Consumer Complaint: I have been a Venmo user for over 3 years. I opened my first personal account with Venmo two years ago which I used to send money to family and friends and later on I went on to open a Venmo business account as I do Focus Groups to make a living making me an independent contractor however, I was not aware that I could not have two accounts and it was against Venmo policy. My business account was recently frozen with over {$900.00} in it and over {$200.00} in my personal account and I have spoken with more than one supervisor and I was told before an account specialists looked into my case that the two accounts would be combined contingent upon me providing my State ID. As of now, I received an email from a Venmo account specialist stating I can no longer use there services and my funds will be held for 180 days ( 6 months ). I have no money for my bills and my electricity has been shut off because of this. I will be taking legal action against Venmo

Consumer Complaint: I tried to send the funds to my nephew in XXXX XXXX, via Paypal on XX/XX/XXXX ( transaction ID XXXX ). I had no problems sending money via paypal in XXXX years and using my bank account. This time, the PayPal system required that I log on to my bank account and that failed three times when PayPal would redirect me to log in. However, I could log onto my bank account using a different browser. I called PayPal and they said there was nothing I could do and it was my bank 's problem. I called my bank and was told that this was a PayPal problem. This had never happened before in over XXXX years. PayPal had never directed me to log into my account from their site. I ended up adding my debit card that is tied to the same bank account that is on record for my PayPal account. The transaction went through. However, I was now required to pay {$11.00} in fees to send {$200.00} to a XXXX account. If the money had been just deducted from my bank account as usual without using the debt card, the same transaction would have cost {$4.00}. I complained to PayPal and they have done nothing and refused to refund the difference. I feel like they redirect customers to log into their bank account so that when that fails, customers are forced to use debit cards for them to generate higher fees. For over XXXX years with PayPal, there was never direction to log onto bank accounts from the PayPal site and the fees were reasonable. Thank you. XXXX XXXX

Consumer Complaint: Why is paypal, venmo and others charging you money to get your money back sooner? This is absurd. Why are banks taking 3-5 days, this is the digital age, no hastle of the post office. Americans are being price gouged at every turn and enough is enough. They certainly let you buy things instantly, but somehow getting your money back instantly is a fee? This should be a class action lawsuit NOW, not later.

Consumer Complaint: I authorized a payment for a purchase online from a friend. After authorizing, I suspected fraud. We called and emailed Venmo immediately telling them not to authorize. I also called my bank and reported potential fraud. The bank recommended that I stop payment, and I did. In the days to follow, Venmo contacted me saying that they sent this person {$900.00} on our behalf, because my bank was not authorizing the payment. We contacted their customer service department several times telling them that we are potential victims of fraud. They said that since we authorized the payment as " friends and family '' on the Venmo app, that there is nothing they can do. They froze my account and refuse to assist me, saying that I owe them the {$900.00}. I called them back asking why I am responsible for Venmo to pay a " loan '' to this potential fraud customer. They just said it was our policy. I asked for them to identify that in their documentation, and they did not. I asked several times for corporate escalation and they refused. I am asking Venmo to recognize that this " loan '' is not my responsibility. In addition, I am asking for CFBP recognize Venmo as a company that is not holding themselves accountable for their responsibility to the public and protecting their customers from fraud. CFBP, please assist in settling this dispute. Thank you

Consumer Complaint: Last night, ( XX/XX/23 ), I tried to use my credit card to make a payment to someone for household goods. The payment was denied. This morning I tried again. At first the payment went through and everything was fine, but then PayPal reversed the payment. And then I received a notice that my account was permanently restricted, and that I could no longer use it. I have no idea why. I tried to find out why, but kept getting sent back to the same page that says my account is restricted and I can no longer use it. There is no way on the website that I can find out why my account was restricted, and no way to dispute it. I've had this account for over 20 years. I currently have some money in my account that they won't release for up to 180 days. I need that money! One of the reasons I was trying to make a payment with my credit card, is because I need a furnace, because mine is broken. My house is very cold right now! There's some other items that I need for my home that were included in the payment I was trying to make, which was {$3600.00}. I was trying to use my credit card, because I don't have that amount in my checking account. Thank you, XXXX XXXX PayPal email : XXXX XXXX

