Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement

Subissue: Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement

Consumer Complaint: A dispute on a company for {$4400.00} was initiated on XX/XX/XXXX. I made the order from that company 2 weeks before and they never sent me any information about an order confirmation or tracking number or anything of that nature. They did not even ask me for a signature on delivery for such an extremely large order. I never received my order after waiting 2 weeks and getting no support or updates from the company I purchased it for so I finally decide to initiate a dispute with my Amex card since the company never shipped my items. Amex at first gave me a temporary credit for this order. I was very pleased with the outcome. Later on, the company started talking to Amex saying they shipped my order but not telling me anything. Where was this information when I made the order? I would've taken a day off of work to get this order and sign for it because this was a large amount in savings for me but no I get no communication from the company that I made an order and it shipped and no tracking number or signature required. The company provides amex some random tracking number and shipping information which doesn't even look like mine and Amex sided with them. I still have yet to receive any of my packages. I am confused and saddened by this and I reopened the dispute explaining that I was never given any information on this order and Amex once again ruled in the favor of the company. This is very unfortunate. I thought Amex was suppose to protect it's customers but I wasn't protected from a very shady company that did not ship my items to me and take my money. This is not the experience I want from Amex and I am very dissapointed and disheartened by this whole situation as a cardholder of 5 years.

Subissue: Account status incorrect

Consumer Complaint: I am filing this complaint due to unresolved inaccuracies in my credit report involving American Express, as reported to XXXX. These inaccuracies relate to the reporting of account statuses, balances, and other critical credit information that do not accurately reflect my credit history. Issue XXXX : I discovered these inaccuracies upon reviewing my credit report from XXXX on XX/XX/2023. Initial Action : A formal dispute letter was sent to American Express on XX/XX/2023, challenging the reported information. The letter specifically questioned the accuracy of account statuses, the balance owed, the date the account was opened, and the date of last reporting. Request for Proof : In the dispute letter, I requested American Express to provide factual proof of the alleged delinquencies, in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act ( FCRA ) and XXXX XXXX standards. Discrepancies Noted : The disputed issues include inconsistencies in the reported balance and account status for the periods of XX/XX/2023 and XX/XX/2023. Response from American Express : As of today, XX/XX/2023, American Express has not provided a satisfactory response or resolution to the issues raised. Impact of Inaccuracies : These inaccuracies are negatively impacting my credit score and financial opportunities, causing undue stress and potential financial loss. Resolution Attempts : Despite multiple attempts to rectify these inaccuracies directly with American Express and a 30-day window given for investigation and correction, the issue remains unresolved. I seek the CFPB 's assistance in ensuring accurate reporting of my credit information by American Express and the correction of any errors, in line with the FCRA requirements. The failure to resolve these inaccuracies has had significant negative consequences on my financial standing.

Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement

Subissue: Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement

Consumer Complaint: On or about the late XXXX early XXXX I noticed some unauthorized transactions on my credit card account. I paid the account unaware of the additional charges, then cancelled the payment. Ive been waiting 8 months for them this account. But they keep insisting I pay the account until the investigation is over. Yet every time they call, I ask for arbitration and my calls are dropped. As a result of their failure to properly address this account and refusal to allow me to seek resolve and thier continuation of breaching the agreement for unauthorized transaction. Theyre attempting to intimidate me to pay these charges and if I dont, theyre charging me interest on the account, reducing my usage across other non related accounts, reduced my credit usage, reduced my credit rating, threaten to close the account, refuse me access to other accounts with Amex, threatening to send the account to collectionsand refusing to allow me to make contact with arbitration.

