Consumer Complaint: My student loans were both subsidized & unsubsidized with Sallie Mae with very low or no interest. Then Navient took them over & they were all consolidated at a much higher interest rate. Is that legal? I was originally told my subsidized loans interest could never be raised.

Consumer Complaint: I have for the past six years tried forbearance, deferment and I continue to struggle. This student loan has ruined my credit and made it almost impossible for me to qualify for a mortgage. I need financial counseling that will actually help my credit score. I look forward to a positive outcome for this ongoing problem. Sincerely, Ms. XXXX XXXX

Issue: Getting a loan
Subissue: Fraudulent loan
Consumer Complaint: I attended and graduated from the school in XX/XX/XXXX. I have nothing against the intructors or the corriculum, just against the false pay after graduation and the high interest loans that were so easy to get and required. My personal problem was that i was an addict and did not touch these loans for almost a decade. Since getting into programs and getting back into society for 2 years i have made it my primary goal to pay debt and get credit and savings to the point of being able to afford to buy a home for my XXXX year old boy and i to call home. After contacting my creditor Naviant i was put on a year long probation period by making monthly payments of low cost but impact on principal or interest to my federal loans ( roughly {$16000.00} from original $ XXXX-mostly private ). 1 year later i am thinking that my getting back on track on my federal but Naviant calls and says that they accidently forwarded my payment to my private loans. What?? I thought Naviant was only working my federal. so apparently the fixed the problem and i was back on track. Now I was told that I had to start chipping away at my Private loans which was another 3rd party ( XXXX XXXX XXXX ). Long story short, they Like Naviant said they were very glad i was clean and they were excited to help me get back on feet with my credit. They even offered a settlement for my {$190000.00} debt ( originally XXXX ) for {$20000.00}, which i probably would of done if I could of found a buyer for my XXXX organs. Lucky me, I didn't. My interaction with XXXX XXXX XXXX started this year in early XX/XX/XXXX and lucky for me this was when I also started school after 15 years of leaving college for this culinary school. This school ( XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX ) i found out more about fixing credit. This is a non profit school where XXXX ( counselor ) took interest in my case since she new that XXXX XXXX XXXX had been closed in multiple states by Attorney Generals. Also the school had closed most of its schools around the world for only giving fraudulent loans and overselling the cost of school as well as making it almost impossible for repayment while working in the trade we were in debt for. After searching, we found out that the school had currently settled 2 years prior and agreed to repay loans and erase negative impact to credit bureaus. I currently am still paying federal since it is now on my credit report and i still plan on buying a home. But I do not plan on doing the same mistake with my private loans even with all the calls they do since there are no signs of them in my credit report. Well I hope i can get help, or at least direction of where I should go for help. Thank you, Recovery

Consumer Complaint: I made 6 payments to sallie mae/navient through money order. All 6 payments were cashed by sallie mae/navient, but never credited to my account. They put me into default for no payment for 270 days, even though I made 6 payments. I put my full name, address, and SSN on every money order. XXXX XXXX XXXX charged me over {$10000.00} in fees, and the US Government charged me {$22000.00} in default penalty. Had sallie mae/navient credited my account the payments, I would never have been put in default and charged {$30000.00} in penalties and fees. I was finally able to get somebody at sallie mae/navient to research my payments last year. They admitted they were never posted to my account and they refunded the 6 payments to me in 2019. What the US Government did to me is illegal.

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan
Consumer Complaint: Navient has failed to provide correct and up-to-date information about my loans. Even with the information that IS provided, it is VERY confusing. On my account, it states that on XX/XX/2020, a payment of {$840.00} was made to ALL of my accounts with Navient. Yet, it says an amount of {$270.00} was due on XX/XX/2020 when there was a payment already made. So I am unsure how to proceed because I am unsure if Navient is processing my payments correctly which will only further harm me and my credit. I demand that Navient provide accurate information and processes my payments correctly as I feel that I am over paying on my student loans. They are taking more money from me, which is harmful and deceitful, and not properly notifying me about what they are doing with my payments. In addition, a Navient representative told me that the reason why my payments were not processed properly was due to them " not seeing '' instructions that accompanied my XXXX payment. When I asked an XXXX representative, they told me that Navient should be able to see it. Therefore, Naviet lied to me about not seeing my instructions and have been incorrectly parceling out my payments for an unknown amount of time. Again, clearly a deceitful practice that harms XXXX members that Navient uses for their own gain.

Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments
Consumer Complaint: This complaint is against Navient Student Servicer. I started at XXXX University in XX/XX/XXXX. At that time, my previous student loan had been forgiven and closed. I completed my XXXX XXXX XXXX in XXXX in XX/XX/XXXX. In XX/XX/XXXX, Navient started taking payments ( {$300.00} per month ) from my account but by XX/XX/XXXX, I requested a forbearance. The forbearance process was not explained fully but it was granted. Within a few days, another loan from Navient appeared on my computer screen for {$430.00}. When I called Navient, I was told that there were two different loans. When I attempted to explain that I only had one loan, the representative told me that I took out a personal loan. I have never taken out a personal loan with Navient. I have always used the FAFSA system for my student loans. The representative granted a deferment on both loans for 6 months. Now, Navient tells me that I am not eligible for forbearance and that I owe {$95000.00} in student loans. I informed the Navient representative that could not be correct and she informed me that each day my loan was on deferment, I was being charged. I informed her that it seems Navient has a deceptive system they are using on students and she attempted to offer the Navient Student Forgiveness Loan. The representative started to ask me if someone else used my student loan information and she also mentioned the loan from Sallie Mae when I was attending the University of XXXX which was closed. She then told me that I paid off three of the loans but I still have eight more loans. When I asked her about the private loans, she could not explain how I received that type of loan without applying for it. I understand that not paying the student loan is not good but I can not pay {$800.00} worth of student loans per month. Navient is being unreasonable but according to them, they go by the reported income on W-2 forms. Well, if that is so, I should be eligible for a decrease since my spouse passed away on XX/XX/XXXX. I mentioned that fact to her but she was so involved in trying to sell me the Navient Student Forgiveness Loan package, she failed to listen to what I was saying. The Federal Government urges education but when individuals seek student loans to assist with their education, the loans are referred to companies that treat the consumer unfairly. The Federal Government should place a cap on the amount a company can charge per month for a student loan. They should also decrease the charges the student faces after receiving a forbearance or deferment.

Consumer Complaint: Greetings, I have previous filed a complaint against this company, Navient. I have explained to Navient employees on numerous occasions that I believe that this student loan was secured via unethical practices. Initially I grudgingly paid on the loan, as I was repeatedly threatened by Navient that if I stopped payments they would notify credit bureaus, and this would negatively impact my credit rating. At some point in this process I decided to advocate for what I thought was right. I advised Navient on numerous occasions that I had made a conscious decision to no longer make payments on this loan due to means used in securing this loan. Nonetheless, Navient continued to call me 6-7 times a day on my home and cellular telephone for months, finally I stated, " Please stop calling me so often ''. I utilized my cellular telephone for work, those calls were interfering with my work, they did stop calling my cellular telephone. Navient continued to call my home telephone number all through the day, night and weekends. Yesterday, I was advised by two family members outside of my home that Navient had contacted them looking for me. Navient has my home telephone number, my cellular telephone number, my email address and my home address, there was no need to place a " skip trace '' as indicated by XXXX XXXX. As of today, Navient continues to utilize my home number, my email address and my home address to communicate with me ; XXXX called me on my cellular telephone today. I believe once again Navient was attempting to intimidate me and harass my family members. There has to be a solution here.

Consumer Complaint: Back in 2010 when the Income Based Repayment plan was drafted and approved by the government, I went through a transition in my life ( moving from XXXX to XXXX ) and was out of an income in general. My Federal Student Loans granted me the option of IBR based on my situation. After going through the same process with ( formerly Sallie Mae ) I was denied IBR at that time and was told the only option available was forbearance. After seeing the lawsuit taking place against the company in California, it has come to my attention that this is very similar to my situation 10 years ago.

Consumer Complaint: My studentaid.gov account shows i have 6 college loans, 4 to XXXX XXXX of California - XXXX XXXX, and 2 to University of XXXX. My studentaid.gov says 2 of my XXXX loans were canceled and never dispersed. Navient is/has been charging me for 4 XXXX XXXX loans, the 2 unknowns, have much higher interest rates. My 2 XXXX loans on my studentaid say I owe {$13000.00} ( dispersed XX/XX/XXXX ) My 2 XXXX loans say I owe - {$11000.00} About the same for about the same time period, even though one was shorter and out of state tuition ... But there are these two other XXXX XXXX loans that were " given '' to me : 1 ) XX/XX/XXXX 1 month later for {$24000.00} and 2 ) {$3700.00} " given '' to me XX/XX/XXXX, 4 months AFTER the other 2 XXXX XXXX Loans were supposedly canceled. I have no idea where these other loans came from, and only recently noticed, because ive been trying to rebuild my credit and take better control of my finances.
