Issue: Struggling to repay your loan
Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments
Consumer Complaint: Dear Staff, I contacted Navient Student Loan Servicer on XX/XX/XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX, to discuss the continuing my loan payments under the 6-Month Rate Reduction Program or re-enrolling in the Term and Rate Reduction program but was told the only program I qualified for was the 6-Month Rate Reduction Program where I had to agree to a brand new 30-year payment program every six months. I was told the reason for not qualifying for the Term and Rate Reduction program was because I called at the wrong time. Each time I called and under duress reluctantly agreed to the terms my rate increased. Today, XX/XX/XXXX, I called to discuss the continuing my loan payments under the 6-Month Rate Reduction Program or re-enrolling in the Term and Rate Reduction Program but was told the only program I qualified for was the 6-Month Rate Reduction Program where I had to agree to a brand new 30-year payment program every six months. This time I asked why am I not eligible this time for the Term and Rate Reduction Program and was told Navient is not offering the Term and Rate Reduction program because " We just aren't offering to you, and I don't see where you were ever offered that program. '' I explained to the gentleman that I am retired and can not afford my rate to increase and he shared that he was very sorry but there isn't anything else that Navient can do. I asked about refinancing through their sister company NaviFi or Settling the debt and locking into an affordable payment plan since the interest accrued is double the original loan amount and with an interest rate of over 14.0 % : Loan XXXX : Original Principal {$4700.00} Current Balance {$12000.00} Interest Rate14.625 % Interest Type : Variable Loan XXXX Original Principal {$7400.00} Current Balance {$18000.00} Interest Rate14.625 % Interest Type : Variable Loan XXXX Original Principal {$3400.00} Current Balance {$7800.00} Interest Rate 14.625 % Interest Type : Variable I am retired and I am recovering from Bankruptcy and I just need a payment that isn't going to cause me to lose my housing. I have been looking for refinancing and consolidation but I am not having any luck, yet. My only recourse is to agree to another 6 months, another 30 years, and return to Bankruptcy Court to declare undue hardship. I am only asking for Navient 's assistance to continue paying ; if I had understood that private loans were this much trouble, I would have never signed up. Please help me. Sincerely, XXXX

Consumer Complaint: I enrolled at XXXX XXXX XXXX in XXXX, VA in XX/XX/2009. I was recently widowed and had a young child to take care of. I spent 5 hours at the campus getting all of the information I needed to make an informed decision. I was promised by the recruiter and the Department Chair of the XXXX XXXX program that the school was accredited, and I found out after graduation that it wasn't. There was a fake accreditation certificate hanging on the wall at the front reception desk. I was promised job placement assistance. I did not ever receive any. I was lied to about the cost of the program. I was told that because of my age, XXXX at the time, and being a widow, that I qualified for scholarships and grants that would pay for almost 100 % of my costs, and the financial aid department was taking care of everything. They never applied for any assistance for me. These are just a few examples of the fraud they committed when enrolling me. My " degree '' is worthless. The school was closed for fraud and I do not feel that I should be held responsible for the debt. I was lied to for four years and now I owe a massive debt that is ruining my life. I feel that the school needs to prove that I benefited from attending, and they fulfilled all of their promises and or the debt should be forgiven. No other company or business is allowed to collect on a debt that was entered into based on fraud.

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan
Subissue: Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan
Consumer Complaint: I became XXXX after receiving my students loans. I applied for forgiveness based on XXXX, I was denied when I should have been approved back in XXXX. I got them all of the documents they requested and even though I fell within what they told me, they denied me. So I applied for a XXXX repayment consolidation loan after being denied the XXXX forgiveness. During the process of the XXXX consolidation loan through Navient, one of my loans was missed. I kept putting it into deferment/forbearance until I could get the situation resolved. So it went into default when it should have been included. I called Navient to explain that I needed the XXXX repayment consolidation loan redone with my loan that was missed when I noticed the error in XXXX. The person I spoke with on the phone was rude and not helpful. She blamed me for not notifying them within 30 days of the error. No help whatsoever so I put my loans into deferment/forebearance until the error could be corrected. No one has been helpful at Navient or XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX about this issues. So now my loans are in default with the Department of Ed, and Department of Treasury. I found your sight and the lawsuit against Navient and believe I fall into this category. Department of Treasure now wants me to go into a loan rehabilitation programs. The problem with this is, my timeline for forgiveness in the XXXX repayment has disappeared and my interest has accumulated since XXXX when it was an error on this part. I believe I would be a fabulous candidate to be included in the lawsuit that is currently pending. I need this to be fixed ASAP. I have been lied to and mislead by these people. Navient, XXXX, and XXXX XXXX. Had they of dealt with it in XXXX and XXXX we would not be in this position now. I'm tired of getting the runaround no matter what I do. Once person says one thing, and another says something completely different. Which is exactly why the lawsuit has been filed. I really think I should be covered by that lawsuit but I am trying this because I get a different answer everywhere I turn to try to correct this! This also needs to include multiple schools in where I was attending. As well as include XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX and XXXX but it would not let me include multiple names/schools.

Consumer Complaint: 2 years ago by balance with Navient was around {$5000.00}. I had sent up account with Navient and consistently payed Navient. Navient just last month sold to XXXX, in which XXXX is reporting my balance to be {$5600.00}. The last reported amount that I needed to pay was {$680.00}. I have repeatedly tried to call Navient to get the information that was passed to XXXX last month to get the correct balance that was transfered to XXXX but they have told me that they do not have any information regarding my account.

Consumer Complaint: My balance is {$19000.00} with Navient and the advertised interest rate is about 6.4 %. My payment is $ XXXX/Month and there are 177 payments remaining, which means that if I ran the life of the loan ( XXXX ), I would have paid a total of {$29000.00}, of which {$10000.00} would be interest. That is 52.36 % interest, on a student loan that I was forced to take out because of the socio-demographic-economics of our country, where an education was force-fed as the only way I would be able to potentially lift myself and then family out of our low-income struggles, AND was disclosed as 6.4 %. Mind you, my degree I did earn and did very well at with a XXXX GPA, was in XXXX. These student loans, are predatory practices in which the companies and government, take advantage of the inelastic demand for them and charge students like me, egregious amounts of interest that force the borrowers to be stuck in debt their whole life instead of growing themselves out of their position and into a better life, which the loan for the education was supposed to do in the first place. I am formally filing a complaint for myself, and the millions of people in my situation because this should be illegal and it is flat out morally wrong.

Consumer Complaint: Navient is reporting that I was 90 days past due in XX/XX/2019. I called Navient several times to modify my loan due to my employement status. I sent the documents in multiple times and they state they never received anything until XX/XX/2019. I also sent certified letters to their office in XXXX XXXX, PA that they stated they never received. My loan was modified and brought current and they have not updated my credit report to reflect this. I supplied all the information several times and they state they never received anything. I have the certified mail that was signed for. I have also read that several other students have had issues similar to mine regarding documents. I want the credit report fixed to reflect current status from XX/XX/2019. I have made several attempts over the past year to try and get this resolved and nothing has been resolved.

Consumer Complaint: Upon doing a thorough review of my credit files, I discovered errors on all three Credit Reporting Agency Reports ( XXXX, XXXX, and XXXX ) from Navient/Dept of Education. I have two accounts from Navient, and both accounts are reporting a " 90 day late payment '' in XX/XX/XXXX, on all three credit bureaus reports. I have contact Navient directly multiple times to speak to the customer service representatives to verify my account payment status. They confirmed that I do not have any " missed or late payments '' in their computer system and in their system for the month of XX/XX/XXXX payment was made on time. They said they couldn't do anything but that I had to contact the agency they use that reports to the Credit Bureaus for them. In XX/XX/XXXX I mailed a letter to the company via the address they gave me. I received no response. I contacted Navient again, and they stated they can not do anything. I sent an additional letter to the company Navient uses again in XX/XX/XXXX and still received no response nor were my credit reports ever changed. I tried to contact the Bureaus individually and was instructed to contact Navient. Furthermore, I tried to dispute with the bureaus. For all three credit bureaus it is reporting as follows on both Navient accounts : XX/XX/XXXX-XX/XX/XXXX " Ok '', XX/XX/XXXX " 90 days late ''. It is not mathematically impossible to be on time three months prior and then all of a sudden " 90 days late ''. I want this fixed immediately as it is reporting incorrectly and as such is impacting my credit negatively.

Consumer Complaint: I was under a legal guardianship from XX/XX/XXXX to XX/XX/XXXX where the guardian was required by the probate court to approve or withhold approval of any contract as I was legally incapacitated with the inability to exercise the power/right to approve or withhold approval of any contract. As a consequence, any agreement, contract, or other binding document I'd sign without concurrent approval for the execution of the document from my then-guardian would have been considered null and void and unenforceable as my signature alone was not valid during that time. Several Promissory Notes containing my signature exists dated between the above two dates but no evidence of concurrent guardian approval can be located for any of them. My guardian did not sign anywhere on the Promissory Notes or include anything written or otherwise indicating approval. The Promissory Notes all have provisions for handling what is unenforceable. I made demands to my loan servicer for those Promissory Notes do one of the following : provide evidence that my guardian approved the execution of those Promissory Notes, or close all loan accounts and discharge all current balances associated with those Promissory Notes. Loan servicer responded by sending me duplicate copies of the Promissory Notes which were already in my files, but no evidence of guardian approval. I made a second demand and their customer advocate person sent back a letter filled with lies about the contents of the Promissory Notes and the actions of my guardian, not doing anything to abide by either of my demands. Loan servicer is now violating my rights.

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2020, I submitted a payment to pay off the remaining balance of my Fed loan XX/XX/XXXX for {$190.00}. The auto debit payment of {$120.00} for that loan scheduled for XX/XX/2020 pulled from my checking account even though the loan was paid off because the {$190.00} did not post until the same day. I have called on three separate occasions to have the {$120.00} auto debit payment applied to my highest interest rated loan ( 1-13 ) since XX/XX/XXXX has a XXXX balance and it has still not been applied to the account as of today ( XX/XX/2020 ). The latest representative says that the payment was applied on XX/XX/2020 to loan XX/XX/XXXX, but my account online does not show that this is the case and interest has accrued on the balance since XX/XX/2020 when the funds were originally withdrawn from checking account. From my end the money has not been applied and not been refunded, I have no email or hard copy mail that states otherwise. This money has been taken from my bank account and has not been applied to my loans. Please fix immediately.
