Consumer Complaint: I received a letter from M & T Bank, it was like a statement that stated an action as items returned. The amount was {$540.00}. The date this letter was issued is XXXX. I would have remembered doing or returning something in that amount, so I called M & T Bank to inquire. They told me it was identity theft and they caught it and made a note in their system that this was in fact not me! So now Im wondering if my information is all over the place. This bank did a great job in detecting it was fraudulent and sending me the letter. So I have no issue with the bank.

Consumer Complaint: M & t Bank arbitrarily pulled {$1200.00} out of our account for no reason they refunded fees the last time we had to file a complaint from them charging exorbitant fees that were unwarranted they refunded part of those fees not the entire amount but we accepted it as it were and just made do. Now they have taken that money back out of our account without warning and without permission causing our account to overdraft and piling up these that are absolutely absurd. We were not made aware of any type of action like this nor have heard of anything of this sort ever happening we've never had anything like this happen and had we known we would have fought it tooth and nail from the beginning because it's unjust and not right. We are going to lose our house as my wife lost her job from covid and got back to work we got back on our feet and M & t just pulls the rug out from under us again because apparently being up 31 % in revenue up 90 % in income and up 44 % profit is more important to M & t than their customers financial health. M & t has enriched themselves upon the backs of the people that can least afford it they are actively driving people into poverty they have done this repeatedly to us we have been account holders for 20 years we make regular deposits into the account every other week we've never done anything nefarious or underhanded aside from just try to get by and at every turn M & t has taking it upon themselves to illegally in a morally charges fees when none were warranted. I can't count the times that I've made a deposit only to incur fees the next day from things that were presented that M & t had one excuse or another as to why my deposits did not post it is ongoing it is unfair and it is unjust. Because of this immoral and unscrupulous behavior we are in the brink of losing our USDA backed home. We have a XXXX XXXX son and a daughter and we are literally going to be living in our XXXX because of M & t Bank. There was no need for them to do this there was no call for it there was no justification in fact we have the account set up so that nothing can come out if the money is not in there so why is it acceptable for M & t to pull {$1200.00} from our account without our permission without warning us without saying anything there was no justification had they mentioned it I would have fought it tooth and nail because it's not right and it's not anything that is warranted. I've never asked them for anything besides the fees that they charge back because their fees cause us to overdraft again and those fees cause additional fees and it's not right as they can just arbitrarily charge fees on top of fees taking thousands of dollars out of our account without any recourse. In the 20 years we've been with them we have paid literally thousands and thousands of dollars in Bank fees from M & t they have never done anything for us as customers besides charges at every turn no matter what it has been there's never been any offer of assistance in any way. We have applied for overdraft protection multiple times to be turned down we have applied for loans we have been turned down for those we have loans through other banks that M & t would not underwrite because they only want us there to take money out of our account to pad their bottom line. This needs to be reversed immediately we have our direct deposits coming from both of our employers this weekend and we will still be in a negative balance without the ability to pay our electric bill our water bill or our mortgage because of m & t 's agreed and despicable business practices. I would have never believed a company would treat a customer this way but here we are with M & t it is over and over and over again. There is no reason for any of this to happen aside from M & t wanting to maximize profits without any care for the number of lives they affect they are actively willfully and knowingly driving working class people into poverty and there's no recourse what do we do when the bank refuses to give you your money back they have fought us at every turn this is just been a complete and utter nightmare with everything going on in covid and having to face unemployment as we did we still thought we would get by. Have we been with any other bank I think we would have been fine but because it was M & t they intentionally post things in an order so as to him customers will directly incur fees I've seen it multiple times they were taken to court about it there was a class action lawsuit which didn't change their business practices. It is not just the fact that they post things incorrectly it's not just the fact that they have charged me fees when the money has been in my account and they just chalk it up to a mistake those are what I've caught there's been multiple times I haven't even bothered calling because it wasn't worth it this money that they've taken out of our account should not have come out it was not authorized if we did not approve it we did not agree to it they basically pulled {$1200.00} from our account for no other reason than to force us to pay hundreds and hundreds of dollars in fees because we will have a deposit hitting. I take it they saw study deposits coming in and decided they could make a bunch of fees if they just tried to charge back money that they had refunded to begin with because of their nefarious practices. If it weren't for the fact that we had tried to get the overdraft protections multiple times if it weren't for the fact that the fees that they charge or exorbitant and they charge fees that drain the account and those fees ultimately cause additional fees and they cause additional fees it just snowballs every time they begin doing this and they continue to do it unfettered without any type of accountability it is unjust and unfair and I can not abide it I can not allow my home to be foreclosed on because of our bank that we have done nothing but show loyalty to for two decades yet the only thanks we get is them causing our financial devastation. The bank should not be able to withdraw money causing additional overdrafts on the account and we are left on the literal brink of homelessness. All the while m & t 's margins increase and their stock price rises seemingly solely because of they're seeming efforts to actively drive working class customers into poverty I understand that it is beneficial for the masses to have as little as possible that way the corporations and the people profiting off of misery can keep a stronger hold. But this is not just it is immoral it is directly contrary to everything that America stands for. I know that my family didn't serve their country and sacrifice all that has been sacrificed so that corporations are protected in causing irreparable harm to American citizens. In fact I asked my younger brother who's a XXXX XXXX XXXX in the XXXX if that's what he had given up the majority of his adult life for he was incense over the fact that an American company could treat a loyal customer that way. A brand new customer shouldn't get that sort of treatment let alone somebody that has been with your company for 20 years this is absolutely ridiculous and I don't like people knowing our business but this needs to change and stop we should not be tasked with increasing your profit margins with no recourse. These business practices would not be acceptable in XXXX or XXXX let alone in the United States of America yet M & t continues to actively and knowingly harm people for no reason aside from their own corporate greed.

