Issue: Trouble using your card
Subissue: Can't use card to make purchases
Consumer Complaint: Capital one issued a credit card to me with a credit line of {$300.00}. I have made frequent, timely payments of the entire balance owed each month. This is necessary because the credit limit is so ridiculously low that using the card actually hurts my credit. One trip to the grocery store and a tank of gas puts my balance over 50 % of my available credit, lowering my credit score. I requested a credit increase last XXXX and was rejected using outdated information from an XXXX report from XXXX, instead of my score at the time of the request. I was told I would need to apply for a new card because capitol one would not do a hard inquiry of my credit report otherwise. I applied for a new card and was issued an identical card with the same credit limit of {$300.00}, instead of increasing the limit on the 1st card. On the XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX, my card was declined for a {$4.00} cup of coffee and a {$2.00} charge, even though my card had a XXXX balance and a {$7.00} reward credit. My last payment of the entire balance was made on XX/XX/XXXX and posted to my capital one account XX/XX/XXXX. When I called to see why I was unable to use my card for 15 days/half of the month after capital one posted my payment to my card, I was told by the customer service rep and her supervisor that a 26 day hold had been placed on my card. They refused to say why I was unable to use my card for all but 4 days of the month, and was told my card member agreement and state & federal law creditors to place a hold on accounts indefinitely. There is no regulated, specified time limit for verifying that a payment has been received. None of my payments have been returned. I have made numerous payments a month, of the entire balance owed, for aproximately 1 year. It is completely unreasonable to believe that it takes 26 days to verify receipt of an ACH payment. Had the specific number of days a hold might be placed been listed in the card member agreement, I never would have agreed. The supervisor I spoke to stated she can not override this setting and I'll have access to the card sometime in XXXX! I believe they are engaging in fraudulent practices by receiving payment, posting the received payment in my account history, yet restricting access to the card stating they are not sure if the payment has been received. This {$300.00} account is clearly not a high risk account for capital one and this practice are harmful to consumers. The acct shows that I have XXXX available credit, XXXX balance due and {$7.00} reward credit.

Issue: Incorrect information on your report
Subissue: Information belongs to someone else
Consumer Complaint: I recently opened an account with Capital One and noticed that a late payment ( 30 day ) was placed on my credit report. I called Capital One and they found it and could only give me information that the card ended in XXXX. That account does not belong to me. I was asked for my social and date of birth and it did not match my information as well. I need this item removed from my credit report ASAP as it does not belong to me.

Issue: Getting a credit card
Subissue: Delay in processing application
Consumer Complaint: Capital one preapproved me for a credit card stating that all I had to pay was {$49.00} and they would give me a {$200.00} credit line. I agreed and I received correspondence via email stating that they are requesting a copy of my drivers license and Social Security card but I received an email stating the credit card was declined, even after sending proper documentation which I am going to be in closing in this complaint.

Issue: Problems at the end of the loan or lease
Subissue: Unable to receive car title or other problem after the loan is paid off
Consumer Complaint: I paid my vehicle off early on XX/XX/2023 {$2400.00} in anticipation of XXXX and being XXXX for a few weeks, never having a single late payment. Over the next 3 weeks, I received a lien release and a Thank You letter stating I paid my vehicle off and my online statement was marked closed. Well into XXXX, I contacted Capital One as I noticed my payment had not posted. I was assured by Capital One they had received my payment, and it took awhile to process. Around XX/XX/XXXX while in recovery for XXXX I began receiving collection calls. I returned their message inquiring what the issue was and continually stone-walled by foreign phone agents reading scripts. On numerous attempts, the agents were unintelligible and seemed to have no knowledge or ability to inquire what the status of my account was other than read a script about a past due payment. I informed them I had made a pay-off and I need to know what the status on that was, they had no knowledge or ability to inquire in to it. My account on the portal remained closed I did not trust the competency or authenticity of these phone agents who called me. At great effort and diversion, I was finally able to get my issue escalated to an English-speaking representative. They were unaware of why my payment had not posted, at no time was there insufficient funds. My bank said they declined no requests for funds. I submitted payment using the online portal as I do every month, my digital check l is saved on their site. During this conversation on XX/XX/XXXX I issued a payment for a second time, they charged me additional interest for XXXX and are claiming a late payment. To date, they have not cured the title and requested a lien release from the previous lender, XXXX XXXX.

Subissue: Didn't receive advertised or promotional terms
Consumer Complaint: When I applied for, and was approved for XXXX XXXX on XXXX, the Capital One website ( screenshots attached ) said New Cardmembers would earn {$200.00} off after spending {$500.00} in the first 3 months. The website also said Previous and Current Cardholders may not be eligible. I never had a XXXX XXXX card previously. I spent over {$500.00} in the first few days after receiving the card, and noticed I only received the regular 1 % points. I called Customer Service to ask why I did not receive the {$200.00} and all they could say was that the offer was not on my account. I canceled both of my Capital One cards ( I also had a XXXX Capital One Card ) later that day, and in the " other '' section noted the reason of " did not receive XXXX intro bonus XXXX XXXX '', as well as checking boxes for " rewards '' and " customer service '' as reasons for canceling. Something told me to XXXX Capital One XXXX XXXX later that day, and I noted a new page for XXXX XXXX, which had Columns for Good Credit, and Excellent Credit. My credit score at the time of applying was XXXX which is only Very Good. The Good column said 29.99 % interest and no intro bonus. The Excellent Column had the {$200.00} intro offer.

Consumer Complaint: The item was returned to the merchant, the merchant provided the confirmation of return/refund processed back to my credit card however the credit card got the refund and still charged me for the item which was returned fully to the merchant. The credit card was informed of the issue multiple times and provided the confirmation from the merchant about them processing a refund back to my card, but they chose to ignore it and for almost a year trying to bully me into paying them for something I returned back to the merchant and provided them with confirmation!
