Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer
Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled
Consumer Complaint: When I started to repay theses loans years ago I was encouraged to make interest only payments. It was described to me that I would be paying down a set amount of interest and when I could later afford to make higher payments, the interest owed would be paid down and I would be making payments towards the principal. Long story short, I was misled into believing I was paying down a predetermined set amount of interest. I am still paying a great deal of interest. Over the years I have paid around {$10000.00} in payments and today I owe more than I ever borrowed!

Consumer Complaint: Refinanced existing student loan through XXXX XXXX. Never received proper communication on the process. Suddenly completed. When repeatedly called to inquire on amount to pay : Told in XXXX that nothing will be due in XXXX. Followed what they said. ( Had an unrelated problem with personal checking account ... .fraud. So had to close personal checking and open a new one. In process, a payment to Navient was returned. ). Constantly called to resolve all outstanding amount. On XX/XX/19, Navient advised me to pay {$500.00} installment plus {$830.00} past due. Both payments posted XX/XX/19. Received no less than 6 phone calls yesterday ( XX/XX/19 ). Answered when free and told I am still in arrears. Put on hold and no one ever came back on the line. I feel that Navient is being devious. They tell me first to pay nothing for a month or two. Then they tell me I am in arrears and so in forbearance. I pay all that I am told to pay to avoid forbearance. Six days later, they are calling me again claiming I am in forbearance.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX my loan was sold to Navient from SallieMae. Like many others struggling to pay loans, I entered into Interest only repayment for the maximum time allowed by Navient. Following the end of the Interest Only repayment period, beginning XX/XX/XXXX until XX/XX/XXXX, payments that I made in the amount of {$410.00} were distributed to my loan in such a way that there was no consistency with the amounts paid towards interest and principal from month to month. One example : XX/XX/XXXX Payment made : {$410.00} Applied to Interest : {$160.00} Applied to Principal : {$250.00} XX/XX/XXXX Payment made : {$410.00} Applied to Interest : {$410.00} Applied to Principal : {$0.00} XX/XX/XXXX Payment made : {$410.00} Applied to Interest : {$100.00} Applied to Principal : {$300.00} This continued until XX/XX/XXXX when I once again had to enter into Interest Only repayment ; the only option that I was told was available to me in order to be able to pay my loan.

Consumer Complaint: XXXX ripped me off. The made me believe that my total debt for the school loan would be {$40000.00}. Considering that I earned an XXXX and a XXXX XXXX that I owed less than {$17000.00} on, I thought that the {$40000.00} would not be bad due to the fact that I did not have excessive student loan debt. As a single woman and a XXXX I strongly considered the loan amount/debt. XXXX continued to encourage me to take out loans and they took forever to get through the dissertation process. This school is a money pit. The closer I got to depletion my funds for a loan the school decided to concoct a story staing that I had plagerised. I was near the end of the program. Why would I purposely do such a thing? I would not. I went to a hearing to let the school know that I was ill and had been in the emergency room the week of the XXXX Exam ( which is what they said I cheated on ). I showed them the documentation. According to my credit report my student loan balance is over {$400000.00}. As a single XXXX I would never put myself in harms way like this. This student loan debt on my credit report is preventing me from living. I am unable to secure a loan for a home or car. It ; s stopped me from doing many things. To make matters worse, I did not even attain a degree from this school. XXXX XXXX robbed me and I want my money back.

Consumer Complaint: Applied for income based renewal within the time frame giving them at least 2 weeks to process it before it returned to the whole amount. I have it in automatic payments and this last payment they took the entire amount of {$670.00}. This caused an overdraft of my account and they will not return the payment.

