Consumer Complaint: In XX/XX/2022, I was approved for the American Express Blue Cash Preferred card ( account ending XXXX ), which advertised a {$300.00} " welcome bonus '' if you spend at least {$3000.00} within 6 months of account opening ( similar to the existing offer - see link below ). When the card eventually arrived at my home, I called AMEX customer service to confirm that I was eligible for the welcome bonus ( as I always do when I receive a new credit card ) and to confirm the terms. A customer service representative explicitly confirmed, over the phone, that I was eligible for the welcome bonus. Within the last week or so, I was able to cross the {$3000.00} spending threshold, which means I should have seen the {$300.00} credit. Today, I contacted AMEX customer service again, who this time stated that I am actually not eligible for the bonus, due to " account history. '' I was never informed of this, so the news came as a surprise. The representative informed me that she will open an internal investigation, but that I shouldn't expect a resolution in my favor. Hence this complaint. Consumer Complaint: American Express has constantly been reducing my credit limit on some of my American Express credit cards this year including my gold card in which they took from me an annual fee of {$290.00}. This last reduction of my credit limit today on my account ending in XXXX from a credit limit of {$3400.00} to {$2100.00} will reduce my XXXX score by at least 30 points. I have been a customer of American Express for over thirty five years and never had a late payment or used more then 50 % of my credit limit on any of my cards. As of today my total outstanding balance on all my American Express cards which are five cards is no more than {$4000.00}. And even before American Express started reducing my credit limit this year on various American Express cards my outstanding balance was never more than 50 % of my credit limit. I tried to settle this latest issue with American Express but they would not relent. They asked me what my income was and then wanted me to send in proof of income. I told them that if they reviewed my credit report they would see that my monthly payments to all my credit trade lines is at least {$7000.00} a month totaling an income of at least {$84000.00} a year. But apparently thats not good enough for them. I once did in fact send in proof of income due to a credit line reduction but it did me no good as they refused to reinstate my credit limit. I am a hardworking business person and no longer have time for their pettiness. It seems they are attempting to damage my credit score in the hopes that with a lower XXXX score my other credit card vendors will also reduce my credit limits which so far they have not. This is an egregious abuse on their part. I will no longer pay an annual fee to them. In my continuing my relationship with them as a XXXX XXXX client this year they have incurred punishment upon me. And I will inform my business clients of just how mean spirited and abusive they are. And to mention with this horrible pandemic that we had to live through they would have a decent attitude. Shame on them.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/22 I was notified via email with the following message.. " Hi XXXX, Your company was recently submitted by XXXX XXXX XXXX as a 'XXXX XXXX XXXX ' referral to American Express XXXX Schedule an appointment with me at your convenience to discuss how American Express can help move your business forward. I'm looking forward to our chat. Thanks! XXXX XXXX '' I received a phone call from this person stating we " had a scheduled appointment. '' which we did not. I was told I qualified for their American Express Business Credit Card. I was excited because I had just joined the XXXX XXXX XXXX to help improve my credit score which is not good. " XXXX '' went through all the steps of the card process as if I were approved. Then transferred me to someone else that let me know they ran my credit report and I was denied. I asked for this inquiry to be removed from the credit report because I did not give anyone authority to run a credit report. I was told I would have to call the credit reporting agency because they could not take it off. This has further damaged my credit report from the last two credit card scammers who did this to me and lowered my score.

Consumer Complaint: I had an American Express XXXX XXXX credit card. The card had a due date on XX/XX/XXXX, and I inadvertently forgot a small balance of {$18.00}, and made the payment on XX/XX/XXXX as soon as I realized it. I was charged a late fee with no surprise. However, I thought it could get waived due to the small balance and I didnt have other late fee within the 12 month calendar year. In addition, I had about {$30.00} cash reward could be used to offset the credit card balance. To my surprise, American Express refused to waive the late fee as a one time courtesy, and told me the reward could not offset the late fee. I had to pay off the total balance first, and contact them again to get a check of the $ XXXX reward amount. This is totally nonsense! They ignored how many times I have made the payments on time or even many days earlier, and how long I have been a good customer with American Express since XXXX! They still charged an {$18.00} late fee for a balance of {$18.00}, and it was only late for one day.

Consumer Complaint: XX/XX/XXXX : My employer gave me ( 2 ) {$100.00} American Express Prepaid Cards. I know the individual that orders the gift cards and she specified that they were sent directly from American Express to the office and she opened and delivered the packages of cards herself. These cards did not spend time on a shelf in a store where they could have been skimmed. I was financially okay at that time and saved them until I needed them, in my house in a secured location. XX/XX/XXXX approx XXXX : I need them. I went to check the balance and BOTH of the cards have been cleared of funds!! Details : The first of the 2 cards had it's funds loaded to a XX/XX/XXXX app based out of XXXX, TX. ( XXXX XXXX XXXX, - ( XXXX ) {$20.00} charges ) and an online gambling platform called, " XXXX '' ( XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, - XXXX 1 ) XXXX charge & ( 1 ) XXXX charge ). The total fraud on this prepaid card is {$99.00}. The second of the 2 cards was used to buy something from a paypal vendor called " XXXX '', most likely associated with XXXX or XXXX. ( XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, - ( 1 ) {$93.00} ). The total fraud on this prepaid card is {$93.00}. XX/XX/XXXX approx. XXXX : Attempted to call the company using the number listed on the card ( XXXX ) and received a recording that stated " this line is disconnected. '' I then looked on XXXX to find a valid number. I tried a second phone number from XXXX ( XXXX ) and received a recording that stated " Thank you for calling American Express. Goodbye. '' I found a third number ( XXXX ) that asked me to enter my card number. After entering the card number, the recording said, " Thank you for calling American Express. Goodbye. '' At this time I looked further on XXXX and saw posts from others online that were having the exact same issue as I am in XX/XX/XXXX, except with cards that had THOUSANDS of dollars in fraudulent charges. XXXX of the posters recommended reporting American Express to the FTC, which directed me to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. XXXX PM - I called another number that was found on XXXX ( XXXX ) and was able talk to a representative named XXXX, who was very helpful! The representative stated that " this is not the correct number to call. '' She took down my name and phone number just in case the call was disconnected like the 3 calls previous. She gave me the number XXXX. She then transferred my call to that number internally. XXXX XXXX - I waited for a representative. XXXX XXXX - The representative responded and looked at the account balance and transactions. She stated that the transaction was already completed and the funds have successfully left the card. She then stated that there is nothing that we ( American Express ) can do. When I asked if I had to open a fraud claim she stating " No, they don't do that here. '' When asked to clarify if they have to report defrauded customers internally or externally, she said, " No, they don't have to report anything. There's nothing that we can do. '' The total fraud from both cards is {$190.00}. When I see the stories from others online, I realize that I am fortunate to have only lost just under {$200.00} since others have lost literally thousands of dollars from this company 's negligence in protecting their servers. All of the transactions from reports that I've seen online from various forums are from XX/XX/XXXX. The only two places where these ( 2 ) cards and their account specifics existed were at American Express on their servers and on the physical card that was in my house, in a secured location. The only way that this information could have been lifted is if American Express had a security breach of their server which caused their customers card numbers, security codes and other card info to be leaked to fraudsters.
