Issue: Struggling to repay your loan
Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments
Consumer Complaint: In XX/XX/XXXX I began the re-certification process for my Income Based Repayment Plan. I submitted a re-certification through the department of education website and indicated that my AGI as reflected in my tax returns were not reflective of my income. I did not fill out the form the right way, apparently and it was rejected. I tried to re-fill it out but I received another letter indicating I was not in the period to re-certify so my application was rejected. I subsequently rectified the issue with my original application and on XX/XX/XXXX received a letter from Navient indicating that my IBR request was granted through XX/XX/XXXX and that my payment would be {$190.00} going forward. I began making my payments of {$190.00} in XX/XX/XXXX. ( See email ). In XX/XX/XXXX I received a letter from Navient indicating my payments were scheduled to go up dramatically, to almost {$800.00} per month, despite the fact that I was already in the program and not scheduled to re-certify. I was on the phone for an extended period of time with Navient during which time they indicated that because I allowed the IRS to link to the Department of Education my XXXX tax returns showing our joint AGI, they were changing my payment amount. They have since asked me to again re-submit an application with explanation of my income. This is despite the fact that the letter dated XX/XX/XXXX clearly indicates that the decision to grant the program was based on my representation that, despite the tax return, that I indicated on my application that I was " married with no access to spouse 's income. '' This is the second time in the last year I have been inappropriately removed from the IBR program early. The first time I had to call and I was placed back on. This time, however, Navient has refused and asked for me to re-certify again despite the fact that I have already re-certified through XX/XX/XXXX.

Consumer Complaint: I emailed Navient about my loan which I started paying back in XX/XX/XXXX. The original loan amount was {$6700.00} and now, 10 years later, my loan amount is still {$5900.00}. I make my monthly payments and after 10 years of paying it is still that much? So, after emailing them, I got a response in the form of a letter. My middle initial was wrong, my loan number was wrong, they said that I defaulted on two loans in the year XX/XX/XXXX, which I was in the 6th grade in year XX/XX/XXXX, and they say that they no longer handle my loans. They are telling me that my loans are now being handled by XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX and my information is no longer on Navient.com. I am able to look up my information on Navient and I have been making payments on Navient.com. Please advise me on what to do???

Consumer Complaint: Noticed inaccurate information regarding a student loan I had with Salie Mae. XX/XX/XXXX requested loan documents.Called into customer service and was told I will be mailed original copy of signed agreement showing amount and interest rate. XX/XX/XXXX followed up on original request of loan documents. Provided address. Was told it was submitted but not all the way. XX/XX/XXXX followed up on 2nd request of loan documents. Was told documents were sent out XXXX. Said they did not have complete address missing unit #. Again provided complete address had employee confirm address by reading it back. Let her know if i do not receive the documents within 14 business days starting from today I will file a written complaint with the ombudsman and after that I will need to take legal action. Have only received " Notice of Loan Guarantee & Disclosure Statement. I have requested a number of times the original documents and Navient has been unable to furnish this request. Instead will send a statement. Loan ID # XXXX This has been a problem that I have been unable to resolve through their customer service department. No matter how many times I called and representatives I was escalated to I was never provided documentation of the loan commitment other than a printed statement of the loan. I was unable to move forward at that time and put the issue and payments on hold. I recently found out about CFPB and hope that this can resolve my issue.

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled
Consumer Complaint: My loan is with Navient. When I was financially stable I set up a generous monthly auto-payment plan ( {$170.00} ) to lower my overall debt and keep interest down. I paid this amount for several months, but when I enrolled in school gain I turned off the autopayment and went into deferment until I finish school. Despite canceling the autopayment I was still billed. Their last withdraw put my account into the negative. I called the company, they said autopayment had been deactivated, and after i prompted them to look at my recent payment history they acknowledged their fault and said that they would refund the money, which they never did. This happened several times, I even deleted my debit card from my navient account payment methods and was STILL billed. They give me the same story each time : Navient : You are not on autopayment Me : Then please review the recent payment on my account Navient : Ah, I see. That is strange. We will resolve this and refund your money. Me : I will not be billed again, correct? Navient : Correct, we apologize for the inconvenience, I dont know how this happened. The last time I asked for a written document stating I will not be billed, which they said would arrive here by the XXXX ( call was on the XXXX ) today is the XXXX and I have not received a formal letter or refund.
