Issue: Struggling to repay your loan
Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments
Consumer Complaint: Starting on XX/XX/XXXX, I called to lower my loan payment. After being on hold for 20 minutes, I was able to speak with a representative. She was fairly rude and short with me when I asked to lower my payment plan based on my income. She garenteed me that they will send me papers in the mail, after I had asked for via email documents instead. She said she could only send it on paper through the mail because it was about 20 papers for me to sign and read. I said to myself this is rediculous and illegal. All I wanted was the paperwork sent through via email so I could quickly fill them out and turn them back in before my next assigned payment due date on XX/XX/XXXX. Still to this day ( XXXX ) I have not received any papers from navient in the mail. Monday XXXX I called Navient, and got ahold of an representative and directly asked to speak to a supervisor during this call. The news she gave me was false and once again illegal. She told me that my account number and all my information I had given her indicated that I was not in Navients system. She asked to transfer me over to the Department of Education and speak with one of their representatives. I complied and when I was transferred I was on hold for 35 minutes and decided to hang up. When my sister calls about her loan the same day ( her loan is also with navient ) they seem to answer her hold call right away and she is able to speak with a representative within 5 minutes of being on hold. How is this possible. I thought to myself something shadey is going on with Navient and realized they are putting me on hold on purpose in order to avoid contact with me. The 2nd time I called the same exact thing happened again, telling me that my information is not showing up in there system and keep transferring me to Dep. Of Education while on hold for 40 minutes again I decided to hang up and call back. After this incident happened over and over again I had my sister call and put in her account number just to speak to a representative and once again they said Im not in the system and transfered me to department of education for the 4th time and left me on hold for 45 minutes this time. At this point I had spent half of my day trying to get ahold of a representative to figure out what was going on with my account. I almost lost it that day from frustration so I decided to call again the next morning. Tuesday the XXXX I called about XXXX and had the same exact experience from the previous day. This time when I called it was a 40 minute wait time the automated recording said. It gave me an option to either press 1-to make a call back appointment or press 2-do not make appointment and if you didnt press 1 it would disconnect your call. I pressed 1 and make a call back appointment for XXXX the same day. Well guess what? They never called me back. In fact when XXXX came around I decided to call again. When I called the same thing happened. The automated voice told me it was high wait time at 40 minutes. After that I pretty much gave up calling and this is when I decided to write this complaint towards the loan company Navient! I hope who ever reads this understands how frustrating this experience has been and when I am able to financially afford a lawyer I will sue them with all I have. Thanks for your time and support. Have a great day. Sincerely, Your Victim of Navient

Consumer Complaint: Receiving MULTIPLE calls a day from Navient about my 'debt. ' I have no account with them. They are clearly looking for someone -else-, however they leave no reference to the name or account number in question. When I called to try and deal with the situation ( twice ), they tell me they can't stop calling because I only have my phone number as a reference ; they required a name or account number. I tell them they aren't LEAVING a name or account number in their twice ( or more ) daily calls, and ... silence. I asked for a manager ; they say one will call me back ( which didn't happen ). They call multiple times a day from different numbers ; I am a professor and I have to open these voice mails over and over to see who is calling me and ensure it isn't a student who needs my attention. This is harassment at this point. I even tried writing a Cease and Desist letter to their corporate headquarters, which was then returned as undeliverable.

Consumer Complaint: XX/XX/XXXX & XXXX XXXX XXXX lies to me stating Navients 3rd party admin Minnesota/XXXX denied my XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX claim. When I requested the denial documents from Navient they ignored my emails. XX/XX/XXXX I received correspondence from Navient stating unlike federal student loans, private student loans are not entitled to discharge in the event that a customer becomes XXXX XXXX. XXXX & XXXX I repeatedly requested payment assistance due to me being XXXX with no income and was mislead me into short term payment option, instead of long term solutions. XX/XX/XXXX I applied to have co-signer removed and was denied because of financial & credit challenges. Navient never notified me of the requirements or my eligibility to release co-signer, when I was repaying on time with perfect credit.

Consumer Complaint: For a long time I was pushed into applying for a forbearance by Navient. It was only a few years ago that I was told about an income driven repayment plan. I was told to make 3 payments and it would make me eligible for low monthly payments. I made those 3 payments and only then was I told about income based repayment. I've been on that program for a few years now and although my payments have been {$0.00} I've noticed recently on my credit report that my balance on these 3 federal student loans varies by thousands each month. My balance will go up from {$1000.00} to over {$5000.00} and then will go back down. I have only recently started monitoring my credit report so I'm not sure how long this has been going on. Its devastating my credit score and making me wonder what is really going on and am I being used for fraud or something else illegal. I took these loans out almost 10 years ago and have had no help until a few years ago with a payment plan to pay them off. I've accrued so much interest the loan amount has almost doubled and that's ridiculous for a diploma that I cant even use.

