Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer
Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled
Consumer Complaint: I am being harassed by Navient and they are asking me to make payments of {$1000.00} a month beginning XX/XX/XXXX. On XXXX I was approved for having my loans discharged through my borrower defense application, I informed them of this on XX/XX/XXXX and they refused to accept it. I also already applied for and was approved for my Income Based Repayment Plan which was accepted by my other loan provider and is already in effect until XX/XX/XXXX. I also should have my loans on hold through all my services as part of my Borrower Defense Application. I informed Navient of all of this and they said I had to contact the Department of Education. I did this on XX/XX/XXXX and was informed by the Department of Education that all of this information was already sent to Navient. I have been the victim of fraud by Navient in the past because they refused to allow to sign up for the Income Based Repayment programs when they first became available. I have defaulted on these loans in the past when I was facing financial hardship because Navient refused me access to the programs that were available and now they are doing it again. I am currently unemployed and have no way to pay {$1000.00} per month on loans that are supposed to be discharged. I also thought all loans were supposed to be paused until end of XX/XX/XXXX because of XXXX. Please help me. Navient has done this to me for over a decade and have denied me access to the income driven repayment plans. I was not able to sign up for the program and did not enroll in them until about XXXX. Prior to that Navient forced me into putting my loans into Forbearance and defaulting on them. My loans have almost doubled since I graduated. I am paying twice as much for my college education because of the interest and late fees Navient has added over many years. I am in debt for almost {$150000.00}, which is almost double what my loans were when I graduated.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer
Subissue: Don't agree with the fees charged
Consumer Complaint: I have a private student loan that I obtained in XX/XX/2004 for the amount of {$12000.00} thru Navient. At the time I requested the loan I had a little over a year of XXXX XXXX service in the XXXX. I was enrolling in XXXX XXXX university at the time. This loan was first experience for me and my husband applying for one, the school fees were not completely covered by the military tuition assistance so the school more than suggested pressure me to obtain a loan, of course I did not know anything about loans, also I was newly arrived to the US and English not been my first language make it harder for me to understand the paperwork but I was so eager to start school that we sign the paperwork. The Loan has an interest rate variable at this time of 17.875 % and I still own over {$10000.00} but I have already paid {$38000.00} throughout the years. Because it was private and not federal there are not many options. I contact them in the past and they offer me the defer payments that the only thing it did was to increase the amount I own. I just contact Navient again and they requested my orders to be reviewed for a possible rate reduction. In the past I have done this but it did not work. I'm very frustrated how things turn out, completely my fault, but the school and loan officer were placing a lot of pressure for us to hurry up and sign. I have about three years left of XXXX XXXX and I still can not repaid this loan. I will send my orders to them today but any help or suggestions from the CFPB will be appreciate it. Thank you so much.

Issue: Communication tactics
Subissue: You told them to stop contacting you, but they keep trying
Consumer Complaint: I have asked them, repeatedly to stop calling, and to communicate to me in writing- via mail. They continue to call at least twice a day, and these calls/voice messages include threats regarding contacting my employer. While that is within their rights, the way they do it is in an attempt to scare, rather than to inform. I responded to an email with a pdf of a letter telling them to stop calling, and with instructions on how they can contact me. I also mailed that letter to them directly. They are still calling repeatedly. I have also been yelled at repeatedly, and asked inappropriate questions by several of their agents when I have asked them to stop calling. I have asked that they contact me via certified US mail only. I paid Navient more than $ XXXX of the $ XXXX that I borrowed. I somehow owe them more than $ XXXX. More than I borrowed over a decade ago. I have made a good faith effort to pay the loans, but refuse to pay more than double. I will pay up to XXXX to resolve the account. They can communicate with me via certified US mail only, or they can submit my account to collections or sue me, or we can settle. However they choose to proceed, they can let me know via mail.

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan
Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments
Consumer Complaint: These loans were taken out in XXXX. The school that they were awarded to was XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX The degree received is not accredited and can not be used to get an advanced degree. There are 3 loans : Loan 1 was disbursed for {$29000.00} in XXXX. We have paid {$34000.00} towards this loan ( minus late fees and other charges ) ; the current balance is {$25000.00}. We are currently paying {$240.00} towards the loan with {$22.00} towards principal and {$220.00} towards interest. Loan 2 was disbursed for {$28000.00} in XXXX. We have paid {$31000.00} towards this loan ( minus late fees and other charges ) ; the current balance is {$24000.00}. We are currently paying {$230.00} towards the loan with {$20.00} towards principal and {$210.00} towards interest. Loan 3 was disbursed for {$11000.00} in XXXX We have paid {$8600.00} towards this loan ( minus late fees and other charges ) ; the current balance is {$7100.00}. We are currently paying {$51.00} towards the loan {$13.00} towards the principal and {$38.00} toward interest. We still have over 200 payments to make on all 3 loans. That would total over {$110000.00} in interest payments over the next 17 years. This predatory lending and variable interest are stifling our ability to survive. We have no recourse in this matter because it's all " legal '' but I think it's absurd to pay double what was borrowed in interest.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer
Subissue: Keep getting calls about your loan
Consumer Complaint: The previous page on this form would only allow me to add one issue. Therefore, I am adding it to this section. I have two problems : privacy law, debt balance, and payment. First issue : On XX/XX/2023, Navient contacted my husband, children, and job regarding the student loan debt. The Navient representative left a detailed voice message regarding my student loan to those I mentioned in the previous sentence. According to the privacy law, Navient violated my rights by telling others who have no financial obligation about my debt. This is not the first time Navient has contacted others regarding my student loan debt. My job does not allow personal calls and emails. I told them previously on the phone not to contact those persons and recently sent an email for them not to contact others regarding this debt. I do have those voicemails and the email Navient sent. Another issue regarding this student loan debt, Navient has increased the total amount that they say I owe. I have been paying on this debt for years, and there has been no decrease in the balance. I do not get a bill stating how much I pay monthly and whether the total amount decreases. Every time I sign up at the end of the six months to get a low monthly payment, the amount increases by at least {$50.00} or more. I need assistance finding out why my payments continue to rise, and I will never finish paying off this debt. Navient says they are here to help, but I need to see how they are helping me. There is no way the total {$26000.00} increased to {$71000.00}. I have talked with Navient representatives numerous times regarding this debt 's payment amount and balance. This is never ending debt that I will never pay off. Navient is increasing payments, getting more money from me, and putting in more debt. It will never stop with them. I feel like they do not care that they put people like me in debt and struggle to pay them. This needs to stop.
