Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan

Consumer Complaint: Date : XX/XX/XXXX Amounts : None Actions : I spoke to a representative at the beginning of XXXX. ( Sorry I don't have a specific date for that conversation ) They indicated that I did not have to make a payment until XX/XX/XXXX. I asked them if they were sure and they said yes, that they were completely sure. To call back after that date to restart my payment plan. Not even two weeks later I received 4 letters ( one for each of my loans ) stating that my bankruptcy was closed and repayment was to start immediately. That was the purpose of my call on XX/XX/XXXX. I called the number that was at the bottom of the letter ( which apparently after waiting on hold for 10 + minutes was the incorrect number, that was for federal loans not private. So they transferred me to the private loan department. They indicated that yes I was back in repayment. When I explained to them about what I explained above the representative didn't even care at all she said, and I quote " Well, anyways. '' And continued to ask me for a payment. I explained that I was on a repayment plan. She stated that she had to transfer me over to another department that handles that, and that she was going to notate the account so I would have to give my information all over again to the next representative that I spoke with. She transferred me, and the next rep that I spoke with asked for my info. And when I stated that the previous rep said she was going to notate the account so I wouldn't have to give my information, he said that they don't do that and not sure why she would tell me that. He then stated that he deals with accounts that are past due ( mine wasn't ) and that he would have to transfer me over. Again his attitude was that of not caring at all. He transferred me over to the final rep that I spoke with who was kind and finally got me take care of. He didn't have an answer for the misinformation that I received either. Here is my main complaint. Navient doesn't seem to care at all about the customer. This is only one example of incorrect information that they have given me over the past several years. They can treat the customer any way they see fit and with no repercussions at all. I feel helpless and completely taken advantage of.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled

Consumer Complaint: While attempting to get approved for deferments or income based repayments in XXXX, Navient, my loan servicer would not properly calculate my income. I sent over verification from my employer, XXXX ( a XXXX based company with head quarters in XXXX XXXX for verification purposes ). I self certified, and tried many processes to get the payments reduced or halted for some time so that I could catch up with other obligations. Because my account was setup for Auto-Pay, I suffered greatly with the large withdrawal amounts that were greatly in excess of the 15 % discretionary income limits. My proven yearly income for the entire year was {$24000.00}. I continually relayed details to the company that I only made {$24000.00} per year. You will see that the amounts they charged me fluctuated greatly from month to month. Some months nothing came out as I was promised a deferment during a phone call and then the next month, a large payment was withdrawn. Why would I pay {$410.00} in XXXX and then jump to {$630.00} in XXXX. It was impossible to control the payments and to balance my income due to Navient. My credit suffered and dropped 150 points as I used up more available credit on credit cards to float other payments and to pay for my needs. Please see the payment history that was auto withdrawn by Navient 's calculations in XXXX. XXXX - {$200.00} XXXX - {$200.00} XXXX - {$200.00} XXXX - {$200.00} XXXX - {$200.00} XXXX - {$660.00} ( this is when I started communicating through the online system and via phone calls ). XXXX - Nothing was withdrawn as they " investigated my income '' - XX/XX/XXXX " IBR approved, but the calculations are incorrect XXXX - {$510.00} ( This calculation is not accurate with making $ XXXXyear ) XXXX - {$620.00} ( why did it increase? ) I submitted an Economic Hardship Request. I had a phone call and explained how the XXXX, XXXX, and XXXX payments were causing me hardship. XXXX - Nothing was withdrawn because I contacted them again after the large XXXX payment. XXXX - {$410.00} ( Rate dropped and I thought this would be permanent even though it was not accurate with making $ XXXX/year ) XXXX - {$630.00} ( Increased again with no explanation ) I have submitted an application for hardship deferment. I have uploaded my W9 from my employer proving that my total income last year was {$24000.00}. I anticipate less income this year because my employer is in XXXX. Last year the XXXX XXXX XXXX reduced available hours for XXXX to take XXXX XXXX. With our United States changes in time zone and the reduced availability of evening XXXX for the XXXX XXXX I am XXXX only XXXX XXXX per day instead of XXXX. That is a reduction of approximately {$8000.00} as I make {$11.00} per lesson and I attempt to work 365 days a year. I would like my account history to be investigated. I also do not believe they will give me a deferment based upon what they did with my loan last year. From what I can see at this time, I will not make {$24000.00} with this employer this year. A reduction of {$8000.00} is a hardship. I am seeking additional employment that meets my needs of a home-based business because I have an XXXX XXXX that causes me to need to XXXX and XXXX more than normal. Leaving the home and working a usual 9 - 5 has not worked out for me for a long time. I get XXXX and can't work at all.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan

Consumer Complaint: I have a federal government consolidated student loan, and work at a 501 ( c ) 3 job. In 2007, and for a few years I checked in with my lender and links provided to ensure I was on track for Public Student Loan Forgiveness. I was assured that I was on track and that it was too soon to apply. I later found out that although the loan should have qualified, it now didn't and I'd have to re-fiance and start over. I have over 10 years of payments, and I can't just start a new 10 year clock. The lender and the government pulled a bait and switch scam on us. Fix this, allow me to apply and forgive the loan as promised.

