Issue: Getting a credit card
Subissue: Delay in processing application
Consumer Complaint: I applied for a XXXX XXXX card from capital one. I provided my SSN, Drivers License information, and other identifying information and was approved. After receiving my card in the mail and trying to use my card for the first time, I was told it was " Locked for Fraud '' and asked to provide additional identification. I provided the requested information and kept getting told it was not enough despite it containing all the information they requested. They could also see I currently own a different Capital One Credit card for over 10 years, and it had the same identifying documentation and was in good standing. After multiple attempts with Capital One 's customer service I was left with a hard credit inquiry on my credit, and an unusable credit card since capital one can't figure out what identity documents they need. After searching this issue on the internet, it appears Capital One is approving everyone, then demanding identity documents people may not have. Even my passport wasn't sufficient .... This is fraud / bait and switch. I will never do business with Capital One again.

Consumer Complaint: The existence of a derogatory rating on my account is causing me significant concern. I am deeply worried about its potential impact on my credit. It has already resulted in the denial of a recent loan application and an increase in the interest rates on my existing credit accounts. I want to emphasize the severe financial and emotional distress that this negative rating has caused me and will continue to cause until it is resolved.

Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement
Subissue: Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement
Consumer Complaint: This issue is with Capital One over a disputed charge. On XX/XX/XXXX I booked a rental car from XXXX XXXX XXXX in XXXX XXXX, XXXX XXXX. The charge was for {$440.00} on my Capital One Venture card. On XX/XX/XXXX I arrived in XXXX XXXX, and long story short - the company wasn't able to provide me with a rental car and they never refunded my money. There was some issue and they had accidentally overbooked cars. They added my name to a list of XXXX people so they could call me if one became available, and they never called. I ended up getting a rental car through a different company and when I was back from my vacation, I first tried calling XXXX XXXX XXXX gave it a few hours of being hung up on and being passed around via a non-human phone-tree before I gave up. I obviously wish I had read reviews of this scam company before giving them any money. On XX/XX/XXXX I called Capital One and they refunded the charge temporarily while they filed a dispute with the company. Just recently ( XX/XX/XXXX ) the refund was reversed and I was charged the full {$440.00}. I've called Capital One several times now and jumped through every hoop they've given me - timestamped phone calls with XXXX, names of customer service agents I've talked to, and as much proof as I can that I never got what I paid for and I was scammed. But ( as of XX/XX/XXXX and XXXX ) I keep getting a vague response about why the claim can't be processed and I need to take it up with the merchant myself. Which, of course, I am unable to contact the merchant, by design. Honestly, in 5 or so years I've never had any issues with Capital One before and I'm beyond surprised about this terrible customer service. It seems crazy to me that they'd risk a years-long customer over charging back a {$440.00} scam transaction. And as far as the one agent that kept pinning the blame on VISA ... I work in the financial industry and I know that is not correct.

Consumer Complaint: Dear Capital One Customer Service, I am writing to bring to your attention a series of concerning and, in my view, unlawful actions taken by Capital One regarding an account that has negatively impacted my credit history. I believe that Capital One has violated multiple provisions of the Fair Credit Reporting Act ( FCRA ) and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act ( FDCPA ). XXXX. Failure to Notify Statute of Limitation Expiry : I have recently discovered that Capital One has been reporting an account, ending in # XXXX, as an outstanding debt that I Allegedly owe. However, the statute of limitations on this account has expired, and Capital One failed to notify me of this fact. This action violates the FCRA, which requires creditors to report accurate and up-to-date information. XXXX. Ignoring FTC Identity Theft Report : I previously submitted an Identity Theft Report to the Federal Trade Commission ( FTC ), reporting that the aforementioned account is a result of identity theft and does not belong to me. Despite this report, Capital One has continued to pursue collection activities and report the debt as if it were valid. This disregard for the FTC Identity Theft Report violates the FCRA and FDCPA. 3. Failure to Provide Contact with My Signature : Capital One has failed to provide adequate verification of the debt in question, including the absence of a signed agreement or any other form of documentation bearing my signature. This omission raises serious doubts about the legitimacy of the debt and violates the FDCPA. 4. Unauthorized Reinstatement of Reporting : I also observed that this account stopped reporting at one point but was inexplicably reinstated without any explanation or notification from Capital One. This action raises questions about the accuracy and integrity of Capital Ones credit reporting practices, which is a violation of the FCRA. I demand an immediate and thorough investigation into these violations and the removal of the disputed account from my credit reports. It is imperative that Capital One rectifies these matters promptly to avoid legal action. I am prepared to pursue all legal remedies available to me if these issues are not addressed satisfactorily within a reasonable timeframe. I kindly request that you provide a written response to this complaint within 30 days, outlining the steps Capital One will take to rectify these violations. Failure to do so will leave me with no choice but to escalate this matter through legal channels. I refuse to pay this debt that does NOT belong to me. Sincerely, XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX
