Consumer Complaint: Hello, I have been repaying my loans on a regular basis since 2004 ( I even made some payments prior to 2004 but have been continuous ). I have recently paid off the entire amount of $ XXXX, however, the total amount I have paid is almost twice the original amount and I would like the CFPB to look into my paiement and let me know if it is right for a government institution to make such profit from student loan repayments. Sallie Mae was the original loan servicer but they sold to Navient. I have all the files however I can not upload but can provide them to you once you call me or contact me directly.

Consumer Complaint: My Navient student loan did not go into forbearance as it should have with the coronavirus quarantine. Instead they harass me and my parents on the phone constantly ( I am XXXX years old and my parents did not co-sign my loans ). I believe they are illegally charging me fees and interest during a time when the loan should be suspended.

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan
Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments
Consumer Complaint: I was emailed by Navirefi an invitation code to apply to refinance my student loans with their company. I proceeded to fill out the application. There was a portion to choose the loans you would like to refinance with them. I chose my private loans and opted not to include my federal loans as I don't want to lose any federal benefits and I am in a Pay As You Earn payment plan with them. Navirefi proceeded to offer to refinance my private loans at 5.04 % ( with autopay ). This would drop my monthly payment for private loans by approximately {$500.00} and help out my financial situation greatly. The application was approved and I had the option to change my mind up until today, XX/XX/2020. I did not change my mind but instead, on the morning of XX/XX/2020, I received an email stating the following : Dear XXXX, Thank you for choosing NaviRefi. During a recent review of your application, we identified an issue with the terms of the loan that you accepted. The issue has since been resolved. Unfortunately, we have to cancel your loan that is scheduled to disburse in the coming days. We apologize for this inconvenience. Our customer care team is ready to rectify the situation and we encourage you to call us as soon as possible to resubmit your application. Please contact us at XXXX. Our call center hours are : Monday through Thursday from XXXXXX/XX/XXXX XXXX to XXXX XX/XX/XXXXET ( The call center closes at XXXX XX/XX/XXXX. ET on XX/XX/2020. ) Friday from XXXXXX/XX/XXXXET to XXXX XX/XX/XXXX ET ( The call center is closed on XX/XX/XXXXXXXX. ) Sincerely, NaviRefi Customer Care I immediately contacted Navirefi and was told that I most likely shouldn't have received this email and the customer service rep would call me back after speaking with her supervisor. After speaking with her supervisor, she called me back and stated the refi can not go through because I didn't include my federal loans. I told her I did not want to include my federal loans. She stated that I am paying over {$1700.00} a month on the federal loans and this is too high for the refi of my private loans to go through. I explained that I am in a repayment plan and am not paying this amount for my federal loans ( this is more than I take home in a month! ). I offered to send over my pay as you earn documents from the federal loan system and she declined. I asked why my application was approved and she stated their was a glitch in the system on the day that I applied and no one should have been able to pick and choose the loans they wanted to refinance with them. Also, they stated my credit report shows my monthly payment being more than {$1700.00} for my XXXX. I have pulled all 3 reports and this is not true. Not any of my reports display this information. Basically, they wanted my federal loans to obtain more money and had no interest in helping me refinance and have a better rate for my loans. This is not a fair practice and deceiving. It's unfortunate that Navient and their associated partners have no interest in working with their clients. I would not ever recommend Navient or their partners such as Navirefi unless you want to struggle making payments that you can not afford.