Consumer Complaint: I have had a forbearance on my home mortgage since the beginning of COVID. I have also been unemployed since the beginning of COVID. I was told on XX/XX/2021 by a bank employee that if I made 4 payments and got my missed payments down to 12 that I would be eligible for an unemployment forbearance. I was also told to call after the Federal holiday in XXXX and arrange the 4 payments and then I would not have a payment due until XXXX. I called today, XX/XX/XXXX, and talked to 5 different bank employees. The first 4 denied that there was any unemployment forbearance available and that all payments were due in full immediately. I was told that I would NOT qualify for anything else because I was still unemployed and already have a second lien by HUD on my mortgage. The 5th person I talked to said there is an unemployment forbearance available separate from COVID that exists for customers. I said that is what I need. I was told that I would not qualify and it wouldn't help me. He said that at the end of the month demand letters would be going out to all people who are 4 months behind in their mortgages. He said " If you want us to put handcuffs on you, we will. '' This is an outrage. I am able to make 4 or 5 or even 6 payments today. He told me that those payments would not help me and I would just lose the money. This is predatory lending. This is a problem. I hope the United States Dept of Treasury hurries up and puts in place some protections for people like me.

Consumer Complaint: This company has a serious issue with bullying, retaliation and straight up lying to governing bodies. I have been reporting them to multiple agencies, multiple times for their behavior and they continue to lie and can not provide any documented evidence that they're claiming is the cause of their actions. After this private company decided as a business to use taxpayer funded dollars by calling the SDPD on me - while I had told them for a month I was out of the country- they have done nothing to rectify the situation. They have cost me $ XXXX in refi savings by " accidentally '' marking me late with payments during forbearance. I then worked with HUD to force them to offer me the CARES Act forbearance plan. It was good for 1 month, with agreed and signed contract that all the forbearance/ecrow debt would be added to the end of the term/lump sum lien that could be paid on refi. Today, they sent a threatening letter about insurance that I had already told them I had paid in full for the year while in the forbearance exit process. And today I went to check my statement and they increased my monthly payment by almost {$700.00} to " spread out '' the forbearance escrow payments. They completely went against the CARES Act and the contract WE JUST SIGNED AND SUBMITTED. This company needs to XXXX burn to the ground. Why are they continually harassing us, costing us $ XXXX, destroying my credit for " errors '' and completely changing the payments that we just signed a contract about! At this point, CFPB, and other governing bodies- this is your responsibility. You allow these people to operate like this. What in the world are homeowners expected to do in this situation? How much of this are we expected to take?

