Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement
Subissue: Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2023 I attempted to purchase two window installations from XXXX XXXX XXXX as a result of a door to door solicitation. However, the Company fraudulently charged by American Express Card for a deposit of {$8300.00} for window installation throughout my house. Additionally, I never received any windows from the Company. .I promptly notified the Company and American Express that I never authorized these charges. Furthermore, my credit limit at the time of the transaction was only {$4700.00}. To date, Amercian Express has refused to credit my account or provide an explanation as to why they would arbitrarily increase my credit limit to {$8300.00} for this transaction without my personal request, knowledge, and consent. As a senior, I have never felt so violated and taken advantage of. To be clear, the Company has taken and refused to refund {$8300.00} for windows that I never received and American Express is refusing to credit my account. Adding insult to injury, my Amercian Express account is accumulating interest and late fees all to my loss and damage. Please so kindly assist in the resolution of this matter. I am seeking a full refund from XXXX XXXX XXXX to clear the fraudulent charges on my American Express card or a full credit of these charges by American Express and any further appropriate relief. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Issue: Trouble using the card
Subissue: Trouble using the card to spend money in a store or online
Consumer Complaint: Trying to use an American Express gift card is virtually impossible. XXXX, XXXX, XXXX, XXXX XXXX, no one accepts them. You have to wait and hope that a physical store might take it when you're out. And if they do, they place limits on it so you can absolutely never use the full amount the card is worth. This is a well established and recurring problem and yet no government agency has ever tackled the issue of how these cards are basically money traps. You buy them and can't get the money back out as intended. You contact the company and the only way to get a hold of a human is to say your card was stolen. They check and see the card has funds and they offer no assistance for you other than suggesting you " try another retailer, in person ''.

Consumer Complaint: I have tried to use my American Express gift card for {$500.00} at XXXX, XXXX, XXXX and more and the card does NOT go through anywhere. I have been trying to use it for the past two years and gotten nowhere. Its getting extremely frustrating and I feel like I will never be able to use the card anywhere ever. I have checked the balance and the full amount is still available, just completely inaccessible. I just want to be able to use the money!

Consumer Complaint: I received alert that my credit score on XXXX had dropped due to delinquent account status. I checked credit report and found fraudulent American Express card had been opened in my name. Account was opened XX/XX/XXXX. Charges of {$2000.00} occured in XX/XX/XXXX, and the account was closed on XX/XX/XXXX. Balance is listed as 60 days past due. Immediately placed a credit freeze and initiated a formal dispute ( file number XXXX ) with XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX. Sent a certified letter to American Express on XX/XX/XXXX advising them of the fraudulent account, and requesting its removal from my credit file. XXXX responded on XX/XX/XXXX indicating they had " verified the information as accurate with the company. American Express acknowledged receipt of my letter, but indicated they couldn't locate account. The account number listed on XXXX 's report is encoded due to privacy concerns. American Express says it needs full number to proceed, and XXXX will not provide it to me. So I'm stuck with no way to resolve the identity theft.

Consumer Complaint: I received a {$2000.00} AMEX gift card from my employer I activated it per the instructions and saw that I has the correct balance. I tried to order some car parts from a US based company called XXXX XXXX which I have used in the past with my normal debit card. I went to check out and gift card was declined. I tried two more times ... they were declined too. When I went back to check card balance I saw 3 {$0.00} transactions being held by XXXX XXXX I contacted XXXX XXXX and they said because the order did not go through it must be the card holding the XXXX cents. I called the AMEX Gift card number and was helped by an ( obviously ) overseas agent who said it was a formality and the funds would be returned on XXXX XXXX. I tried a different parts company online and the same thing happened. Card was declined. I fell AMEX is being deceptive in their advertising and the card is essentially worthless if it can not be used online.

Consumer Complaint: I received two separate emails congratulating me on my new account with American Express ending in XXXX. While I have an American Express card, I have not applied for a new one. Additionally, my credit is supposed to be frozen for inquiries, so I'm not sure how they could have processed this. The very strange part with all of this, is I got the email to both my work email and another email that I use for a company that my husband and I own. Two very separate entities.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, I was in the XXXX airport, and the American Express ( Amex ) representative offered me an Amex card. If I accepted the card by paying XXXX {$250.00}, I would receive XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX as long as I spent XXXX {$3000.00} in less than XXXX months. I told the representative I had an Amex card until XX/XX/XXXX. He told me I would be OK because it had been over XXXX years since I had the old card. I went with the promotion and was given the Amex card number XXXX, valid until XX/XX/XXXX. I spent XXXX {$6100.00} until XXXX and paid the annual fee in my first payment. When I contacted the representative today, XX/XX/XXXX, in the call center, she told me Amex would not give the miles and would refund my annual fee because I had a card before. The attendant provided me with the ticket number of my call as XXXX. Unfortunately, it seems the representative lied in the airport, or Amex needs to act more honestly. I decided to sign the Amex card again because of the offer, and they are not honoring their terms. I would appreciate your help as Amex can solve this matter they created. Thank you, XXXX

Consumer Complaint: I received a {$150.00} Amex e-gift card on XX/XX/2023. According to Amex, the card is accepted at ALL online retailers who accept Amex as long as the expiration date and security code is provided. I have tried using my gift card online at XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. All transactions were declined due to security issues although when I check the balance on the card it is {$150.00}. The purchases I tried to make were well under {$150.00}. I called Amex several times and was told misleading information, ie. that I should upload the gift card to my XXXX XXXX XXXX and i could make purchases from there ( did not work ) ; that i could use the card to pay off my regular Amex account balance ( not true ) ; that I should try to make a purchase at another retailer ( I've tried MANY MANY retailers and spent hours online shopping only to have the purchases declined over and over! ). Furthermore, I see that many many other customers have the same complaint, that the Amex cards are useless. I am now stuck with a {$150.00} virtual card that is worthless, and Amex has run off with the money! I even tried using the gift card in the online app for my building 's laundromat! Even THAT got declined!!!!!! Amex gift card representatives are no help, they read off a script and consistently say " try it at another retailer. '' How many retailers am I supposed to try??????

Subissue: Account information incorrect
Consumer Complaint: My American Express card went to collections due to a divorce. It was charged off in XXXX of XXXX. On my credit report, American Express is reporting that it was charged off in XXXX of XXXX. This date is incorrect. XXXX of XXXX is when the account was paid off in a settlement, not charged off. I have called them multiple times, tried chatting with them online, spoke to multiple departments and filed a dispute through XXXX. They are not updating to the correct information. In addition, after my dispute they also added a charge off for the month of XXXX of XXXX on my credit report when the account previously had " no data ''. To be clear, the charge off occurred in XXXX of XXXX. The account was paid in a settlement in XXXX of XXXX. American Express will not provide me a letter confirming the date that my charge off was in XXXX of XXXX. When I talk to them every single person I spoke with confirmed the charge off date was XXXX of XXXX but it is still reported as XX/XX/XXXX on my credit report. I have said it backwards and forwards to their people but they don't listen, talk over me and are not fixing it.
