Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer
Subissue: Need information about your loan balance or loan terms
Consumer Complaint: I have been dealing with NAVIENT for days. I am filling out my XXXX application to take the XXXX, become an XXXX, and pay NAVIENT. The application requires that I provide full loan numbers. I have requested this information four separate times in the past 2 days. They keep telling me I can find it on their website. Once I made one of the customer service reps wait on the phone until I went through the website like they said, they admitted I couldn't view that information online. Then they tell me it is ON MY MONTHLY STATEMENT. Yet .... I logged into their message system and viewed every monthly statement for the last 2 years and guess what? the loan number is NOT on the statement. I called them again and told them this. They then admit, it is NOT On my monthly statement. Bottom Line : They are refusing to provide the loan numbers. I have no idea how this is legal, but please help me fix it. Thanks.

Consumer Complaint: In XX/XX/XXXX-XX/XX/XXXX I was forced into a forbearance, I made less then {$10000.00} in the year for both years. I was told this will just freeze my account solid till I was able to get back on my feet financially. In XX/XX/XXXX I had to reapply, where I learn that I accumulated over {$10000.00} on the loan as an increase of not making payments. My statements would come in a zero. And no one, no one ever explained that this will accumulate interest. I was told that it was an account freezer, that my account would stay solid at that price till I was able to get back financially. In XX/XX/XXXX-XX/XX/XXXX I sent in my taxes to prove that I am below poverty still making {$10000.00} in a year. I was told I would have to do IDR, and as I get my emails to know my payment amount, I could never sign in to navient. I had been locked out of my account on how many attempts to add my social and my birthday with the website stating I never had an account. Finally I call to talk to a representative, all for him to tell me my account had expired in XX/XX/XXXX. How can a federal government payment program expired your account, but still demanding you to make repayments. Navient lied to me over the last 5 years, as I tried to show valid income information to receive lower payments, they made me go into deferment and forbearance instead of offering actual payment options. Because of this my loan increase went from {$10000.00} loan to a now {$40000.00} due to interest, when I provided my low poverty income wages for years.

Consumer Complaint: I attended The XXXX XXXX of California - XXXX XXXX XXXX, a California corporation XXXX The California XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, a California corporation ; from XX/XX/XXXX to XX/XX/XXXX. The program I originally enrolled was Fashion Design. On XX/XX/XXXX I transition into XXXXnterior Design. I was told since we are in XXXX XXXX the market for Interior Designers was better ( more job opportunities ), and I liked both so I made the change. I enrolled under the impression all the programs at the school were accredited. Then I was told by the school staff that XXXX XXXX XXXX located in XXXX XXXX had the accredited Interior Designed program, so I transferred. After I transferred I realized that the information was not correct and the program was not accredited. So I transferred back to be close to my home and my job. I was struggling working full time and trying to go to school full time. Finally on XX/XX/XXXX I finished the program under the impression I had achieved a Higher Education. In XXXX Navient wanted {$1000.00} per month, and the federal loans also demanded {$1000.00} monthly payment, I was bringing home about {$2200.00} net wages per month. I was on default for a long time on both. Finally the state was able to assist me with programs that allowed me to make payments under {$200.00} per month ( but this could change at any moment and if they decide to increase my monthly income I will be on default again ). On XX/XX/XXXX I contacted Navient ( spoke with someone named XXXX ) to see if they could work a low payment, they offer me a monthly payment of {$380.00} from XX/XX/XXXX with a final payment on XX/XX/XXXX. I explain to XXXX that I did not have that amount available every month, not even half of that. We calculated my expenses and income. I asked if I could talk to someone else to approve a lower payment and XXXX responded the only person that could approve a lower payment is my supervisor but I see that you could not pay so I know he will denied it. I asked XXXX if they offer any type of programs similar to the federal loans such as IDR, forbearance, consolidation, his answer was not for private loans. I have three private loans with Navient, as of XX/XX/XXXX : XXXX XXXX XXXX loan XXXX original principal {$16000.00}, unpaid principal {$56000.00} XXXX including capitalized interest ), current balance {$60000.00} ; XXXX XXXX XXXX loan XXXX original principal {$14000.00}, unpaid principal {$30000.00} XXXX including capitalized interest ), current balance {$31000.00} ; XXXX XXXX XXXX loan XXXX original principal {$4600.00}, unpaid principal {$8600.00} XXXX including capitalized interest ), current balance {$8900.00} ; Total Current Balance {$100000.00}. The following year XXXX XXXX ) I tried cut down some of my expenses, tried looking for cheaper rent without sacrificing my childs safety. I started driving uber but the money that I was making was for maintenance, gas and other job related expenses. At the end of XXXX I realized that I could not make the payments. As of XX/XX/XXXX I received minimum three ( 3 ) calls every day from Navient, but XXXX advised was to contact them once I could make the payment. I was told the program would cost me around $ 72K total, but because I already had an AA degree and had taken all my general education classes it would be half of that I would be finish in less time. In many instances, the financial department contact me to go to the office and explain me that the loan amount I had previously acquired was exhausted and had cover my tuition ( classes ) so far, but if I wanted to continue with my education I had apply for new loans. They told me were to apply and after I finished the application they just say if you do not get approve we will contact you. I was never told how much I was getting approve for or how the loan was distributed. After graduation I tried to work something out with the institutions to make the payments but they would not help much their answer was/is you could not settle the loan amount because no matter what you will never get the student loans discharged. I asked if I could consolidate them, their answer was no. In XXXX I paid over $ 25K private student loans to one institution. I was looking at different options to solve/fix my student loans and I came across Civil Action No. 07-461, case 2:07-cv-00461-TFM False Claims Act, 31 U.S.C. 3729-33 ( FCA ) ; California False Claim Act, Cal. Govt Code 12650 et seq., and other States. XXXX XXXX XXXX and its subsidiary corporations listed in the caption, presented and/or made numerous false claims and statements in order to obtain eligibility to participate in Title IV, HEA program from XX/XX/XXXX to late XXXX ( or later ). As stated/proven in the case file school officials made sure students enrolled and the loans ( private and federal ) were approved for their personal financial unjust enrichment. In addition, Navient, formerly known as Sallie Mae , Inc. case 3:17-cv-00101-RDM - Consumer Financial Protection Act of 2010 ( CFPA ), 12 U.S.C. 5531, 5536 ( a ), 5564, 5565 ; the Fair Credit Reporting Act ( FCRA ), 15 U.S.C. 1681 et seq., and its implementing regulation, Regulation V, 12 C.F.R. part 1022 ; and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act ( FDCPA ), 15 U.S.C. 1692 et seq., based on unlawful acts and practices in connection with Defendants servicing and collection of student loans.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I applied for the income based repayment plan so that I could qualify for the Federal Service Loan Forgiveness after 10 years. On XX/XX/XXXX I called to check to see how many months remained and was told I was only on the income based repayment plan for 2 years. The woman I spoke to, Ms. XXXX XXXX, said prior to that it appeared I was on the income based contingent plan even though I asked to be put on the income based repayment plan and and she commented that they Navient puts you on the plan that is best for you. Needless to say this isnt the plan that is best for me. This is the plan that is best for them. I wont get credit for the time I have been making payments. She also said I apologize for the wrong information you were given. Well, this has wiped out 6 years worth of payments and has derailed the plans I had of applying for the PSLF in two years. So basically {$80000.00} in Lon forgiveness is gone because they gave me wrong information.

