Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2022, I asked an American Express agent to provide me with a link so that I could upgrade my Amex gold account to an Amex platinum account. I told an online Amex agent with whom I intended to upgrade my existing card that I did not want a new account, as it would hurt my credit score, and explained that my wife and I are financing our first home. I did not want a new account on my credit report as my loan agent advised me not to open any new accounts. Because this was through an online Amex agent, this conversation is in writing, where I expressed many times to American Express that I did not intend to open a new account. Days after clicking and signing the link Amex provided me, I noticed that in addition to having my existing account with Amex upgraded, an entirely new account was opened in my name, against my wishes. I immediately closed the erroneously created new account upon realizing what had occurred. I have called Amex customer care seven or eight times and was told there is nothing they are willing to do to remove this from my credit report, even though I have documentation in writing with their representative of my wishes not to create an entirely new account. For the next seven years, I will have this opened and closed American Express account ( Dated XX/XX/2022 ) on my credit report, which Amex opened against my wishes. I would like this removed immediately from my credit report, and Amex should work with me in this process.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, I closed my American Express credit card with a credit balance of {$680.00}. AmericanExpress informed me that they would sent me a check to close out the remaining balance. I waited a month and I did not receive the check. On XX/XX/XXXX I contacted AmericanExpress. I was told a checked was mailed to me and cashed on XX/XX/XXXX. I informed XXXX that I never received the check and I made a couple of follow ups with them afterward. I was told the balance would be sent to me again through wired transfer. Then on XX/XX/XXXX, I received a letter from XXXX stating again that my remaining credit was cashed through a check and with the letter, a copy of check was attached. I saw no signature at the back of the check and it was deposited to an account I did not recognize. I immediately contacted XXXX and told them the situation. XXXX informed me that they would investigate with the back office and keep me updated. Afterward I never heard from them. Each time I contacted them I was told that the check has been mailed and cashed and they refused to refund me the credit balance.

Subissue: Credit inquiries on your report that you don't recognize
Consumer Complaint: I received an email from credit karma that there was a hard inquiry on my credit, but I do not recognize the company running the hard inquiry ( AMEX ) or know why they would perform a hard inquiry on my credit without my consent ( nothing in my life currently would require a hard inquiry ). I believe this might be a fraud situation, which is why I'm filing a complaint. Also AMEX ran a hard inquiry twice on my credit, which both times I did not consent to.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I thought I purchased a service to trade a time share for a vacation club membership. They asked for nthe transfer costs on XX/XX/XXXX. The first transaction was charged on my American Express Card amount of {$9000.00}. The second charge was {$1500.00} on my American express Card. In XXXX the local offices were closed and I was left holding the bag. XXXX was contacted and I was advised that the corporation that ran the charges on my card did not exist and they were nshut down by the attorney generals office and charged with fraud. This took place in early XXXX of XXXX. I had difficulty getting the old statements mailed to me. On XX/XX/XXXX, XXXX the case was filledand a letter outlining the events, as well as the attorney generals findings. Our case number is case XXXX XXXX. 0ver the ensuing months, we called AMEX XXXX XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX, XXXX and XXXX. Each time there seemed to be a lot of uncertainty on their part as to what was happening and where their investigation stood. Each conversation was an hour or more and included promises of returning ncalls, which never happened. At one point ba card credit was posted on my account was posted and later rescinded and that just added to the overall confusion. AMEX never once alerted me about this company and I felt abandoned. I heve a long history with AMEX and have spent enormous amount of money.

Consumer Complaint: My name is XXXX XXXX and i have learned that American Express has taken illegal action against my credit card account. this constitutes an adverse action under the equal credit opportunity act. American Express has fraudulently closed my account without my expressed consent. By law these actions are unlawful due to the fact that they didn't have authority by law to take such action once a credit card ( social security account number ) is used to open the account in which one was used to open the account under the truth in lending act. This account is strictly for purposes of personal family and household use. American Express is preventing me from being able to provide for my family and is causing me substantial harm. These actions have cause me to seek credit counseling to prevent me from declaring bankruptcy. however, if credit counseling is not achieved. I will be forced to declare bankruptcy then American Express will not get any type of payment from me. I am advising American Express to investigate a billing error for the full amount due to the fact, by law a credit card was used to open the account and there were absolutely not public credits used to credit the account which it should have already been credited from the start. because my credits were not applied properly due to unknown purposes i have determined that American Express is using my account in an unauthorized manner and is not allowing me to benefit from using my social security account that was designed to benefit the consumer. this is harming me and causing injury to my person.

