Issue: Unauthorized transactions or other transaction problem
Subissue:
Consumer Complaint: My problem is simple : on XX/XX/XXXX an unauthorized transfer of {$200.00} was made from Venmo to go to my daughter XXXX which she never received. I only know this because the transaction showed up on my XXXX XXXX account as a transaction from Venmo. My daughter doesn't even keep the Venmo app active on her phone unless she is expecting to make or receive a transaction. Instead of Venmo correcting the error and returning the funds to my account I talked to a Venmo rep who said she needed my daughter to call to say the transfer was not received and was not requested by her. She did so. Then we called together to explain and were told the money would be replaced on XX/XX/XXXX. We called Venmo again and were told the money went to her XXXX XXXX account. It did not ; she transferred the money back to me via Venmo at XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX. She had to download the Venmo app to do so, which she did.The {$200.00} has not been returned, we've talked to several representatives none of whom seem to be able to correct this error or even explain how it happened. And we get a different story every time. First I was told this unauthorized transaction may have happened accidently if my phone was unlocked in my purse similar to XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX someone. Then a rep told me I tried twice on XX/XX/XXXX to send the {$200.00}. I never authorized any payment to my daughter and we have spoken to Venmo separately and together to get this resolved. I mentioned this mysteriously happened once before in XXXX. I simply got in touch with Venmo, they reversed the transaction, charged me a transaction fee and that was resolved. I disputed the fee and that has never been resolved. Now, I had to get " permission '' from my daughter for the money to be returned, she had to verify who she was before they could accept her " permission, '' and on and on. Plus, Venmo has NO NOTES on all of these calls so we have to start from the beginning each time we call or I write to the company. There is no trail of information about unauthorized payment. When I asked, what if the recipient had not been my daughter but a stranger, would I have had to get the stranger 's permission for Venmo to correct the error? I get no response to that question. The final email I received said my case was denied because the {$200.00} transaction was not unauthorized! I need my {$200.00} put back in my account. It is causing me to have to monitor my account daily to keep from being overdrawn, which is now likely to occur before the month 's end.

Consumer Complaint: I was acquiring a service from a vendor that required payment on Paypal. On XX/XX/XXXX, the vendor asked for a 50 % deposit corresponding to {$75.00}. After I made the payment, the vendor indicated that the money was on hold by Paypal and issued a refund to me. And demanded the {$150.00} full payment. I paid the {$150.00}, and the {$75.00} was never refused. Paypal doe not offer a dispute process, and when I reposted a problem, they closed my case, indicating the transaction was exemplary. The amount on the statement reflects as XXXX ( XXXX fees ).

Consumer Complaint: On XXXX XXXX put {$400.00} into my PayPal account XXXX XXXX XXXX. On 3/23/22, I initiated a transfer from my PayPal account transferring the money to the XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX The money was successfully sent to my account. On XX/XX/22, PayPal initiated a reversal and took the {$400.00} back out of my account. PayPal acknowledged the reversal was done because they had my bank account ending in XXXX. They determined that was not a valid account and reversed the money. The money however was actually placed in the correct bank account with XXXX ending in XXXX. It was also reversed and withdrawn from the correct account XXXX. In speaking with the bank, the transaction from PayPal did route to account ending in XXXX, however the bank has an account matching feature an they matched it to the correct account which ended in XXXX, which placed the money in the correct account for me. I have made multiple attempts over the last 30 days to get PayPal to return the {$400.00} they took out of my account on XX/XX/22. I have not been able to make any progress as PayPal denies they have the money and says it is with the bank. I was asked by PayPal to contact my bank and obtain a transaction number to prove they took the money. I did get the transaction number, XXXX, however now PayPal refuses to use this to trace the transaction and continues to deny taking the money. I have tried to escalate this to no avail. I am asking for assistance in the return of my {$400.00} which PayPal withdrew from my account without authorization and refuses to acknowledge or return.

Consumer Complaint: The Company Paypal Inc, Allowed a fraud chargeback into my business account with them a customer doing a false claim with XXXX credit card company that my job was not completed. We provided all necessary information to Paypal to explain to them that we completed the job and this customer is doing chargeback fraud to my business. Paypal mentioned to me that on the XXXX of XXXX XXXX has no answer yet they will pay me back the money and close the case because I'm covered with merchant coverage protection we have them recorded 2 times after a 3rd call we recorded another of their employees saying that the other 2 employees they lie to me and my money will be not paid back with a rude attitude. If the promise was fraud protection to my business on the XXXX why did they not give my money back and stop talking the wrong way?

Consumer Complaint: On XXXX XXXX I received a Venmo credit to open an account and was told I would be able to make purchases and receive payments from employers, direct deposits and receive money from family and friends. From XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX I was able to do all of this. On XXXX XXXX I received a payment through XXXX from my employer. I received an email saying my account was frozen and identity needed to be verified. I immediately uploaded my drivers license to the link provided. I called customer service support and was advised that they had not received the identity verification requested and I would have to wait until Monday to speak w/ acct. services. I called on Monday because my utilities were to be disconnected, if payment was not received by the end of the day. I was told it would be 5-10 days to process. I explained my situation about my bills, and was advised my matter would be escalated for processing, this did not happen. On XX/XX/2022 I received an email from acct. services from agent " XXXX '' saying my funds were being held by loss prevention. The funds could be held up to 180 days, yet no reason for this action was ever given. I have continuously made contact via email and phone, to no avail nor solution. I still have yet to get a response as to what caused Venmo to take this action. This has caused great complications in my life and finances, unable to make bill payments on time. I feel outraged and disgusted and honestly believe I have been scammed by Venmo.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I completed work for a client. They asked to billed through Paypal. I have not used Paypal billing in the past. I am a XXXX XXXX out of Texas. I invoiced the client and they paid the same day. The total was two transactions for {$220.00} each. After Paypal fees the total due to me was {$430.00}. Then Paypal did something that has to be stopped, because it is a crime. They placed my funds ALL on hold. Then created a process essentially where I had to beg them permission to receive my funds. After begging they then preceded to tell me : congratulations you will receive your funds on XX/XX/2022. This is after I broke down and actually begged them to please allow me to have my money. There is something broken about our system. The CFPB was created to protect us from crimes like this. Paypal is illegally holding people 's money, and I guarantee you they are collecting interest on these grouped funds. Who does Paypal think they are? Why do they feel they can just do something like this? My client 's funds cleared on XX/XX/2022. Paypal will give me my money on XX/XX/2022. If I would not have begged Paypal for special processing they would have held it indefinitely. This is sickening, wrong, and it is illegal. How many people are they doing this to?