Consumer Complaint: I have a student affiliated loan that is governed by Navient. I understand that Navient is either going through a huge class action lawsuit and or it is or has completed the class action lawsuit. I was contacted several times by representatives informing me and assuring me to go into a forbearance status so that they could offer me steps to have my loan removed and or reduced. During the conversations which took place in XXXX, XXXX and in XXXX, I continued to make payments but was always sidetracked into the amounts and the possibilities of having my loans reduced and or removed. While trying to focus and manage these loan conditions, some payments were either missed and or fraudulently reported to the three credit bureaus. Currently I am on a forbearance again and I have to contact a representative to provide certain information to Navient so that they can lower my payments. I believe that I am a victim of fraud and corruption with this company.

Consumer Complaint: I graduated from college in XXXX. Several years ago I consolidated my student loans with Navient. Since then I have improved my credit rating tremendously, I now have a credit score close to 800. I received a letter from Pioneer Credit Recovery in XXXX of XXXX about a student loan that I did not pay and did not know about as I thought all my federal student loans were included in my consolidation with Navient. I sent a letter to the US Department of Education in XX/XX/XXXX along with supporting documentation ( it is attached ) and I didn't receive a response. What's interesting about the collection agency being Pioneer Credit Recovery is that ( according to a XXXX search ) they are a division of Navient, that has my SSN, DOB, address ( where I have lived for over 5 years ) and my phone number that has not changed in well over a decade. Why would I just now be contacted about this loan? My XXXX, {$1800.00} tax return was off set this year. And I still owe over {$2700.00} due to fees and interest. On XX/XX/XXXX at XXXX I spoke to employee ID XXXX and requested a validation of debt. To date, it has not been received. In an attempt to move on with my life and keep my excellent credit rating, I have offered a settlement of {$1000.00} and it is being rejected. I think {$2800.00} for sending ONE letter a year ago is a pretty good deal, wouldn't you agree? My complaint is that the federal government nor Pioneer Credit Recovery have done their due diligence to collect on this loan and I should not have to pay the inflated fees and interest. Thank you for your time.

Consumer Complaint: I have been issues predatory loans and have been systematically lied to by Navient at every turn since I graduated in XXXX. They have told me that forbearance was the best option upon graduation and when navigating the financial repayment plans. They lied and said forbearance would not effect me entering into the repayment plan for student loan forgiveness when I have worked for a non-profit for almost 10 years. they told me I was not eligible for financial repayment plans in XXXX and said I would have to make {$780.00} a month payments to pay them back and would not give me information about the forgiveness plan. They then hung up on me. This lead me into a default status and they began to garnish my wages. When I called to talk to another person at the company to resolve this issue they told me I am better off with the 20 year income driven repayment plan. They have lost my paperwork I have sent in which then put me out of my repayment plan due to not having it filed in time. ( XXXX I believe ) they then put me back on forbearance stating it would not effect my payments or fees in anyway. Any time I have called for information they have given me inaccurate information. I have asked about consolidating several times and they said that is not in my best interest and that I would pay my loans off sooner paying them individually. I took out less than {$40000.00} in loans, have been paying for 8.5 years and I now owe over {$87000.00}. I am not even sure how when I make payments each month it has gone added another {$47000.00} to my debt which I will never be able to repay while working in this field. ( I work for a non-profit, XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. ). Please tell me how to fix this or what I can do to manage this issue as I am overwhelmed.
