Issue: Struggling to repay your loan
Subissue: Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan
Consumer Complaint: I Have called numerous of time to get my student loans lowered and to get my co-signer removed. Navient customer service representatives told my mother and my self that if I make consistent payments for one year that they would remove her off my account. Secondly I have also tried to qualify for hardship or get my private student loans lowered and they have not offered any alternatives. My payments continue to go up because I did not realize I signed up for a variable interest rate program. Both my interest rate continue to rise one is at 11.750 % interest rate and my second one is at 10.50 %. I have the money debited out of my account every month to qualify for the .25 % saving but my principal account balance has not gone down. With my XXXX XXXX now coming up for payment I can no longer afford these ridiculous high payments. and on one of my loans show that it has been sold and it looks like they have added more interest onto the principle on XX/XX/2018 of {$150.00} with a principle of {$22.00} which totaled {$22000.00}. I feel like i have been misled on trying to remove my co-signer and the interest rates keep going up therefore moving the needle on me every time I get closer to making the payments on the principle. PLEASE HELP!

Subissue: Keep getting calls about your loan
Consumer Complaint: Navient ( formerly Sallie Mae ) has been contacting my family members and friends regarding my account and I have no idea how they obtained their personal information. I believe this to be a violation of personal information, not only for me, but especially for those who are now being contacted on behalf of Navient. When I applied for/obtained the student loans while attending University, I only included my own personal information and never referenced any of these individuals at any point. Thus far, two family members and my boyfriend have reported that they received calls from a Navient representative today ( XX/XX/2019 ) requesting to speak about my account. The incoming number that displayed on their phones was : XXXX and the callback number they were provided was : XXXX ( along with a reference number ). If need be, I can share screenshots of the messages I received from them notifying me of the " odd calls. '' At this time, I am refraining from sharing them because their personal names/details are viewable and I do not want to risk further exposure for any of them. I have never shared personal details associated with either of these family members nor have I ever shared any personal details related to my friend. Of the two family members that were contacted, only one shares the same last name as myself which has led to further confusion regarding how Navient obtained their personal information. Additionally, both live in a US state that is not associated with my previous residence/University and we only keep in contact through social media/email ; not even I had their personal numbers. I thought it might be possible that Navient is obtaining their information via my XXXX social media account ( although I have it set to " Private '' at the highest level ), however, it would not explain how they obtained my boyfriend 's information since he does not have any online social media accounts and he intentionally avoids sharing personal information ( especially contact details ) online. Based on the information that has been relayed to me by these three, Navient contacted the first family member ( same last name as myself ) and then contacted the other ( different last name ) approximately 30 seconds later. It is not clear to me yet as to when they called my boyfriend ( he notified me via text message that they contacted him while he was at work ), nor is it clear as to who else they may have tried calling to discuss my account. Again, I am extremely concerned as to how Navient obtained personal details of individuals whose information has not been shared with them before. I called Navient via the provided callback number during business hours, however, I was unable to successfully get them to address this. When I made contact with a customer service representative and began discussing the occurrence, they informed me that they were transferring me to a different department, and then the call disconnected. I tried calling them three different times only to experience the same disconnect.

Consumer Complaint: I have 2 accounts from Navient showing on my XXXX credit report. I had a loan with Sallie Mae which they sold to Navient. These are personal student loans not federal which is why they are not consolidated with my other student loans. I had filed chapter XXXX bankruptcy in XX/XX/XXXX and discharged in XX/XX/XXXX. These loans were included in the bankruptcy but still show on my credit report. The Sallie Mae loans are gone but the Navient loan still show and it's hurting me getting a mortgage.

Consumer Complaint: Up until 2 years ago I was never shown an option for IDR. My loans were always in deferment, which was the only option aside from forbearance that was ever offered. So for 8 years I was continually being charged interest. I researched on my own and found the IDR. I applied and obviously was approved. I didn't start working until 3 years ago. So the first 7 years my income was {$0.00}. Now I owe around $ 2k MORE THAN my original loan, 10+years ago.

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled
Consumer Complaint: I have twice made large payments. I called and made payments over phone to tell them specifically how to pay the loan once i verified payment amounts. Both times after i paid off loans there was overpayments that were redirected in a way beneficial only to the loan company. First there should have been no overpayment because i called and verified the amount i needed to pay. Second I was not asked how to direct any overpayment. The response from Navient was that there was a way ( well hidden on the website ) where you could select the options for overpayment. The links for this area to select options are impossible to find.

Consumer Complaint: Was coerced into taking a large private loan over and above tuition costs for " living expenses '' I paid my loan on time for over a decade following graduation and none of my principal debts went down. All of it was applied to interest - all of which is detailed in the current class action lawsuits pending against Navient. I called them and asked for a more favorable interest rate or a different plan to help me to manage my bills and was told there were no options.

Consumer Complaint: I have been unfairly directed into forbearance and deferment for years while I could have qualified for income driven repayment. Navient knowingly and intentionally steered me toward forbearance and deferment instead of making me aware of more suited methods of repayment. I have over 7 years of foreberance and deferments during which time I would have qualified for IDR and during which I have been negatively effected by negative credit reporting and delinquencies. My loans were predatorily directed in the most profitable manner while neglecting my best interests. Please inform me of the best course of action.

Consumer Complaint: I consolidated my loans through Navient, after being told I could apply for PSLF through them. During several financial hardships during the mid XX/XX/XXXX and again during my divorce during XX/XX/XXXX-XX/XX/XXXX, I was advised by Navient to defer and/or place my loans in forebearance. The original principal was {$55000.00} ( Consolidated XX/XX/XXXX ) and {$7900.00} ( Consolidated XX/XX/XXXX ). In XX/XX/XXXX I was told my Navient that I could not apply for student loan foregiveness thru them. At that time, I consolidated my Navient Loans with XXXX XXXX XXXX. My total balance is now in excess of {$110000.00}. I will never be able to pay these off.

Consumer Complaint: This company violated not only my trust but the law multiple times but the most recent event occurred on or around XX/XX/2019. On this date I received one of the many calls from Navient in regards to my private student loan. I spoke to a female representative in total around 30-40 min. I asked very specific questions in regards to bringing my loan current, and because of the the representatives response to those questions I decided to enter a payment plan. I paid a total of {$230.00} though the phone that day. A few days later ( After payment ) I realized responses to those questions were incorrect, misleading, and flat out lies. To name a few, 1. One I paid my account would automatically be brought current, and would be reported to credit bureaus. ( turned out to just be misleading information given in order to collect payment ) In reality it would only be brought current after 3 payments 2. The payment I was making would cover all my loans ( minus Federal ones ) including the ones connected to a co signer. ( Again Lies ) I was initially outraged by the blatant misrepresentation. I contacted Navients ' consumer advocate department as well as sent a letter outlying misleading acts to XXXX XXXX ( XXXX ). No response from XXXX ( as expected ) but the consumer advocate department reviewed the call and agreed that I had been given false information in order to collect the debt. But told me there was nothing they would do. I am very familiar with the FDCPA. I know that Navient is clearly in violation. I have gone through them to correct their mistake and they refuse. My problem is that I am concerned that they could be doing this to thousands of other loan holders.