Issue: Improper use of your report

Subissue: Reporting company used your report improperly

Consumer Complaint: I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding serious inaccuracies present in my AMEX credit report, which I attempted to rectify through your dispute resolution process. Unfortunately, the outcome has left me dissatisfied as the reported account was not adequately verified, and the inaccurate information persists. Background : I discovered discrepancies in my XXXX XXXX credit report, specifically related to payment status, payment history, date opened, and dates of late payments. In an effort to rectify these inaccuracies, I promptly submitted a dispute letter via mail, outlining the discrepancies and requesting a thorough investigation. Unsatisfactory Results : Regrettably, the results of the investigation were far from satisfactory. Despite my efforts, the accounts in question were not verified, and the inaccurate information continues to be reported. This has a significant impact on my creditworthiness and financial standing. Violation of FCRA : It has come to my attention that my rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act ( FCRA ), specifically outlined in 15 U.S.C. Section 602, have been violated. Section 602 emphasizes the importance of accuracy and fairness in credit reporting, mandating consumer reporting agencies to follow reasonable procedures to ensure maximum accuracy. Right to Privacy : Additionally, I would like to highlight my right to privacy, which is explicitly protected under 15 U.S.C Section 602. The inaccurate information being reported compromises not only my financial standing but also infringes upon my right to privacy, as it misrepresents my credit history. Failure to Obtain Written Instructions ( 15 U.S.C Section 604 A Section 2 ) : Furthermore, 15 U.S.C Section 604 A Section 2 stipulates that a consumer reporting agency can not furnish an account without the consumer 's written instructions. I have not provided such instructions, yet the inaccurate information persists on my credit report. Attached FTC Report : In support of my complaint, I have attached the FTC report with the report number XXXX. This report details the inaccuracies and the steps I have taken to address them, providing a comprehensive overview of the situation. Request for Remedial Action : I hereby request a thorough and immediate reevaluation of my dispute, ensuring that all relevant accounts are verified and the inaccurate information is rectified in accordance with the FCRA. Additionally, I urge AMEX to take corrective measures to prevent such violations in the future. Next Steps : If this matter is not resolved promptly and satisfactorily, I may be compelled to pursue legal action to safeguard my rights under the FCRA. I appreciate your prompt attention to this matter and expect a timely resolution. Please provide written confirmation of the actions taken to address this complaint within 30 days of receiving this letter.

Issue: Trouble using the card

Subissue: Trouble using the card to spend money in a store or online

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2023, I received an American Express prepaid card in the amount of {$50.00}. I immediately tried to use the card to make a purchase on XXXX, and the charge was declined by AmEx. I then tried to use it to order groceries through XXXX and it was also declined. I tried to use it to make a purchase on XXXX and it was declined a third time. When I looked at the account online, I saw that AmEx had allowed a XXXX pending charge for all three merchants to show that it was a legitimate card number, but then they declined the actual charge with no reason stated. In all three cases, my prepaid card was more than sufficient to cover the purchase I was trying to make. I contacted AmEx customer service to see if I was doing something wrong, and I was given the unhelpful response that AmEx " declines some purchases to prevent fraud. '' Well it seems to me that they are the ones committing fraud if they are selling these prepaid cards and not allowing them to be used anywhere! I asked where I could use the card and the customer service representative could not tell me a single store that would accept it, just that I needed to " keep trying different places. '' I thought that was a fairly ridiculous response so I XXXX and found that lots of other people have had the same issue and could never get their AmEx prepaid card to work online. I thought I might have better luck trying it in-store, so I added the card to my XXXX wallet and tried to pay for a small purchase using the app at checkout, and once again got the message that AmEx declined the charge. If I can't use this prepaid card online and I can't use it in a store, where exactly can I use it? I feel that American Express is committing fraud by taking money for these cards that can never be used anywhere.

Issue: Improper use of your report

Subissue: Reporting company used your report improperly

Consumer Complaint: I am writing to dispute the adverse action taken in my credit report and to request that you review the accounts through which I have extended credit. I believe there may be a misunderstanding about my rights and the laws governing credit transactions. As an original cardholder and holder in due course, I am exercising my right to initiate a consumer credit transaction with your company. In accordance with federal law, particularly 15 USC 1602, a credit card encompasses any device used to obtain credit, which I have been granted by your corporation. I am fully aware of my rights as a consumer, and credit is a right afforded to me by a creditor, as per 15 USC 1602 ( f ). Reporting to a consumer reporting agency is voluntary, as stipulated by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau ( CFPB ). I have not derived any benefit from the use of my credit. In fact, the denial of my right to extend credit has caused me both mental and financial distress. There are no federal laws that state a credit score can deny me my right to extend credit, yet the company appears to be overly concerned about my credit score. I would like to address the issue of discrimination against an applicant, as such a practice in a credit transaction is deemed unlawful under 15 USC 1691 ( a ). I kindly request that your company reevaluates this matter and ensures compliance with federal laws. It is imperative that you open the accounts through which I have extended credit and rectify the adverse action taken in my credit report. I take my consumer report and credit-related matters very seriously, and I sincerely hope that this matter can be resolved promptly and amicably. Failing to address this dispute properly may necessitate further legal action. I appreciate your immediate attention to this matter. I kindly request a timely response and a resolution to this issue.
