Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled
Consumer Complaint: My employer provides a benefit which pay $ XXXX/month towards student loan debt for 5 years ( a total of {$10000.00} over the 5 years ). This {$100.00} is sent electronically to my account every month, but not always on the same day. I have contact Navient multiple times asking how I can direct this payment to be allocated to the principal on my loans ONLY, and have gotten different answers each time. Prior to receiving the benefit, I was told it was possible to direct this over payment to go straight to the principal on my loans, but after starting to receive the benefit I have been told this is not possible. So far, I have been making an extra {$100.00} payment to my account since XX/XX/2019, and all of it has been applied straight to interest. Navient has been incredibly unhelpful in helping me address this situation, and meanwhile I am wasting money on making payments on interest instead of towards lowering my overall principle.

Consumer Complaint: Navient refused to permanently remove late payments shown for three XXXX XXXX loans that I took out in XX/XX/XXXX for each of my XXXX sons. The first basis for my request for removal of one loan showing in collections and all showing several months late -- severely damaging my credit -- was that I have several private student loans being serviced by Navient. I am currently a XXXX XXXX. When Navient advised that my " private loans '' were in repayment, and I began a payment plan, I reasonably understood that ALL student loans that were supposedly due were included in the repayment plan. Secondly, Navient insists that the loans were not for my children despite that my children 's names are on the loan documents as the benefactors of the loans. Third, I argued that the negative entries had to be removed, as a matter of federal law, because I was never notified that the XXXX XXXX loans were in arrears. Finally, I filed Bankruptcy in XX/XX/XXXX in the XXXX District of Oklahoma. Many Circuits, including the XXXX Circuit wherein the XXXX District of Oklahoma sits, recognize that XXXX XXXX loans are commercial loans and not student loans that are exempted from Chapter XXXX bankruptcy. My last conversation with Navient evinced their attempt to conceal that they were collecting on the XXXX XXXX loan because the agent referred to the loans by either loan number or another acronym -- never calling the loans XXXX XXXX loans. My dispute with the credit bureau resulted in Navient removing from my credit report the XXXX XXXX loan that is supposedly 18 months or more in arrears and in collections. Within a month of that retraction, Navient and the credit bureaus added the loan that was in collection back on my report -- -reflecting me being {$7000.00} past due. My primary issue is with Navient. However, that the credit bureaus allow me ( and others ) to initiate a dispute only to resolve said dispute by taking the furnishers ' " verification '' at face value without providing me a copy of the certification furnished denies my right to due process and to further challenge the issue. I would like for the CFPB to ( 1 ) intervene in the investigation into this particularly nuanced case regarding XXXX XXXX Loans i.e. loans taken for a third party and ( 2 ) initiate an action aimed at requiring credit bureaus to make their dispute process transparent and provide the person making the dispute with a copy of the documents upon which the Bureau relied to confirm or modify the information furnished BEFORE such action is taken

Consumer Complaint: I have contacted Navient, and previously XXXX ( I think ), several times concerning loan forgiveness as a XXXX in a low income, high needs XXXX for over 5 years of service. I was told several three or four times I would be forgiven XXXX dollars for sending in the paperwork over the phone. After the initial application, I received a denial letter for XXXX for the XXXX instead of the XXXX XXXX portion. When I called, they intimated my loan does not qualify for the XXXX. I inquired about he XXXX and they said it did not qualify for that either. After completing research again and looking into my Spousal consolidation, I called back to find out what I could do and why it didn't qualify for forgiveness. I was then told it did qualify and I needed to resend the paperwork in and it would remove me from the loan and leave only my Ex-Wife 's portion. After re-obtaining the paperwork, I called to find out where to send it, as I was super excited to be done with my half after getting " the run-around '', I was told my loans didn't qualify. I then asked how to get a copy of the transcripts from the call for evidence of what I was told in the conversation, which was not honored. I wrote an inquiry letter to the transcripts department and received a response stating I would have to subpoena the information in order to receive a copy of the transcripts ( XX/XX/2018 ).

