Issue: Struggling to repay your loan
Subissue: Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan
Consumer Complaint: After reviewing my account diligently recently, I have probable cause to believe I have been victim of " forbearance steering ''. ORIGINAL PRINCIPAL {$27000.00} ORIGINAL PRINCIPAL {$11000.00} Total payments from XX/XX/XXXX - XX/XX/XXXX = {$41000.00} * ( I am currently attempting to retrieve missing payment amounts from repayment initial start date thru XX/XX/XXXX, as that information has not been made readily available to me by Navient as of yet ). I have tallied up 80-90 months of forbearances through the life my loans which I first obtained in XXXX and began the repayment process in XXXX or XXXX. That is over 24 years and my account still has a balance of {$56000.00}. I am seeing XXXX cumulative years toward student loan forgiveness. In fact, I have not ever been counseled on any income-driven repayment program that may have been or is currently available to me, so Navient still has me on a standard repayment plan, which has my chances of any forgiveness set for the year XXXX, when the loan is set to mature. My current loan plan is Graduated Repayment. I originally received my loans under the Stafford Loan program ( FFELP- unsubsidized and subsidized ), which was discontinued in XXXX, so I had my federal loans turned into private loans ( not by my choice ) which has made me ineligible for the CARES Act during the Covid-19 pandemic crisis.

Consumer Complaint: Hello, I have an FFEL spousal consolidation student loan with my ex-spouse with Navient. When we were married we consolidated our individual government student loans in XXXX into this joint consolidation loan with Sallie Mae at the time. We divorced in XXXX and I have continued to make the monthly payments on the loan to keep it in good standing, however my ex-spouse has refused to pay anything towards the loan. We are also not on good speaking terms regarding financial matters. I have had financial difficulties in the past making the payments myself and therefore Navient/Sallie Mae at my request put the loan on an IBR plan with low monthly payments. During this time the interest continued to accrue substantially because of the large principle balance of both mine and my exs loans. Now the balance is larger than what it originally was and I feel that I can never pay it off alone. It has been 22 years since we signed for this loan, I have attempted many times to work with Navient to forgive some of the loan debt but they will not work with me. I have also reached out to local congress members for help but I have not had any help.

Consumer Complaint: XX/XX/2022 I noticed that my credit score that I had been working diligently to get back into a great shape, took a hit when Navient reported my federal student loan as 90-days delinquent. This dropped my score close to XXXX points. ( Financial literacy isn't taught in schools, and coming from a first generation family raised by my widowed mother this is something I am having to learn for myself. I understand that ignorance is no excuse, but I hope that you can take that information and help in any way possible. ) I called Navient that same day and was told they were not aware of any presidential pause extension. I was told to write a letter requesting it be removed. I wrote a letter right away explained that student loans were under a President Biden 's federal student loan pause. ( As of right now the extension is until XX/XX/2022 ) I wrote the letter, explained that I thought that along with all the other student loans it was paused. Per the Navient rep FFELP loans don't qualify which wasn't something I was aware of and as soon as she explained this particular loan was excluded. I also made the payment showing outstanding, and set this up on automatic deducting payments going forward. I would appreciate any any all help to remove this derogatory remark from my credit report. Thank you Kindly, XXXX XXXX

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer
Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled
Consumer Complaint: I have been dealing with both Navient and XXXX as they both reflect different balances. Over the course of many months and with little assistance from the ombudsman, I have had little to no success get answers. One institution will say something in total opposition of the other. I am trying to consolidate my privately owned XXXX loans to direct federal consolidation loans but I am unable to do so as the balance reflected are incorrect. I have been on the phone multiple times with both companies today. Additionally, Navient has an option to XXXX allocate where over payments as be made but there system overrides and splits the balance of the overage instead of paying down my smallest balanced loan as requested. Two customer services representatives have said I will have to call after the payment posts to have the payment reallocate. Come to find out, in the settings there is an option on how allocations are handled. Additionally, Navient advised me previously that in order to correct the balance owed I would have to contact my previous lender Sallie Mae whom last owned my loan in XXXX to insure that my balance is correct. Everyone continues to pass the buck and no one has the authority to do anything. I am working to get a direct consolidation as the only way to get a student loan reassessment based on forbearance over use is to have a direct loan.

Consumer Complaint: My servicer ( Navient ) made false promises and gave me bad advise as to how to handle my loans, servicer agents steered me towards deferments and forbearance 's that lasted for years driving up the interest and fees on my student loans to a very unmanageable amount, when I was finally given an IRP they signed me up for a 2 year contract and X amount per month but after only a few months they raised the monthly payment way above what I could afford. I filed a complaint with the Ohio attorney generals office in early 2017 ( complaint # XXXX ). The practices of NAVIENT are very deceitful and misleading putting me into a financial situation I will never be rid of in my lifetime causing me to incur a lower credit rating and making retirement an impossibility this late in life. Navient 's illegal business practices has literally caused my to have tens of thousands of dollars in interest and late fees added to my original loan!

Consumer Complaint: I have a loan with Navient, one of two that were not consolidated. I have been on a XXXX for several years. in 2019, Navient closed one account as a charge off. Now each year they re-report the same account as charge off and closed with a new close date. This will never drop off my credit if they keep this up. I have tried to dispute it with the reporting agency, and with Navient and have gotten no where. This loan is over XXXX XXXX XXXX.

Consumer Complaint: NAVIANT kept talking me into forbearances and deferments for almost 15 years making promises and telling lies about how it will impact me. Now I have a mountain of fees and interest I will never be able to repay. I have years of forbearances and deferments from NAVIANT. Not months but actual years!

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan
Consumer Complaint: I graduated from a XXXX program in XXXX with a private XXXX XXXX XXXX and a federal loan managed by XXXX. I payed off the private loan and co to yes making payments with the federal loan company as able. Sometimes I requested a deferment and was steered towards a forbearance. Im not sure is the exact year but so want to say XXXX - I had XXXX small children and was working. I received a call from a loan company telling me that I needed to consent to new terms and the company was not going to be XXXX anymore. I was told exactly what amount I needed my new monthly payments to be and there was really no room for discussion. I began receiving invoices from Naviant. I payed but my balance continued to climb and I needed relief from time to time and I would call a representative who would advise me to file a forbearance. Over the years my balance has continued to climb even though Ive been making payments. Its overwhelming. Im losing sleep worrying about my financial situation. My husband and I are trying to put our XXXX children through college right now and we are not able to afford certain things for them and ourselves that we thought wed be able to afford by now. I have called naviant several times to complain and see if my loan balance can be lowered or the interest forgiven but have been steered towards forbearance each time. It wasnt until I requested to specifically have an income driven repayment plan that they arranged one for me and that was this year. Ive been paying in some capacity for 21 years. I feel like I shouldve paid the balance off by now but Im not able to reach anyone at Naviant that can give me a record of my payments with XXXX and Naviant. I need my balance to be reduced or forgiven if Ive made all the payments. Thankyou.