Consumer Complaint: Ive had a Paypal account for about 15 years. I used it to receive payments from shoppers on my website. The account is connected to my bank checking account only in order to receive funds paid to me from my customers. Ive never used my checking account alone or thru Paypal to pay for a purchase online ever. The only time I used Paypal to make an online purchase was when I had cash in the Paypal account from my customers, and I used to cash balance to make an online purchase. On XX/XX/XXXX I was informed by XXXX that someone hacked into my XXXX account and attempted to make XXXX purchases. Only XXXX of them went thru, which was a charge for {$2000.00} for a laptop computer. XXXX confirmed they could see that I did not make the purchase and my shipping address had been changed. Paypal also confirmed the hacker made XXXX attempts to change my address and phone number. I have also received over XXXX spam emails to my email address associated with my XXXX and Paypal account. On or about XX/XX/XXXX when I became aware of the situation I filed a dispute with Paypal. XXXX provided me with the invoice to show the fraudulent purchase was shipped by the seller to an unconfirmed Paypal shipping address. With Paypal, all sellers must ship to the buyers confirmed address or the seller does not get paid. I live in XXXX XXXX TN for the past 5 years. The scammer had this item shipped to an address in XXXX, over XXXX hours away from me. I do not know who this person is and I have no alternate addresses. Paypal first sent me an email stating the case was closed as the seller provided proof of shipping, but it was to a fraudulent address created by the hacker. Paypal closed out my claim and found in favor of the seller. A day later, they reopened my claim and stated it was still under investigation. At first, the claim was filed as item not received, but then realizing the mistake, the reopened the claim as a fraud issue. They are now stating it may take up until XX/XX/XXXX to resolve the claim. They have put a pending hold on over {$2000.00} of my funds in my checking account. I am XXXX, live on social security and Ive had NO MONEY at all for over XXXX weeks. They have prevented me from being able to even pay my basic bills like water and electric, or buy food or gas. I also went to my bank, XXXX, and filed a claim against the fraud charge. It has been over a week and Ive not heard anything from my bank. Ive done some research and discovered that this issue, of fraudulent ACH purchases has become a widespread problem. What infuriates me is neither Paypal nor my bank contacted me in any way to verify that I made the purchase. Banks have no way to stop ACH online holds or transfers of funds. If I use my debit card in store, and there are not enough funds in my account to cover a purchase, the purchase will be declined for insufficient funds. In my case, as I only had about {$500.00} in my account at the time of the fraud, it put my account over {$1600.00} in the red- with no access to my funds or incoming deposits since XX/XX/XXXX, like my social security deposit. Paypal has since prevented me from contacting them by email or phone. I did previously send them notes alerting them to the situation and asking them to please expedite my fraud claim- but I now have no way to contact anyone to inquire about the claim. As an ecommerce seller myself, the rules of Paypal are clear. A seller can not ship to an unauthorized or unconfirmed Paypal address or the seller does not get paid. I have the XXXX tracking number and address the seller shipped to, to confirm the seller violated Paypal rules. The seller shipped a {$2000.00} computer to an old dump of a shack in XXXX that is no where near where I live. I am desperate to resolve this issue as Paypal is not communicating with me. * As an ecommerce seller myself online since XXXX, if a buyer makes a purchase on my website, credit card or Paypal, I require a phone number. If the purchase is over {$100.00}, I call them. If I can not reach them by phone, I do not ship. If I can reach them by phone, I put their address in XXXX XXXX. I look at the neighborhood and ask the buyer, is that a church or a school across the street from you? Or a restaurant or a gas station? When they ask why Im asking these strange questions, I reply that I am protecting their security to make sure no one has made a fraudulent purchase with a stolen credit card. A scammer will not be able to answer those questions. In my case, the case is clear. The seller was so eager to get {$2000.00}, he failed to abide by the most basic of Paypal policies : To never ship to an unconfirmed address. In my experience I have learned that all unconfirmed address orders on Paypal are in fact fraud. My only personal and business address can also be confirmed in XXXX XXXX XXXX for XXXX XXXX XXXX and at my website XXXX