Consumer Complaint: I have in the past attempted to contact Navient concerning my student loans with mostly negative results. I am now convinced that unfortunately this company is in the business of making money off of student loan debt at all cost and not fairly providing resources to assist individuals with loan repayments. I recently tried again before filing this complaint to contact Navient on XX/XX/XXXX to get information concerning 3 private loans : Loan XXXX XXXX XXXX, Loan XXXX XXXX XXXX, and Loan XXXX XXXX XXXX. I asked the representative if I could have in writing an explanation of late fees charged as well as when they claimed I fell behind in payments. The representative could not or would not provide that information, but instead wanted to read me a threatening statement that one of the loans would become delinquent. I have been provided no information regarding the process of delinquency or what triggers it or how many payments late you have to miss to become delinquent. In addition, I was told I could make a " good faith payment '' of XXXX dollars on one of the loans. Even though I feel that the loan has been mishandled, and have not received any explanation for the current late fees, I did in fact make the payment. As far back as XX/XX/XXXX or XXXX ( again unable to get Navient to do an honest review of my account history so not sure of exact date ) I gave a financial statement and I agreed to a payment plan specifically for the private loans in question which I was told would absorb all the late fees and the representative at the time stated that my loans would become current. I continued to make payments with no issues until they ended the repayment plan with no explanation. I have attempted to get an understanding as to why a payment plan that was working was ended and Navient has been unwilling to provide a reason. Almost immediately the loans became late again which if they had been made current and I was making payments why would they automatically be late with fees owed? A portion of the private loans in questions, I have paid and brought current ( again with unexplained fees and late payment amounts ) which there again speaks to my consistency with making monthly payments. I have a consistent record of making payments, and the private loans are the only loans that have continued to be mishandled. I have reason to believe that Navient could be deliberately trying to force me to default on a private loan in order to take legal action against me in a retaliatory move given the hostile communications I have had with them. The company is extremely abusive in it's practices which includes nonstop calls and harassment by representatives. It is clear that Navient, in it's desperation to exploit loan borrowers and recoup money off their debt, encourage their representatives to be abusive and to strong arm individuals into repayment plans that only benefit Navient but are an unreasonable burden on the borrower. They have no interest in working with borrower, but have a predetermined approach to pursue in each case. In addition, I believe Navient deliberately withheld information concerning loan repayment options, and has attempted to coerce me into providing information about my financial situation to exploit me financially. I have also experienced abuse from the call representatives who use financial threats but refuse to provide details about loans. Navient has continued to claim that they want to assist the individual with loan repayments, but they offer no substantial or flexible opportunities to do so. Navient clearly believes that they can continue to get away with these predatory practices. I can not speak for all loan borrowers, but I have proven that I have every intention to pay my student loan debt. I am filing this complaint against Navient due to it's extremely unethical behavior and it's lack of transparency concerning their handling of my private student loans.

Consumer Complaint: At the beginning of the month I agreed to participate in a payment payment plan to prevent my account from defaulting. On XX/XX/XXXX due to an error in my original payment I agreed to pay XXXX dollars towards a forbearance that would prevent the default. The payment plan was agreed to pay XXXX a month for three months consecutively. I received an approval letter on the XXXX of XXXX for the forbearance. Not until the XXXX was I notified that there was an issue with the payment. Apparently my bank rejected the check however my bank stated they have no record of this payment coming through. Now navient is refusing to give me the forbearance after taking my card payment for XXXX dollars. Stating that I will have to pay XXXX plus XXXX in order to stop my account from defaulting. I am barely able to make the monthly payments and now because of an error on there part that they admitted to now my credit will be affected. Follow up XX/XX/XXXX XXXX from consumers affairs After forbearance was approved on XX/XX/XXXX and removal of the charge back. Associate with in the Department of consumer affairs told me that a representative from the payment arrangement department would you get in contact with me with in a week after this for marr A associate with the Department of consumer affairs told me that a representative from loan department will contact me to set up the payment plan. On XX/XX/XXXX I made a call to the payment department and they stated they did not have my charge-back. They stated they would be in contact with me in the following coming weeks to set up the payment plan. I never received a phone call or an email in regards to this payment plan. Nor was I told that in order to keep my account positive I needed to make the payment plan before the end of XXXX. I have a call log and messages to confirm when I am stating. On XX/XX/XXXX, My cosigner received a letter of default. I in fact have not received any letter or email stating that I was going back into charge back. How is this possible I did everything right yet Navient continues to ruin my credit?

Consumer Complaint: I am a Navient customer. Since XXXX of 2018, I have filed 3 income driven repayment plans. Currently, my monthly repayment plan is still at {$870.00} a month. Navient is not being cooperative with my needs. I am in the mean time going to apply to have my loans consolidated through the federal loan servicing. I need my voice to be heard this is very frustrating and not necessary. Thank you for your time!

Consumer Complaint: Original borrow ended XX/XX/2012. Estimated total debt +/- {$38000.00}. Total initial consolidation at that time was {$76000.00}. I fought with Navient about this, they would not budge. I filed a XXXX complaint and they credited +/- {$11000.00} due to a disbursement to the school that was returned. However they still double consolidated the total loan amounts!! I have been attempting to fight with them all along. I have filed numerous complaints and have gotten now where. I have paid, relatively diligently since and have currently paid in +/- XXXX. I know there is interest in there to pay back. Navient still has me listed as owing XXXX. 1. Even if I did owe XXXX minus the XXXX credit, total XXXX - after paying in XXXX, how is my balance only decreased by XXXX?!!! 2. I do not owe this massive amount and have paid for over 7 years on this loan without a decrease in balance. 3. I can not get the balance due corrected! 4. Lawyers tell me that I am beyond the 3 year contract law discovery since I flied with the XXXX. What do I do??
