Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer
Subissue: Don't agree with the fees charged
Consumer Complaint: I had student loans via Sallie Mae, and now Navient took over. I am a XXXX XXXX XXXX in a XXXX XXXX building where ALL XXXX receive free lunch. I would hav qualified for all of my loans to be removed due to meeting all the qualifications for XXXX Loan Forgiveness. I have never been a day late and they charge 8.25 % daily interest rate. I will have paid over {$500000.00} in the end for an {$85000.00} loan. This is CRIMINAL in my eyes and in the eyes of many! Due to Sallie Mae/Navient being a private lender I was informed on 3 occasions that I don't qualify for the forgiveness. They refuse to work with you to lower interest rate also.

Consumer Complaint: I contacted XXXX XXXX XXXX ( XXXX ) to inquire about my student loan debt, but they could not prove the amount. I asked for paperwork and it took a long time for them to supply it. In addition, a large portion was fees that were owed was payable to their company. In addition, in XX/XX/XXXX they agreed to forgo wage garnishment until I validated the debt. I received a notice of cancellation of garnishment in XX/XX/XXXXbut a notice of wage garnishment in XX/XX/XXXX. This is not enough time to research a decades-long debt. I was told to send an email to XXXX and I did. They stated that they received no such email. Finally, they did not offer any reasonable repayment amount as I am recovering from XXXX and I only have a part-time XXXX XXXX position.

Consumer Complaint: In XX/XX/2018 I completed the application for Public Service Loan Forgiveness ( PSFL ). I completed more than 10 years of employment with a qualifying nonprofit and made the required 120 payments. During the 10 years I reached out to my loan servicer ( Navient - Sallie Mae ) to make sure my loans were the right kind of loans and were eligible for PSLF. Each time I was told yes and given assurances that as soon as I completed 10 years, the loans would be forgiven because they were Federal Loans. My application for PSLF was declined because my loans are in the wrong classification. Navient apologized for giving me incorrect information 4 different times and said I could consolidate my loans again and restart the process of 10 years of employment with a nonprofit and 120 more qualifying payments. Navient knowingly committed fraud, and said they are unwilling to correctly classify the loans because that would be considered admitting fault which could make them liable for the loan balance. The have decided instead to call me every day with excuses. This is unacceptable. I understand why the Attorneys General for so many States are suing Navient for fraud.

Consumer Complaint: My XXXX career was exclusively funded by student loans. I was never counseled with regards to the number of loans I was taking, career choices, and possible earning potential. When I graduated, I deferred those loans until I got settled into a job and decided what my next steps were. I eventually decided to pursue a XXXX XXXX Degree in XXXX. On top of having to take some additional XXXX coursework, my XXXXXXXX XXXX was also funded by loans. I eventually got a XXXX job in an urban district where I thought, after 5 years, I would have {$17.00} of my {$130000.00} loan balance forgiven. Well- I was wrong. I had consolidated some of my loans, and that. in conjunction with the dates, some of my loans had been taken out, made me ineligible for student loan forgiveness. To add insult to injury, I have since been laid off from XXXX, and found other work, but have been deferring my loans. My husband makes a decent living but will no contribute towards my student loans. Yet his income disqualifies me for the option of an income-based repayment plan and my minimum payment works out to be over {$900.00} per month, which with XXXX kids, and numerous expenses I can't afford. At this rate, the interest accrues, I continue to defer and have no idea how I will ever get out from under all of this debt and start saving for my own kids future.

Consumer Complaint: I make {$100.00} payments to my loan on a weekly basis. And they are applying my payment to a loan that was closed years ago and not the active loan with over 7 % interest. This is the second time that this has happened. And every time it does I am being caused to pay more money as the interest on the other loans that are active and actually have a balance are accruing on top of each other. This is ridiculous that I am losing money because they can't apply payments correctly.

Consumer Complaint: When trying to use Navient 's website and contact the organization or obtain forms they state are necessary for requests, one is returned to the sign in screen ( and is logged out ), and then when one signs in again, one is sent to the home screen. There is no evident way to actually send communication to Navient. When calling their number, I waited for 20 minutes -- -after being told the wait is two -- -and having never spoken to a representative, I was auto-switched to the post-call survey. I uploaded a letter from my educational institution using the function on Navient 's website to show that I am fully enrolled for the Spring semester. Upon receiving it, Navient notified me that they need proof that I am enrolled and have no such proof. The ironic thing is that what triggered this statement is the very upload I gave with the information. I have spent a day of my life trying to do a simple thing, request a loan deferment because I am enrolled in school after taking a semester off. Their website offers endless cycles and no help. If they are profiting off of my interest, the least they could do is provide an actual human being to speak to.

Consumer Complaint: I begin paying back a {$22000.00} student loan in XX/XX/XXXX. I paid 75 months of {$140.00} ( total {$11000.00} ) ; 47 months at {$71.00} ( total {$3400.00} ) ; 24 months of {$100.00} ( total {$2500.00} ) ; and one payment of {$300.00} for a total of {$17000.00} to SallieMae/Navient. The interest is suppose to be 4.875 %. Over the past 13 years I have never missed any payments and pay on time monthly through direct debit. On this day XX/XX/XXXX, I still owe {$16000.00} on a {$22000.00} loan that I have paid {$17000.00}. Only {$6000.00} of the {$17000.00} that I have paid has gone to the principle and {$11000.00} has gone to the interest. How is this legal and ethical. I am XXXX years old and will go to my grave before this is ever paid off. I have looked at my current payment plan ( all I can afford ) and The payment will triple in XX/XX/XXXX and be paid off in XX/XX/XXXX with a grand total of {$35000.00} being paid back for a {$22000.00} loan.