Consumer Complaint: in XX/XX/XXXX, I. lost my son in a car crash, Loans he signed for were forgiven. the parent plus loans I signed for were not they said they were combined with another sons loan. Over a 12 year period I made several attempts to clear the notes. I continued to make payments. In XX/XX/XXXX< I contacted an ombudsman to plead my case. I was some what successful, in XX/XX/XXXX the total amount of his portion of my debt was credited. ( {$56000.00} ) What was not credited was the interest that accrued over the 12 years for the {$56000.00}. After doing my own anylasis, if the my debt due at the time with the payments I made would of been less than {$10000.00}. In stead it was set at over {$27000.00}. Te difference is very close to the cost of of interest for the {$56000.00}.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Need information about your loan balance or loan terms

Consumer Complaint: Since XX/XX/XXXX, Navient Corporation has stopped sending monthly billing statements for three ( 3 ) student loans that my step-son received in XXXX. There are three ( 3 ) loans involved - I am the Co-signer of one ( 1 ) of the loans, and my wife is the Co-signer of the other two ( 2 ). We had been receiving billing statements up until XX/XX/XXXX. When we did not receive a billing statement the following month ( XXXX ), we called them on XX/XX/XXXX. The customer service reps ( XXXX XXXX XXXX ) we talked to said the company is not allowed to send billing statements now because of a " pending law suit ''. However, they would be able to take a payment over the phone - which we did by EBT. Each of the following months - XXXX, XXXX, & XXXX we failed to receive a monthly billing statement and again called the company ( XX/XX/XXXX ; XX/XX/XXXX ; XX/XX/XXXX ). Each time we were able to talk with the same person ( XXXX ) and given the same answer as in XXXX. We also made a payment on each of the accounts by EBT for each of those months. We did not receive a billing statement again in XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX. On XX/XX/XXXX we called again requesting a status of the account and a billing statement. This time we talked with a person by the name of 'XXXX ' who told us the same story as in previous months that they aren't sending billing statements. We also asked what the current interest rates were on the loans ; the current Unpaid Principal ; and Unpaid Interest & Fees. 'XXXX ' said that information wasn't available. The bottom line is that the loan servicing company ( Navient ) is failing to provide billing statements - either automatically or when requested to either the borrower ( my step-son ) or the Co-signers ( myself and my wife ).

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan

Consumer Complaint: I made a call to Navient on Monday XX/XX/2020 at XXXX in regards to my student loan. When I spoke to the representative she looked over my account and we proceeded to do the forbearance. She asked me what day I would like to setup the payment. And no point in time during that conversation that she stayed if the payment was after the eighth that it would be late reporting. On XX/XX/XXXX, I spoke to another customer service representative from Navient. He stated that that particular representative did not give me complete information and should have disclose that my due date was the eighth and that if the payment was after that particular day it would have been reported as late. He also submitted a complaint to the supervisor due to the previous representative failure to disclose complete and accurate information. As a result my payment was reported as late which has stopped me from purchasing a home and jeopardized my background check as a federal employee. I also made the payment on the 23rd and was told that it went through third and still received an email stating I had a payment due on XX/XX/XXXX. And at the bottom of the email it states that 1The payment amount ( s ) listed above reflects the amount due as of the date of this email. Please log in to your account at Navient.com to view your minimum payment due. I would hope that the forbearance will be processed in a timely manner, so that I do not have another late reporting.

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled

Consumer Complaint: My total current amount as of XX/XX/XXXX is {$130000.00}. {$63000.00} from Sallie Mae and {$71000.00} from Navient. I was never told that Navient was buying anything from Sallie Mae until I got bills from Navient and had to call a Sallie Mae representative for information. I graduated in XX/XX/XXXX and have been making payments ever since and my loan amount has only increased. I can not afford my payments and they will not work with me to make payments. I was told by customer service representatives to ask people in life for money to pay for it and that it is too bad and to call back when I can make a payment. They are extremely unprofessional and give scarce, if any help with repayment. I have been researching tricks to help pay down loans faster and one is making extra payments to buy down the loans. I asked Sallie Mae if I can make bi-weekly payments on autopay to pay quicker, they refused. I asked to make payments towards the principle balance only in attempt to buy my loans down quicker and was told I can not, it will go to interest first and even if specified for balance only, they will disregard and put towards interest anyway. I am trying to work with them to make payments, I am not skipping out on my payments. I simply can not afford my debt and would like help with making payments I can afford and they refuse. My interest rates were around 7 % when I first got the loan and now are almost at 11 % on some of them. I was never told how high they would go and given no help on them.

Consumer Complaint: I've tried to resubmit information for an income-based repayment plan but the website keeps getting an " error '' and I'm unable to submit the proper information. My student loans jumped from {$150.00} to {$270.00} to {$670.00} dollars in the last 4 months. I understand that I believe I was on an income-based repayment plan but Navient must think I'm making more money. I'm currently working part-time and not able to afford a $ XXXX monthly bill.