Consumer Complaint: Can you or someone else contact me immediately I just walked outside and found 3 notices of a trustee sale on XX/XX/XXXX of my house posted on my door and I thought I was still on the XXXX forbearance program till end of month but my reason for contacting you is, regardless, my homeowners bill of rights, has been violated in almost every sense. I have received absolutely nothing from the bank about any of this happening either written or verbal or that is was it even possibly happening or that I have options if it was to happen. No notice, no 30 day contact, no contact of options, no 10 day notice, no 5 day, nothing!!! I definitely have no single point contact since Ive never been notified. They never informed me I it was time to submit a new application which I understand they would do. I never received any documentation from them in regards to my current forbearance so I am unsure what rules were to be followed by either party. I also have 2 renters/tenants I have to answer to and renters law to abide by. No documentation was obviously ever verified either. Yes in XX/XX/XXXX, they did begin foreclosure and I did have to file bankruptcy to divert it but it states that they cancelled or withdrew the foreclosure, and then put me on forbearance plans twice, which means they would have to start the process all over again and follow the book or my rights and not just skip everything not tell me and say they are selling in 21 days. In fact the only thing I have received the past 2 months is the email from them with the link to retrieve my monthly statements which for the past year they revoked my access to login so Im unable to retrieve them and they have been negligent at allowing an alternative copy be mailed or emailed to me, so I cant see statements either I previously have submitted 2 current applications for loss mitigation of which they were both denied and I was told I would be placed me on forbearance program, then that was extended and extended again and wait till a later date to go that path, the still needed to get better organized & understand any new programs that would come from this situation, but I was under the impression they would assist me at that time, not pull the rug out from under me, as Ive stayed in contact with them each time they have requested information and believe took a phone call from them 2-3 weeks ago and discussed the possibility of selling my home anyway and a foreclosure will ruin any financial gain or breaking even. I was finally after 3 years ( because of covid as well ) granted my social security XXXX benefits just in XX/XX/XXXX so now I am able to at least qualify for loss mitigation, without the use of rental income or side work of which 2 years ago they would instantly deny and waiting for my SSDI ( I BECAME XX/XX/XXXX XXXX IN XX/XX/XXXX ) I keep making house payments with my state XXXX until that ran out, and then defaulted when my ex abandoned the home and family and skipped state also in XXXX, which is also the reason I fell behind from not having income but unable to work & while awaiting a decision for almost 3 years from the social security office. Consumer Complaint: I have had numerous problems with this bank, M & T Bank, mostly with fees. Over the past few years I have had thousands charged to me in fees. Albeit a lot is due to overdraft charges due to financial struggle related to the pandemic, but I have had my statements changed around to depict me over drafting my account when it was actually M & T charging me account service charges. I have had deposits essentially go missing, in part or whole, and have never gained any assistance from the bank or even any concern over my well-being, though that is purely a customer service issue. Recently I deposited a $ XXXX check that was a 1 day clear check from a bank and customer Ive dealt with before so no issues of available funds from the issuer of the check. I was told the check would be available after the holiday and that the holiday delayed it, which I havent had issues with before, and then today I was told a four ( 4 ) day hold was placed on my account, although they are allowing other charges to go through and continue to overdraft my account which will cause me to have even more fees. I am convinced this is retaliatory, unfair and continues this trend of M & T causing their consumers to be charged fees, which in my research I have found this bank has had legal troubles in the past with this same issue. This action leaves me with no money, is inconsistent with hundreds of other deposits Ive had with this bank with no issue and is causing me even more financial hardship with the charges this will create. I believe this bank is acting, in the very least, unethical.

They informed me that I have to print it out or contact a lawyer. I was miss informed about the proper disclosures of a credit transaction and they have collected {$500.00} each month from me. And according to 15 usc 1635 they where suppose to respond within 20 days and return any money or property following rescission and I havent received anything or a respond. I had to call and find out about the information I disclosed. The contract they sent was very hard to read I had to send copies in different directions

Consumer Complaint: i am in the process of refinancing my loan to a lower interest rate. As a result, the loan will originate with XXXX XXXX XXXX, and my current loan with M & T Bank will be paid off. The payoff letter includes a late payment fee with a 0 day grace period. All of my statements have a 15 day grace period, and is also a requirement for VA loans. I can not get M & T bank to issue a new letter correcting the late fee. And, the title company must include the late fee in the payoff amount, as directed by the letter. I have called multiple times, as has XXXX XXXX to get the letter corrected. As of today, XX/XX/2021, ( letter is dated XX/XX/2021 ), i am unable to get a letter. Every representative I speak to, indicates that their 'system ' doesn't allow them to amend the letter. This is liken to a penalty for refinancing with a different company.

Consumer Complaint: Good morning I have been fighting with M & T Bank since before Covid hit on a loan modification and pre-mediation for foreclosure. In XXXX of XXXX I was separated and going through a divorce, with my income hampered I was no longer able to make payments as of XX/XX/XXXX. When I attempted to work on a modification suited to my current income, M & T Bank would not work with me. As such I fell behind on my payments and in XXXX of XXXX I lost my job due to Covid. At this point I was about a year behind and M & T had started Pre-mediation for Foreclosure. I contacted them to try to work with them, which they would not do. I went to pre-mediation in XXXX of XXXX but M & T and the Lawyer did not show up. At that point Courts closed and I was instructed to not take any action. Fast forward to this past XXXX when Courts opened back up, my pre-mediation was starting back up. M & T bank reached out to me to do a hardship, and I explained I was making more as well had the possibility of other income coming in starting XXXX of XXXX. Again they refused to work with me stating they did not have any programs that would help me even though I am able to make the Mortgage payment on my own if it were modified or re-financed..
