Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan

Consumer Complaint: I took out a student loan under XXXX XXXX in XXXX of XXXX with an original principal of {$17000.00}. In XXXX of XXXX, I was encouraged to go into forbearance rather than using income-driven payment plans and ended up consolidating my Federal student loans with Navient at an exorbitant interest rate of 9 %. Navient did not encourage the option/benefit of an IBP in XXXX of XXXX. Since XXXX, I have been under an IBR Plan, but my principal is now {$71000.00}. I believe I would be in a better financial situation at this time had I initially signed up for an IBR. Please help in rectifying this situation or advise of other avenues to take to reduce the interest I have accrued over the years.

Consumer Complaint: I was told by the government that my student loan would be forgiven because I receive XXXX. I sent money to the forgiveness program, and they never applied any amount of money to my account. With saying that, I would like to have the previous amount owed to my students loans erased from my credit report please. This is really hurting me. Please help. I was paying monthly to the forgiveness program. Navient is the company. I have about 7 accounts. All are negative.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Need information about your loan balance or loan terms

Consumer Complaint: Without requesting an account review Navient sent me a letter on XX/XX/XXXX stating " During a recent review of your account, we found that your repayment schedule was shorter than it should be. '' I have been paying this loan for 13 years. Now, 74 months away from finishing I am informed, " weve extended your repayment terms, meaning youll have more time to pay and your Monthly Payment Amount may be lower. '' Decreasing my monthly payment by almost {$500.00} while increasing the interest they will be receiving by approximately 350 % and keeping me in debt for an additional 150 months! Upon calling the company the representative stated she was willing to increase my monthly payment back to the original amount ; she failed to understand that's not why I was calling. She stated the original promissory note ( from XXXX ) was not reflected in the repayment plan and I should refer to the original promissory note for confirmation. Well, I don't have a 13 year old document handy and she could not provide it. If she couldn't provide it where was the information coming from when my account was " reviewed ''? I believe this is another example of deceitful business practices by Navient.

Consumer Complaint: I began repaying my student loan in XXXX with Navient. I specifically requested payment towards the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. I was placed on a graduated repayment plan which does not qualify towards the PSLF. It was not until XXXX ( XXXX XXXX later when I began inquiring about my payoff date balance with the ONLY company that processes PSLF- FedLoan ) that I was informed that those three years of payments XXXX would not count because it was under the wrong payment plan. I transferred my loans to FedLoan in preparation for payoff ( the only company that processes PSLF ) and they are not counting those three years and $ XXXX ( It took them three years and nine months to evaluate my payoff date ) only to find out it " does not count ''. This seems criminal to me and I would like to know if I can benefit somehow from the lawsuit where they found that Navient who was my student Loan holder neglected to give me the correct payment plan information ( which was one of the charges in the lawsuit ) and as a result has provided a financial hardship for me. Instead of having three more years before payoff I am now facing six more years. Please help!

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Don't agree with the fees charged

Consumer Complaint: Dear Sir or Madam, First of, I would like to thank you in advance for paying attention to my case. I end up with private from Salliemae back in XXXX as XXXX UniversityXXXX students for a Bachelor program. It was explained to me then that the only loan, I was qualified for was private loan due to a lack of credit history and co-signer. So I signed up for the loan with variable interest at 9,99 % ... since college was key to become a free thinker, a productive member of Society ... at least that was the dream. After my graduation, I was unemployed and asked for forbearance, quickly reality sinked in ; as I was slammed with {$300.00} fees. So since XXXX, I have been paying for my loan without missing a beat.I tried multiple times to consolidate with no luck. No one will even listen. This is a predatory behavior. Even with FED interest rate at 0, I still pay 3.50 % .Now with COVID 19 they still want me to pay with interest at 3.12 %. I paid per year an average of XXXX in interest.Another point is Salliemae have sold my loan multiple time without even consulting with me Now my loan is within Navient. Please can you help so I can have 0 interest for six months as humanity is dying. Sincerely XXXX XXXX

