Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer
Subissue: Received bad information about your loan
Consumer Complaint: In 2004, a began receiving education for my XXXX degree at XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. I was provided funding to attend XXXX by Sallie Mae. I was only offered a variable interest rate and had to have two cosigners. Thankfully, I was able to get the loan and begin the process to become a health care professional. I began paying on my loans a year after I graduated. We were making payments with high, fluctuating interest rates, making it close to impossible most months to pay our bills. We requested multiple of times for Sallie Mae to refinance our loans to obtain a fixed rate and lower payments, but were continuously denied. We attempted numerous of times to find financial institutions to refinance my student loan, but no one would touch a private loan. Suddenly, Sallie Mae stopped collecting payments from us. We were never given any explanation. Come to find out, one of my cosigners filed bankruptcy. Somehow, this put my loan into non collection status. This happened for quite sometime. The cosigner filed bankruptcy twice in a row, I believe. I never received the full story, nor recall receiving anything from Sallie Mae. Regardless, over the years, multiple times, I've attempted to release my cosigners, to refinance my loans, and have never been successful. My loans have gone in and out of forbearance with very little, if any, communication from the company, who now I know is Navient. My loans are currently in forbearance, not sure how, but I'm not complaining. I do not have the money to pay them at this time, especially at the rate they are. I've been contacted by lawyers, but I denied their services due to being told it would hurt my credit for quite sometime ; I wasn't sure if that was the best route. I am hurting financially, and my loans are an impending doom. I feel that if Sallie Mae would've helped me in the first few years I was requesting a better payment plan, I could have my loans paid off, or at least close to, by now. I need guidance and support. I'm hoping I can receive this by reaching out to this company. Thank you for the opportunity to feel heard!

Consumer Complaint: I have asked by phone and in writing by certified mail for complete list of loans, copies of the promissory notes and complete accounting of the loan. I was told to file economic hardship with IDR and that each year would need to refile and they would send me notice of this to be done. I had in writing stating I do everything by XXXX, mail, NOT by email or website or by phone. I told them my identity had been stolen years ago and do not agree with the amount of loans. I also informed them that I had a XXXX and was making limited income and was self employed. In XXXX I received notice that I hadn't made payments when this was placed in the IDR and my payments were {$0.00}. I called and asked to have what I needed to file mailed to me. I received it and completed the required documents and mailed them back. I was told I would received notice if they did not received my paperwork by set date. I received nothing but letter stating again that I had payments of {$0.00}. The beginning of the month of XX/XX/XXXX I find out that I have missed payments. I had to borrow a friends laptop to go online to create a account with NAVIENT to find out what was going on and that they were sending notices to and old email I don't use and not by Mail as I requested. I called and was given rude comments about my loan and that payments required. I again explain I am self employed and do not make enough to make payments. My payments are over {$490.00}. I than send another certified letter with the completed paperwork requesting a XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. I could never get a clear answer what would be best for me to file. I also requested again the complete list of loans, copies of the promissory notes and complete accounting of the loan. I sent this by certified mail and also FAX it to them on XX/XX/XXXX. I also stated again that are not to call the phone number listed for it is my parents number and they are elderly. From XX/XX/XXXX to this date they have received over 5-8 calls a day and these calls begin from XXXX am/Arizona time till XXXX. They have answered and told NAVIENT to stop calling. I have told them to stop calling that I do not do anything over the phone do to fraud and I do not trust them to provide what they state is true. That I want all statements in writing. Yesterday, I received from NAVIENT two letters stating they can not process my requests for they need additional information. They need forms/documents of income proof ( basically my taxes ). I do not mind providing this information but I provided it at the beginning of the year XXXX, again in XX/XX/XXXX, which is were my information they either misplaced or as they claim I did not sent. I am sending them my XXXX taxes again, and certified by mail, again. Which is extra hardship for me. I do not trust NAVIENT, for I have ask for proof of loans and documents and they haven't send me but copies of unreadable documents and they have signatures that are not mine. There is so much more to this but I don't believe I have enough space to write it. Also, NAVIENT, has threaten me with Garnishment and that they will collect any of my Tax Returns. I have explained to them that I'm self-employed there is no employer and I used my Tax Returns for savings for those things that could happen. I will be honest, I'm XXXX old, self-employed due to my health and there will be no way I will ever be able to pay my loan of. I would love to be able to do a job that would pay me high wages and pay my loan off but I did not expect to have a XXXX at XXXX.

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan
Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments
Consumer Complaint: I have called Navient repeatedly to discuss lowering my monthly payment amount on my loans from {$660.00} per month to something much more manageable since I do not make anywhere near that amount per month. The most I can comfortably afford to pay is, at most, {$75.00} per month. Every time I asked about lowering the payments I was told to apply for forbearance. I have told them to mail me the paperwork to apply and I have not received the paperwork. This has been occurring for 2 years now.

Issue: Written notification about debt
Subissue: Didn't receive enough information to verify debt
Consumer Complaint: I have submitted a certified letter to this creditor requesting validation of this debt and I specified please provide the name, address, and telephone number of each person who personally verified this alleged account, so that I can inquire about how they verified without providing any proof, bearing my signature. This creditor failed to provide that documentation. The only information they sent was my name, the account number and the amount owed.

