Issue: Struggling to repay your loan
Subissue: Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan
Consumer Complaint: Navient ( formerly Sallie Mae ) talked me into forbearance multiple times when I was struggling financially reather than helping me find a repayment option that would help my situation. When I could no longer forbear they talked me into interest only payments. They never mentioned that my loan balance would acty increase due to that. My payments on interest only are now {$700.00}. On one loan where my payment is {$380.00}, only {$25.00} goes to principal. They won't offer me anything else other than interest only payments and meanwhile my balance keeps increasing. I don't qualify for any external consolidation as I have applied multiple places. At this rate I will never pay off my loan and Navient is making a XXXX off of me. They persuade customers to take out loans they cant afford them refuse to work with them to pay it back. They know customers are trapped and take advantage of it.

Issue: Written notification about debt
Subissue: Didn't receive notice of right to dispute
Consumer Complaint: I received notice from the Bureau of Fiscal Service, US Department of Treasury that they were attempting to collect a debt on behalf of another federal agency without first being notified by the original agency. In addition, the Treasury initiated credit bureau reporting at the same time they sent notification of collection.

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan
Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments
Consumer Complaint: I was originally steered to a private student loan instead of applying for a federal student loan. There was no reason that I should of been forced to apply for this personal loan when I was 100 % eligible for a federal loan. This was very shady of both the school and navient. Per the multi state lawsuit, this was found to be illegal as the schools were motives by the financial kickbacks of then XXXX XXXX. I have now been stuck paying on this since 2007. 16 years and the loan has not decreased in balance. I am being penalized because I was current on the loans, where others have had thier loans discharge under the multistate lawsuit. Now that the interest rates are increasing, so too is the rate on the loan. Due to predatory leaning practices, I will be paying a large sum of money forever. Navient has more than made up for the loan over the last 16 years that i have made payments. Since this was for a loan for a school that has closed, no one will refinance it. I am stuck in this loan and due to predatory lending practices, paying on this loan forever.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer
Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled
Consumer Complaint: It has come to my attention that Navient has not been counting my payments for years. I have made small payments and my balances have remained the exact same. No change at all. I have been writing them for months and they refuse to acknowledge these payments. Even recent payments I have made. They are punishing me for forbearance which was administrative due to them being sued. So it is their fault that payments were stopped but they were still charging interest and not counting payments. I need help. They refuse to apply these payments and lower my total balances. I am sending the proof. At the bottom of each loan you can see several payments made. They tried to say that my payments went to interest but at the same time told me my balances were to sum total of my interest and principal. So they are lying.