Consumer Complaint: I have an American Express card, setup with Online Banking. Online Banking contains information associated with XXXX of my checking accounts housed at XXXX separate banks although the account is setup for auto-debit for the monthly balance in full payments. AmEx has a product call Send & Split with XXXX. I do not know exactly how this product works nor have I ever set it up for my card. This complaint is unusual because it doesn't have to do with a charge to the credit card but with payments to the credit card. Also concerning is the lack of consumer protection when it comes to fraudulent online access. On XX/XX/XXXX I recvd a call from AmEx XXXX XXXX XXXX questioning an attempt to send {$2000.00} to XXXX. I advised them I had not authorized nor had I initiated this. Determining it was fraudulent, AmEx shutdown my credit card, requested a new card, and sent me a temporary password in order for me to reset my online password. Prior to the {$2000.00} transfer attempt, there were XXXX payments to the AmEx card initiated via XXXX Banking. {$4000.00} from my XXXX Bank account and {$4300.00} from my XXXX account. This would have eliminated my AmEx balance but it also caused my checking accounts to become overdrawn. On this same phone call I was transferred to customer service in order to discuss the return of the {$8300.00} to my checking accounts. I was advised by AmEx customer service that until I receive my new card and give them the XXXX digit code on the back, this could not be done. The card is not due to be received until XX/XX/XXXX... XXXX days from the day of the phone call!! On XX/XX/XXXX I received an email from AmEx that my Online access was suspended due to excessive unsuccessful attempts. I phoned AmEx and was directed to the ID protection team. I was disconnected. I phoned back XXXX more times. After the XXXX attempt I successfully discussed the issue. The representative stated they could not review my online account activity until I receive my replacement card and give him the XXXX digits on the back! We discussed how my online account could be breached. He stated when someone has all the card info they can access the AmEx website, get the User ID and then reset the password. I'm shocked! No additional authentification measures? So here I sit, embarrassed with overdrawn checking accounts, no ability to access cash via ATM, and absolutely no attempt on AmEx 's part to resolve the issue. AmEx essentially stole money from me.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2022, XXXX XXXX ( a subscription merchant ) charged my American Express card {$71.00}. I found this amount excessive as I had paid an amount around {$20.00} the year prior and do not recall being provided any documentation at any time indicating that the subscription would renew at this amount. I contacted the merchant on XX/XX/XXXX asking them to withdraw that charge. They refused. I then asked the merchant on the same date to provide me documentation showing that I had agreed to be charged the amount in question. They did not respond to my request. On XX/XX/2022, I opened a billing dispute with American Express. On XX/XX/2022, American Express closed the dispute indicating that they found the charge to be valid. They said that I can contact them via Chat within 30 days if I wanted to reopen the dispute. On XX/XX/2022, I opened an online chat with American Express and asked them to provide detail as to the extent of their inquiries on the matter. They indicated that they asked the merchant for a receipt and when one was provided, they deemed the charge valid. I indicated my dissatisfaction with that line of inquiry and requested that they ask the merchant to provide a contract indicating that I agreed to be charged the amount that I was. The agent said that he needed to collect some information to reopen the inquiry, and then asked me to provide information that was irrelevant or that I could not possibly provide. When I pointed this out, the agent stopped responding and the chat went no further. On XX/XX/2022, I opened another online chat with American Express and indicated that I wished to reopen the dispute. The agent said that they would escalate to a supervisor and I was asked to stay there for a supervisor. I received a message saying that the supervisor would be available in " about two minutes ''. I waited more than 10 minutes and nobody came to talk to me. I assumed that I was again being ignored as I had been on XX/XX/XXXX.

Consumer Complaint: I am a successful business owner married to a professional XXXX. We share joint bank accounts and file taxes jointly. My business uses a XXXX American Express in excellent standing. For personal expenses, we use my husbands personal American Express card. We hold other credit cards in each of our names, however his American Express is our preferred means of paying so that we can accumulate the rewards that come from using XXXX account. Due to a personal bankruptcy of mine 10 years ago, I have not been able to get a personal American Express in my own name. We are forced to put all our household expenses on my husbands account. This is a source of shame that I am unable to have my own card in my own name. I have tried personally to get this resolved. Other credit card companies have given me small credit lines which over time I was able to build up. American Express will give no such process or insight on how long this will go on. They say you can continue to apply but will not say if this is an indefinite amount of time or if there is some thresh hold I must meet. Since it has been over 10 years, I have great credit I wanted to know what process I needed to go through to have this decision reconsidered. I was told by the New Accounts and Decisions department that they can not give me any such information. They went on to say that i need to get a bankruptcy attorney to reach out to them to get an answer. After retaining a bankruptcy attorney and paying them a retainer to review the case, American Express replied with the same automated response that they retain the right to decline any application based on a bankruptcy with no further information, only now I am out {$650.00} for the attorney and the same lack of information.

Consumer Complaint: I recently applied to an American Express Hilton Honors credit card. I was denied for no reason and no explanation, which makes absolutely no sense. They request submit letters from my bank to prove who I am and my address, taking time out of my busy day. I have never in my life ever had to do this! I have a XXXX credit score, have not applied to any credit cards recently. I'm below the thresholds for inquiries, so there is no reason to deny. I submitted 2 bank letters going out of my way and losing days work over this and I have yet to hear back from them. I feel I'm treated unjust here. I am planning on traveling and I believed AMEX Hilton Honors is the right choice for myself especially as I will be staying at Hiltons XXXX. I have credit cards little to no balances, great income and excellent credit and to be treated unfairly and unjust with no negative reporting on my report and a high credit score is outrageous and seems discriminatory. I tried calling reconsideration line asking for explanations and a reconsideration and they were no help they kept asking for documents, banking letters etc. I submitted and still no response. This is very unethical on their side. I would be happy with the credit card for its travel perks and want to be reconsidered. But this makes me lose faith in this bank for treating me unfairly. I feel I'm being discriminated by my age, which is unfair. I demand a response and a resolution. Thank you.