Consumer Complaint: I am currently enrolled in IBR and have been since XX/XX/XXXX. When I first entered my 12-month program, my 12 months ran from XX/XX/XXXX to XX/XX/XXXX. Last year, I was asked to submit my re-certification a little earlier than usual which I did. The next thing I knew, I received an increased payment that was starting a few weeks later in XX/XX/XXXX. I called Navient because I knew that I should have started my new cycle in XX/XX/XXXX ( really was XX/XX/XXXX). As I went back through my records, I realized that Navient had ended my 12-month IBR cycle a month early in XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX. Therefore, I ended up paying more money earlier than scheduled and Navient did not honor the 12-month IBR program. Upon contacting Navient on XX/XX/XXXX, I was basically told that because I filled my forms out early that they were starting from that point. I explained that I filled it out based on the deadline Navient gave me to complete it. Therefore, their explanation did not make sense and why wouldnt that have affected me in previous years. I walked them through the documents I had with my payment cycle and how it was only implemented for 11 months, 2 years in a row, even though IBR is a 12-month program. I tried to speak with a manager and then I asked to be transferred to speak with a customer representative in the United States. That person acknowledged what I was saying and stated that an investigation needed to happen. She also stated that I would need to pay the new payment starting XX/XX/XXXX even though my 12 months were not up to avoid a late payment. So, once again I started paying an increased amount earlier than anticipated. For the record, I never heard from Navient regarding my complaint to reimburse the difference I paid due to my IBR ending earlier than the mandated 12-month period and to acknowledge their error in general. More importantly, I wanted to know why my 12 month cycle went from a XX/XX/XXXX start to an XX/XX/XXXXstart. Fast forward to XX/XX/XXXX. Navient just sent me an email stating that it was time for me to renew and in XX/XX/XXXX because they clearly still have me on a whole new payment cycle. I would like some clear explanations. This all feels like fraudulent behavior to me.

Issue: Incorrect information on your report

Consumer Complaint: I am XXXX years old and a co-signor on a student loan administered by Navient. The loan dates back 11 years or more during which time payments were made timely. Recently, I received word from XXXX that a negative credit report had been made against me by Navient because of a late payment on the account. Apparently, the primary borrower failed to make a payment. This was the first notice of any kind that I received to the effect that the account was in default. I immediately brought the account current. As it turns out, Navient did not notify me of the delinquency because it did not have accurate contact information for me. This is hard to understand because it had been receiving payments from me for years. In short, Navient completely failed to notify me, the co-signor, of the account delinquency before filing a negative report about me with the credit reporting agencies. The negative effect of Navients report on my credit score has been significant. My credit history is otherwise exemplary. Ive asked Navient to retract its report and it has refused.

Consumer Complaint: I began attending XXXX XXXX university in XXXX WV in XX/XX/XXXX part time on and off ( depending on work ) working towards my degree in XXXX XXXX XXXX In XX/XX/XXXX due to my spouse and his substance abuse I no longer could attend college because I had to support my newborn and take a full time job after separating from my husband. My student loans were always advised to be to be placed in deferment or forbearance. With very little income and supporting a child this continued for years. In XX/XX/XXXX a coworker gave me information about income driven repayment plans for student loans. This information was NEVER suggested to me. The information on IDR showed after 20 years of making income based payments the remainder of the balance would be forgiven. For 13 years my loans sat and accumulated interest. In XX/XX/XXXX I went back to XXXX school and am now a XXXX I then worked full time so my Second Husband could go to school, he graduated with his XXXX degree. We have XXXX children but making my student loan payment ya is impossible. My original balance of loan debt was approximately {$27000.00}. To date my loan balance with interest is {$100000.00}. With an expected payment of {$2000.00} a month. I owe for my student loans and In no way feel that I should not have to pay this debt back. However I do feel with proof of my W2s from the years XX/XX/XXXX to XX/XX/XXXX I can show my income was low and I should have been advised to do income based payments and would be well over half way to having my debt paid off in regards to after 20 years the debt is removed. I want to pay what I am in debt to but also would like reconsideration on the interest that makes repayment impossible. I have emailed Navient multiple times with absolutely no response. Phone reps can not offer any help. Any help with this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time. XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX , WV XXXX

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled
Consumer Complaint: Once again Navient has created false documents. This is my third complaint. I did not agree to a forbearance. Nor my co-signer. They kept rearranging payment documents. Now they say auto pay has been deleted. And another forbearance which wasnt requested wasnt accepted. Yet the so called first forbearance they have yet to send documentation. I havent done anything on this account. Its been charged off. To my knowledge the first phone calls I got I didnt understand the process. Felt rushed to accept a deferment XXXXyears ago. Now this lender not only refuses to get off my credit report. But refuses to do what they said they would do to begin with delete the forbearance. I have stop communication with this company. Due to lack of customer service and solving problem accordingly. Lying continuously.

Consumer Complaint: every year i need ro recertifiy my REPAYE program, each year i use the FSA calculator to look at me and my wifes income, and it details how much we will be paying for the next year, taking into consideration our joint income and joint loan balance. my wife was XXXX, and mine was XXXX, but when i did my paperwork, navient came back and said my payment was 250+? i do this every year and when i bring it up to them, they offer a forebearance while i resubmit paperwork, but all that forebearance does is captilize my interest to my principal, thus increasing my loan. i end up paying a few payments during the year, but cannont afford the 250+ all year, so im forced into there wonderul option of forebearance. even while they should be researching my issue and pausing or allowing me to make a smaller payemtn.