Consumer Complaint: I was never informed that making consecutive payments under the IBR plan can lead to forgiveness after 10 years. If that was the case then I would have certainly signed up for the automated payments and continued applying for IBR plans every year as needed. I used to get phone calls reminding of payments being due and that has since stopped so I'm unsure of where I'm at in the process, I have usually been doing 2-3 payments at once instead of monthly - again because I did not have this information. I am only told they don't report to the credit bureau 's monthly for the way my payments have been. So it's not affecting my credit score which is nice but it would be fantastic if my loans were forgiven instead. They are quite substantial and don't seem to be going down with all my payments thus far.

Consumer Complaint: I pursued a XXXX degree in XXXX and graduated on XX/XX/XXXX with my XXXX Degree in XXXX. By XX/XX/XXXX, I had a stable XXXX job and had been faithfully paying Navient at least $ XXXX monthly payment. In XX/XX/XXXX, I started out with a total loan amount of {$21000.00}. For the next 2 years, my loan amount hovered at $ XXXX-XXXX despite my monthly payments. By the time I was finally approved for a refinace with XXXX in XX/XX/XXXX, my total loan amount was still {$21000.00}. I found this so hard to believe that 2 years of monthly payments hardly lowered my loan! I've included an XXXX spreadsheet that I downloaded from their website after digging hard to find how they allocated my payment to interests vs principal. In XX/XX/XXXX, they sent me a student loan interest tax form that said I paid {$13000.00} interest, which they must mean for the life of the loan and not just XX/XX/XXXX. I am not able to deduct any of this for filing my XX/XX/XXXX taxes because my AGI is now above 80,000 as a XXXX XXXX XXXX. I worked really hard as a night shift XXXX XXXX and pursuing my XXXX for an XXXX career while making these payments to Navient. Navient has done a great disservice to me and countless other students ( from reading other complaints and reports ) by misallocating my payments and keeping me at high interest rates so that my >2 years worth of monthly payments doesn't amount to anything. I am just happy that I finally was able to transfer my student loan to XXXX. I've attached my XX/XX/XXXX Navient tax form and the XXXX spreadsheet from Navient.

Consumer Complaint: Navient continues to increase the interest rate on the loan that they purchased from XXXX XXXX XXXX. On XX/XX/XXXX Navient began to service the loan that they had purchased from XXXX XXXX XXXX. My average payment was around {$110.00}. The interest rate continued to increase and the payment is increasing as well. The current interest rate for the loan is 9.25 %, however there is a rate reduction for the amount being automatically taken out of my bank account, making the interest rate 8.25 %. My payment has increased to over {$130.00} per month and the loan amount does not decrease with every payment. As of XX/XX/XXXX ( when Navient purchased the loan ), I owed {$12000.00}. As of XX/XX/XXXX, i still owe {$12000.00}. In nearly a year, I have managed to pay off {$300.00} of the loan, however I have paid, in total, {$1100.00} - {$850.00} to interest alone. I contacted Navient to attempt to lower the interest rate, however they said they already did with the reduction through autopay. Navient said they will not lower the rate any further and that I should expect to pay the loan for another 30 years. Navient told me that if I wanted to lower my amount due, to pay more to the principle of the loan, money that is not available due to having other living expenses. Navient did not have any other options for me to reduce my payment, reduce my interest rate, and had no other options to help me. They are very predatory and are taking advantage of borrowers by purchasing loans from other companies and servicing them, offering no assistance or relief to borrowers.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX 2019..I called Navient to get my account up to date. My past due amount was Due XXXX 2019. I explained to XXXX XXXX that I would pay the XXXX past due amount in three payments. I made a {$100.00} dollar payment with her over the phone and received an email confirmation. I called in on XX/XX/XXXX make the next {$100.00} dollars. I was told they didnt have any record of my payment. They researched and found out that XXXX XXXX made the payment through the wrong system. My money went to another whole company and they didnt have any control over it. I spoke with XXXX XXXX ( supervisor ) and he said that it would take them a month to return my money to me. I explained to him that I didnt have an extra {$100.00} dollars to give and I wouldnt receive in time to put back to account so I wouldnt receive a late fee for XXXX he wasnt willing to help at all

Consumer Complaint: Over {$150000.00} in student loans and the amount keeps adding up. The interest is killing me and every time I asked for a deferment or some extra time they but my loans on forbearance and charged me interest.