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan

Subissue: Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan

Consumer Complaint: We secured a private educational loan in XXXX for our son, with a co-signer who had a relationship with and was invested in our son. The original loan was {$67000.00} and was with Sallie Mae, not with Navient. Our son died in XXXX of XXXX before completing his education. We no longer have a relationship with the co-signer, as his relationship was just with our now-deceased son. We requested a forbearance every year since his death and were declined every time We were offered a reduced payment plan ( which we accepted ) not realizing that it would 1 ) add to our amount owed 2 ) would forbid us from removing the cosigner from the loan Because we could not afford the nearly {$1000.00} per month loan payments required, we accepted the reduced payment plan so we could manage monthly payments without late payments that were hurting our credit scores As a result, our loan is now close to {$75000.00} and we are stuck, being refused any help by Navient, and are not permitted to remove the cosigner It is unclear to us when the loan shifted from Sallie Mae to Navient, but the ugliness began with Navient We are now almost 10 years into this loan, and owe more now than the initial loan. Navient refuses a forbearance or reduced payoff, and refuses to remove the cosigner We are now nearing retirement and this loan will outlive us. It is a serious financial strain on our lives and an emotional monthly reminder to pay for a loan for our deceased son. We will be forced to default on the loan and/or file for bankruptcy if Navient continues to refuse to negotiate.

Consumer Complaint: Navient -improper billing procedures. When request for financial hardship application was submitted I was told it would be weeks/months before I would get the application, but not to worry as I would be placed in forbearance in the meantime. Was then reported past due, both 30 days and 60 days at the same time after no application was received. When I called to ask why this was, I was told I would receive a letter showing my accounts in good standing and my credit report would be amended within 90 days. 5 months later and I since was told to request the amendment in writing after it didnt fall off the report within 90 days. After 29 days I called to ask what the status was and was told they have 30 days to respond and still had no answer. They received the letter on XX/XX/XXXX and have sent no response as of XX/XX/XXXX ( 34 days ). They are now refusing to amend reporting, stating that it is accurate even though the original issue stemmed from them not sending bills in the first place. In 7 years Ive had XXXX missed payments on any accounts now, as I was in the process of buying a home, my rekey shows XXXX missed payments and they refuse to amend this. They also through the years have steered me to deferments and forbearance instead of income driven repayment plans and finally ( while they were steering me towards yet another deferment ) I demanded an IDRP. I believe they are intentionally leading away from payment plans so that the interest builds up and I also believe they have practices that lend themselves to default/late payments.

Consumer Complaint: I am an IL XXXX XXXX of 21 years, with a student loan that I believe was consolidated by Navient, My loan is through Navient, that's who I make payments to monthly. I XXXX in an underprivileged XXXX XXXX XXXX. XXXX XXXX XXXX in XXXX, IL ( 7 years as of XX/XX/2020 ). Navient is fraudulent because they offer XXXX forgiveness and then they reject XXXX applications. I met all the criteria to receive XXXX forgiveness. As I mentioned, I XXXX in an underprivileged XXXX XXXX XXXX that is 100 % free lunch for all students. I am also a specialized XXXX certified in XXXX XXXX. That is also the criteria to qualify for XXXX loan forgiveness. I have applied several different times with my district HR Administration signatures and sent the application to Navient and I waited for months only to get rejected. XXXX loan forgiveness states that it will forgive alone when it's {$17000.00} or less or up to {$17000.00}. They make it impossible once you apply to ever get loan forgiveness, it is fraud. Advertising XXXX loan forgiveness and then making it impossible to receive it. My loan is just a little bit over {$15000.00}

Consumer Complaint: Multiple missed payments were reported for my Navient account across all 16 of my student loans while I was in forbearance. Ive asked Navient to provide proof of the forbearance terms and they were unable to furnish that communication. They stated that the forbearance was verbal via phone and the representative I was working with likely entered something into their system incorrectly. I also received no communication before or during the months of XXXX, XXXX and XXXX when these accounts were reported as delinquent.
