Issue: Struggling to repay your loan

Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments

Consumer Complaint: XX/XX/XXXX Im writing to file a complaint against Navient Student Loan servicer. I graduated in XX/XX/XXXX. I have paid my loans for over 20 years at {$500.00} a month. No easy payment for my family. Oh and when times were tough and I called them, they steered me toward forbearance .Which I think I did for a year. They never once told me that had I been in a different monthly plan, such as income driven, my loans would be paid off in 20 years ( XXXX ) 25 years ( XXXX ). Im on social security now and am retired. These loans have been paid many times over the original amount. Im asking for help to have my loans forgiven/ ended as they would have been had it not been for Navients deviant practices. Anything you can do to help me or steer me in a direction where I may get assistance with this matter, would be deeply and greatly appreciated. Kind Regards, XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan

Subissue: Can't temporarily delay making payments

Consumer Complaint: My wife and I currently qualify to have our joint consolidation loan separated under a literal act of congress passed last year and we qualify for public service loan forgiveness ( PSLF ) as of several years ago. Our loans, under the law, should already be separated and forgiven. ( I fully understand that Department of Education ( DoE ) plans to have a fix by late next year which is not nearly soon enough. ) I had contacted my servicer ( Navient ) and they initially gave us three 2-month administrative forbearances while waiting for DoE to follow the law and separate or loans. Meanwhile DoE has provided some information indicating that we should contact the DoE Ombudsmen to let them know that we qualify and discuss a forbearance. See attached email and paragraph 7 of the web page at https : //studentaid.gov/XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. I contacted the DoE Ombudsmen office previously and received a boilerplate reply that failed to address administrative forbearance while we wait for DoE to follow the law. I contacted Navient again recently to extend my forbearance and they indicated that they would not be providing administrative forbearance for people in our situation ( people like me who qualify for loan separation, etc. ). I am beyond frustrated that we worked so hard to get legislation passed and now Navient is ignoring the guidance from DoE regarding forbearance eligibility. I need help communicating the guidance at the above link to Navient and providing a path forward to a forbearance.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled

Consumer Complaint: XXXX Navient private loan is asking for the same amount every month on my private loan which should be substantially less asking for. It should emulate less then the original since I paid a majority of it off. They are asking {$55.00} with no reduction in asking price. I have over 50 accounts and me putting this loan at top is rediculous and its not handled properly. Also, I gave this company checks that it has cashed but not put towards the balance. This is fraud since you are taking money that is not yours and asking for even more money. I have already pulled the checks so I know 100 % I am correct. You printed wrong number on checks as well. You reported me to credit reporting and my legal team is currently reviewing data since this is absurd. Furthermore, the rep told me second to last I owed XXXX and now they said its XXXX $ I paid XXXX XX/XX/23. We should less then a XXXX. My bank even seen checks cashed that amount isnt put toward balance.

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan

Subissue: Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan

Consumer Complaint: Good Afternoon, My name is XXXX XXXX and Im currently an XXXX on XXXX XXXX in the United States Marine Corps. Im a helicopter pilot based out of XXXX XXXX and have been in for 6 years. Recently, my intelligence shop has notified me that my student loans have been flagged in their system, and because of that, I may lose my security clearance, and potentially my job. Unfortunately, my current student debt is up to {$180000.00}, and even worse its a private loan from Sallie Mae and Navient. When I first signed for the loans, my dad and I agreed that we would split the debt and pay it off individually, but just over a year ago, he passed away unexpectedly from XXXX XXXX. Because Im the co-signer, I have taken the entirety of the loan. My mom has stopped paying the other half, and weve recently discovered that dad did not leave anything behind for my family and I to help cover this debt. I currently live on base with my wife and son, living on one income to support us as she also attends school. Ive contacted Sallie Mae and Navient about the situation. I was paying about {$800.00} a month after I joined the military, but since the passing of my dad and now supporting a family, I can not make that kind of payment. Ive offered to pay an amount within our budget, XXXX a month, but they have both denied that offer. XXXXm reaching out in hopes that there may be something youd be able to do to help my family and I in this situation. Anything would be greatly appreciated. Very Respectfully, XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX

Consumer Complaint: The company is harassing me and my family. We have tried to work with them and they will not give us any grace. Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled

Consumer Complaint: I paid off my loan before the autopayment, but they over drafted my account anyway. When I called to ask for my money back, they refused to give it to me for 20 days. When I complained and explained how unreasonable it was for them to hold {$1000.00} when I have other bills to pay is not acceptable. They still refused and lowered it to 10 days. Since then I have had multiple overdraft fees for other payments that couldn't be stopped. I can't get {$1000.00} into my account that quickly. They did not have an explanation for holding the money. Since I work during their business hours, it has been hard to step away to call them persistently. I find their practices unethical.

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I repaid Navient {$93000.00} in a lump sum to pay off my private loans. To make this payment, I used money I received from a medical malpractice settlement that has permanently changed my way of life. Given the settlement with Navient in XXXX, I feel I am entitled to receive all of that money back as restitution for predatory lending practices. Those 4 loans had variable interest rates from 6.75-16 % and accounted for the majority of my student loan debt which is why I repaid them first. The Navient AG settlement gave full relief to anyone that had subprime private loans taken out before XXXX. My loans were taken out from XXXX. Not only did I attend a for-profit school that misguided me to take out these subprime private loans, but my college closed four years later, and my degree is essentially useless. In hindsight, had I known about the Navient settlement, I would not have repaid these loans in XXXX. I did what I thought was right at the time and am now suffering for it financially.