Consumer Complaint: I graduated college in XX/XX/XXXX, in XX/XX/XXXX I had started paying off my student loans at a loan by loan process. My goal was to pay off my higher interest loans immediately with cash I had saved prior to, in hope that I could drive my aggregate interest rate down, when I decided to make an attempt at consolidating the loans. Around XXXX, after doing exactly what I planned and paying off the higher interested rate loans, I started inquiring about consolidation options. At the time, the highest interest rate loan i had was approximately 4 %. By XX/XX/XXXX, after reviewing my account to attempt to pay on my loans, I had noticed, without any signature or confirmation from me that Navient consolidated and disbursed at a 5.125 % interest rate. The worst part about all of this is that they had reimbursed me for ( 2 ) loans I had paid in full ( 1 @ $ XXXX/6 % Interest ; 2 @ $ XXXX/5 % interest ) without my authorization. The other explanation that was not provided to me, was that the consolidated subsidized/unsubsidized student loans had an interest rate that accrued daily, essentially giving Navient a 100 % return on the note over the 20 year term. I would have never signed off consent for a loan structured in this fashion, and would never agreed to such an inflated loan. I have paid roughly {$11000.00} to Navient over the past 4-1/2 years, of that roughly {$3000.00} or more has been paying on interest, that is not 5.125 %. Navient wasn't even the original note holder on my loan, some how without me knowing, Sallie Mae was no longer in the picture and Navient took me to the cleaners.

Consumer Complaint: To whom it may concern, I attended XXXX college from XXXX-XXXX and I was under the impression that 4 of my school loans would not accumulate any interest which was not true. I was approved for 5 loans in total while in college due to hardship, but each one those loans has accumulated a high interest rate. In fact, one of the loans that I was approved for back in college was {$2500.00}, but now Im having to pay ( Navient ) {$2000.00} in interest which is insane. Im a part/time worker as of right now and I remember explaining this situation to ( Navient ) on last year, and they didnt seem to care about it. How can I be charged so much in interest, and I barely gross {$10000.00} yearly. In my opinion, something should be done about this problem because I live on a fix income and Ill never be able to pay off this debit anytime soon if ( Navient ) cant find away to help me. I also signed up for their Income Driven Plan back in XXXX but the interest is steady rising each day seem like it. Can someone help me? Is there anything I can do to have the interest lower? I really need help with situation right now! Thanks!!

Consumer Complaint: When I restarted school this semester, I submitted an in school deferment. I started receiving emails after the loan was 30 days late. I again submitted a deferment as instructed by their form. My loan is currently showing as over 60 days late as my deferment has not been processed still. I have a history of being unable to reach anyone at Navient because of excessive hold times when placing calls.

Consumer Complaint: Every time I spoke to someone, the seemed to be reading from a script, didnt speak very clear English and I would always request for a lower payment. They never wanted to help except to for forbearance. I offered to to set up payments at {$200.00} a month. Something I can afford and they would not accept that. They never listened to anything in regards to my hardship or illness or my effort to to pay at least a portion. I was asked to fill out documents for several programs but nothing ever came of it. Not for educators, income based, nothing. So what was $ 40K in loans has grown interests into $ 100k. I was a teacher for most of my adult life, income was low but not enough to be considered Low-income. Over the years, kids, illness, divorce and no alimony or child support. But none of that is considered. Now I am 20 days from defaulting and am being told they will garnish my wages.

Consumer Complaint: XX/XX/2019 was contacted by Navient because my loans were out of wack. I have 3 loans, the lady continually said all 3 loans are covered and for XXXX a month we will take out two separate charges and all 3 loans will be in good standing ... Fast forward 6 months and they say 1 loan has not be attended too and Im 3-4 months behind.. I asked about what I was previously told and was acted like I was a lair.. Finally a supervisor said she would review the call and get back to me a week later ... .no one ever called me back so I called and it was the same XXXX ... They reported to me credit and are claiming my loan will be in default when I have been lied too the entire time. They have constantly messed up my loans, changed the rates on them, and generally rude and abusive with their tactics ... its truly unfair and not right!
