to fraud. Fraud company didn't provide me the XXXX nor XXXX address from the individual that opened the account or provide me hardly any details that could be pinpointed toward the suspect and asked to hire a lawyer if I wanted further information. I placed a credit freeze on all 3 credit bureaus after the unauthorized account opening with XXXX and this still happened with AMEX. Not sure how this happens with credit freezes.

Consumer Complaint: I have contacted American Express on multiple attempts for the account AMEX Business Platinum to remove the charge off on my credit report. They have violated 15 USC 1611. It is now a charge off which is considered a certificate of indebtness on my credit report and income can't be reported on there. Not only that, I've never gave them permission to report transaction history to third party companies nor have they asked me for permission 15 USC 6802. They also have violated the following 15 USC 6801 - Protection of nonpublic personal information. In the terms & conditions of AMEX, it specifically says that my information will not be reported to third parties in which the 3 credit bureaus are a 3rd party. This blemish on my credit report has caused grief to feeding my family as I can't apply for business loans or credit cards at all. According 16 CFR 313.7 - Form of opt out notice to consumers ; opt out methods, they were supposed to provide me a form of opt methods but I have never received anything, via mail, verbally, or email. I have attached a letter that I've sent to AMEX in XXXX. I've sent the letter multiple times with no resolution despite citing 26 CFR 1.1232-1 - Bonds and other evidences of indebtedness ; scope of section

Consumer Complaint: While traveling in XXXX we were approached by representatives of XXXX XXXX. My husband won the grand prize of either an XXXX, a cruise, a trip at one of 7 hotels here, or {$1000.00} gift card ( that must be used there ) We attended their presentation and we purchased a license agreement on XX/XX/XXXX at the company 's offices in XXXX. We were told this would allow us to purchase vacation packages at discounted prices. After further research, we determined this was not the case and that there were many complaints due to many fraudulent claims. Much of the information provided during the sales talk was unsupported, false or fraudulent. The phone numbers provided for the corporate offices located in the states were fraudulent. We exercised our right to cancel our contract within the three day time frame according to our contract by personally dropping off a cancellation letter to the companys offices on XX/XX/25. We asked the gentleman who had given the presentation if we needed anything else and he said no. The next day on XX/XX/XXXX, XXXX left a message on my voicemail stating he had received our letter and wanted to discuss. We were traveling and not able to return his call. He left another message the following day saying he was having trouble crediting our card. ( I still have the audio calls. ) This was because by that point I had canceled my card. After our dispute with American Express was denied, we were told to contact the merchant. I did this on XX/XX/XXXX. I was told by XXXX that we had already been credited by American Express and that he could not help us. At this time, he acknowledged he had our cancellation letter in our file. After I explained to him that this was not the case, and that American Express had told me to contact them, he had me talk to XXXX, who said that because we had filed a dispute, we were already credited, and they were not able to refund our money. I tried to explain that this was not the case and that we were still waiting on our refund. This company forces you to cancel their contract in person but does not give you a receipt and then refuses to refund your money. American Express is refusing my dispute based on no proof of cancellation. I have sent all the following information to prove cancellation. How is American Express not helping me get my money back. How else can I prove it? How is XXXX allowing this company to defraud American tourists. 1. I have a voice mail recording from XXXX stating that he had received and was calling about my cancellation letter. I have sent a transcript of that message in the past and have the audio proof. 2. I have submitted photos to show that I did indeed deliver the cancellation letter in person to the sales office. 3. I have sent a copy of the cancellation letter that was delivered to them. 4. I have also included the name of the authorized agent for the vendor which is the same individual who left me the message. 5. The agent has verbally acknowledged the cancellation letter in our file. 6. We have had no access to the account since XXXX. 7. I have asked the vendor to send a receipt of my cancellation letter and they have not. They keep saying I need to get my money from American Express. Per their own acknowledgement of receipt, we are entitled to receive our money back. The merchant is not saying they don't have my cancellation letter, they are saying they can not give me my money back that it has to come from American Express. If the company refuses to give a refund, then American Express should protect their customers. The company has been unresponsive and uncooperative. American Express keeps responding with the same denial letter stating previous contact with merchant.

Issue: Struggling to pay your bill
Subissue: Filed for bankruptcy
Consumer Complaint: Some time around XXXX, my office manager applied for an American Express Centurion credit card for my company ( a corporation ). We have used this card for about 25 years, until XXXX of XXXX when my company was forced to declare bankruptcy and filed for XXXX XXXX Among the company 's creditors is American Express. Starting in late XXXX, I started receiving calls from someone named " XXXX '' ( he would not give a last name, nor address or email address ), claiming he was from American Express and claimed that I had personally guaranteed the AMEX card and AMEX wanted the balance of approximately {$25000.00} at once. XXXX directed me to the AMEX website where I would see that I was responsible for my corporation 's debts. Because the website was a generic agreement with no specific reference to me or even a website that i had reason to believe had the same requirements as when my office manager applied for the card 25 years ago. Therefore, I requested that XXXX provide me with documentation of the fact that I had guaranteed the card ( i.e., that I would be personally responsible for the balance if my corporation could not pay ), along with my signature agreeing to the conditions. After several additional and acrimonious calls, XXXX said I would receive some information, which arrived in the mail last week, although again, this was just a form. I need to see something that has my signature guaranteeing that I am responsible for any debts, regardless of the bankruptcy of my company ( the holder of the AMEX card ). I was advised by a third party to contact " AMEX Special Research '' ( see attached file ) and supplied with a fax number ; however, the fax would not go through, so I mailed the fax to a physical address, but so far, no response. I would like to resolve this issue because XXXX becomes more threatening with each call, to the point where it is becoming frightening.

Consumer Complaint: I received an American Express gift card for XXXX dollars from my employer, but so far I have used it at 4 retailers and all were declined. I have called their customer service 3 times and each time they tell me that this is for security purposes and that most retailers accept them. However they can not provide a list of acceptable retailers and I just have to keep trying until one accepts the card. This is unacceptable as I'm unable to use the card at this time at any retailers I've tried, and they just keep telling me to try other vendors and can do nothing for me. I have used Amex Gift cards in the past at these retailers ( XXXX, XXXX, XXXX ) and it is only this year that things have changed.

Consumer Complaint: I was given an AMEX gift card as a XXXX gift from my work. I've tried to use my AMEX {$200.00} gift card on a multitude of websites and it declines every time without fail. I've checked the balance and know for a fact that it has money on it. Granted, no longer {$200.00} as every time I try to use it, it charges a XXXX cent pending fee. So it can do that, but for some reason can't just work. I tried calling AMEX and received no help.
