Issue: Getting a credit card
Subissue: Card opened as result of identity theft or fraud
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2023 while making a purchase with the cashier, I was asked if I have a rewards card where I earn points for my purchases. I said no. I asked was it a store card because I didn't want one, I was very specific about that. I said I had been working on my credit for two years and I didn't want a hard inquiry nor a credit card. The cashier said " oh no, it's not a credit card. It's for reward points when you make future purchases. When I entered the information requested on the key pad, one of the questions was my social security number. I asked him why is that a question? He stated " oh it's to make sure the points are given to the right person and no one claims your reward or discount ''. Once I paid for my purchase and was leaving he says " oh this is your receipt and booklet ''. It was a store credit card booklet. I confronted him about lying to me and says " oh don't worry about it, just don't use it! ". I was lied to, mislead, deceived and my credit now has a hard inquiry on it that I didn't want. All for the sake of his quota to get people to sign up for a XXXX store credit card. Synchrony Financial was contacted immediately and it will take 30 days to resolve! XXXX at XXXX XXXX, XXXX, MI XXXX on XX/XX/2023 at XXXX

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2023 I received an alert from credit sesame saying I had a new credit card inquiry! I immediately pulled up my credit report and it shows on my report that I inquired about a Lowes credit card. The lady explained to me that they need to take measurement to make sure that it wasnt me! She ask me to verify my social security number and I did and she told me that this is totally different from what she was looking at and then went on to say that I need to contact transunion and let them know that there is an inquiry on my credit report and that it doesnt belong to me! Now, I contacted the XXXX credit bureau and they told me that they can just remove anything without contacted you and making a report and to print it out and send them a company of it! Thank you, for your time and patience!

Consumer Complaint: I am not a tax expert, attorney, or legal counsel but rather a consumer pursuant to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. I am in receipt of a communication via implication that any individual is an attorney or that any communication is from an attorney in response to a request for validation of an alleged debt on behalf of depository institution Synchrony Bank. The balance in excess of {$1.00} in accordance to the Fair Credit Billing Act is a credit balance deceptively purported as The false representation of the character, amount, or legal status of any debt balance. Synchrony Bank confirms that the credit balance due is correct and has made no effort to refund the credit balance in full by check, cash or money order. As there is no deficit stated to verify a debt Synchrony Bank has illegally taken action that can not legally be taken to disgrace the consumer by communicating to any person credit information which is known or which should be known to be false. Please see enclosed credentials and deceptive communication enclosed alleging debt.

Consumer Complaint: This debt collector is falsely reporting the dates of this debt to the credit bureaus. They have reaged the account and need the original credit card debt information. This account should be at the statue of limitations but they have purposely changed the date to make the account look new when it is very old. I have tried to dispute this through the credit bureaus already without success to get the accurate information reported. Credit was opened in 2016. I have emails with the date from that account. The amount seems inaccurate as well.

Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed
Subissue: Debt was result of identity theft
Consumer Complaint: This is a follow up to a previous complaint XXXX. I recently received a summons about this PayPal debt that I have said all along is not mine. Apparently someone started a PayPal credit card at an address in Iowa where I have not lived in 20 years. It appears to be a result of identity theft, though I see that PayPal Credit has a history of heavy handed debt collection tactics, getting consumers to sign up for credit unknowingly and without their consent, and similar tactics. I contacted PayPal Credit customer service and started an investigation into the identity theft. My reason for contacting CFPB is just to alert the authorities about this situation to keep everything above board. Attached is a copy of my reply to the summons I received and submitted to the clerk of court, as well as the article I found about CFPB taking action against PayPal Credit under suspiciously similar circumstances to what I am currently facing.

Consumer Complaint: I have four high yield savings accounts open with Synchrony Bank. Those accounts were opened with the help of my daughters, who are fully authorized to help me with my finances. In the aggregate, those accounts hold {$250000.00}. I have repeatedly called Synchrony Bank with my daughter to verify my identity. I repeatedly advised the Synchrony Bank representatives that my daughters have full authority to discuss my finances with them. On XX/XX/2023, two transfers that I scheduled from two of my non-Synchrony Bank accounts into my Synchrony Bank accounts were initiated. Today, XX/XX/2023, transfers to and from my accounts were suspended without warning or explanation. I again called Synchrony Bank again with my daughter and I again verified my identity. The Synchrony Bank representative said that my accounts were under review because they could not verify my identity, even though I had answered all the security questions they asked. Then, this afternoon, Synchrony Bank suspended access to my accounts and stated that the accounts are under review and that I may not have access to my funds for up to 60 days. This is unacceptable. Synchrony Bank does not have legal authority to confiscate my own funds from me without explanation and without recourse. I will be sending a copy of this complaint to the New York Attorney General.

Issue: Fees or interest
Subissue: Charged too much interest
Consumer Complaint: Subject : Complaint of misleading customer Dear Sir/Madam, I installed XXXX XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX from company XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX Total price of installment was {$13000.00}. I was offered a financing option from their contact ( company who installed the HVAC ) bank ( HOME DESIGN/SYNCHRONY BANK ). XXXX XXXX from heating and cooling company called me and told me they have sent all documents to bank and the installment is {$340.00} per month. They told me they will provide the me link to setup payment. I asked them what are terms and conditions. They told me whatever installment plus {$29.00} per month service fee. I told them it is not bad deal. I setup auto pay for total of $ XXXX and started paying. On XX/XX/XXXX my remaining balance was {$7800.00}. On XX/XX/XXXX I got an email stating that my remaining balance is {$13000.00} adding all the percentage of interest from beginning ( total $ {$5500.00} ). I paid all those months to pay again. I was really sad. I called the bank about the situation they told me it was a promotion at that time. Because of not paying off all loans within that promotion period interest was added from beginning. They told me they can not do anything about it. Heating and cooling company directed me to bank didnt satisfied me why would they not let me know about loans terms and conditions. In this situation I am feeling I was misled from heating and cooling company. The person who contacted me about financing options was not serious or careless who failed to explain me about loans terms and conditions that cost me extra {$5500.00}. When I received a link to setup payment there was a set amount. They knowingly set my monthly payment lower so that they could claim the more money. I had never heard of this in my life. I didnt not have any option to change the monthly payment and I did not set up amount. The set amount was less so I could not pay off with in the promo period. I did not pay attention to those emails until XXXX of this year XXXX because I had auto pay set up and having that amount ready in my account. I was never missed any monthly payments. In short I was not told the terms and conditions of the loan so I believe I should not pay the interest from beginning again. I am happy to pay whatever the interest is to remaining balance or I can pay off remaining balance altogether.