Consumer Complaint: Navient Federal Loans illegal behavior 1.Navient illegally made me think I was on income based repayment when they where just putting my loans into forbearance and deferment. I would call and request income based repayment and they would say Your good to go, just call back every three months after maybe a year or two of this, after exhausting all my forbearance and deferment, I finally got someone on the phone that told me I wasn't in fact, on income based repayment, that income based repayment is done through the Dept. of Education. This is illegal! I asked for Income based repayment and was screwed, on purpose by Navient. Now what can I do? I can not afford a team of lawyers to fight them. I feel so utterly helpless and powerless against a company that can do whatever they want to me. 2. Navient has been misreporting federal loan balances to credit bureaus. My credit report is basically indecipherable. Navient will add a balance of about XXXX then remove it the next month. Some times they add two XXXX balance increases. These loans are in actual income based repayment now, and there is absolutely no way the interest is XXXX a month. Again I am completely powerless to do anything. When I call Navient they say I have no options. Please investigate this.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX ( thus, in the mids of the pandemic ), I got notified through XXXX updates that my credit score dropped by 100 points in one day. I went to see what happened and Navient, the student loan lender, submitted several delinquent accounts. I tried to dispute these through all credit agencies and I called Navient to understand what happened. After I talked to one of the Navient customer service representatives ( XX/XX/XXXX or so ), two days later they submitted additional " nonpayment '' information that lowered my score even further. I called XXXX and according to the information I submitted to them, they deleted these from my credit report. However, XXXX and XXXX have only updated the information dismissing my dispute. XXXX representatives were utterly rude and patronizing, and when I wanted to talk to their supervisor, one of the rep transferred me to another customer service rep instead. When I finally got to talk to the supervisor, he informed me that all my documentation that I sent by certified mail to their PO Box ( after I was instructed to so ), most likely would not be taken into consideration for the dispute. XXXX, on the other hand, I submitted all the documentation online via their portal but got unsatisfactory results and my credit score remained affected. Now, before all of this outcome with my credit score and XXXX, XXXX, and Navient of course, I need to remark the following. Since I received my XXXX, I was on the search for jobs, but I was not getting any. I kept filling income-driven replacement plans with both XXXX XXXX ( with which I have been in good standing ) and Navient. In XXXX, my payment for both lenders was {$0.00}. This continued throughout XXXX as well. Only once I got a bill from Navient in the amount of {$370.00}, which I could not understand because I was on the income-based repayment plan and no payments were scheduled. I addition, I was on social welfare at the time, as I proved to them through my tax returns and other supporting materials that I have been submitting to this lender ever since I defended my dissertation. Now, I have never received any of these Navient bills that I see listed on my credit report - never! There are amounts from {$1.00} to {$5.00} - which I understand there are 7 accounts opened, and even I thought these were all consolidated, apparently, my documentation ( again and all over again ) did not reach their service. In addition to not receiving or not knowing anything about these " nonpayments '' until they were posted on my credit report, Navient decided to submit these in the midst of the pandemic and the fed. student loan payment suspension ( see attached ) and after I told them that I lost a job in XXXX due to XXXX. I informed all three credit agencies about these issues, but only one was decent enough to remove these from my credit report. The other two play the corporate game of killing the poor and did not even take into consideration any of the documentation that I submitted to them. Thus, hereby, I am seeking help through the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, XXXX XXXX

Consumer Complaint: Early on in my setting up my auto-pay of my student loan with Navient, I set an additional payment beyond the minimum amount. Navient had only applied that amount for a few payments and then stopped applying that additional amount. Additionally, my interest is very high ( 6.7 % ) and they will not lower it or refinance it at a lower rate.

Consumer Complaint: I applied for a mortgage in XX/XX/XXXX and my credit report returned with one negative entry ( please see Signed Consumer Explanation Letter ). This negative entry is from Navient for an account ending in XXXX. The account in question was charged off in XX/XX/XXXX with the amount owed listed as {$100.00}. When I called Navient regarding settling the charged off account, their representative informed me that they show a balance higher than what is being reported to XXXX, XXXX, and XXXX. Per my recollection and records, I have only had the one account with Navient for a private student loan totaling {$500.00}. I borrowed the {$500.00} my last semester of college in XX/XX/XXXX because I no longer qualified for public student loans. I did not take out any additional student loans after this date. The last payment I have record of is from XX/XX/XXXX ( please see Emails from Navient ). On XX/XX/XXXX I was informed that my next payment would be due XX/XX/XXXX ( see Emails from Navient ). I received an email on XX/XX/XXXX reiterating this information with the amount due listed as {$3.00} ( see Emails from Navient ). When Sallie Mae transitioned to Navient, I was informed on XX/XX/XXXX that nothing about my account would change ( see Emails from Navient ). However, on XX/XX/XXXX I was sent an email from Navient indicating that the billing date for the account ending XXXX would be due on XX/XX/XXXX ( see Emails from Navient ). Unaware of the change, I proceeded as if the prior agreement was still in effect. The end result is reflected on my credit report. I have only received communication from Navient regarding the account ending in XXXX. All my student loans with balances over {$500.00} were consolidated prior to XXXX and are now serviced by the U.S. Department of Education. I do not take any responsibility whatsoever for any debt not listed on my credit report. Additionally, I may have previously challenged Navient on their credit reporting and erroneous accounts were removed. I am now attempting to settle the charged off debt of {$100.00} for the account ending XXXX.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, I received a letter from XXXX XXXX XXXX ( I had to find the company name myself as it was not indicated anywhere on the letter ). I spoke to the representative who after asking some questions said I was eligible for student loan consolidation which I knew existed but hadn't got around to researching. After stating that I was eligible, the rep told me there would be a {$790.00} processing fee. Because I would be saving over {$5000.00} in the long run with the program, I wasn't worried about paying the fee initially. Today ( XX/XX/XXXX ), they were supposed to take {$39.00} from my account, and continue to do this for the next 20 years yet I did not see a charge. I then decided to do some XXXX since none of this felt right and found out that loan consolidation is free! There were also forums upon forums of people who have fallen for this scam and urging to stay clear. I have since called to cancel all of my future payments and asked for a refund but was refused due to them 'providing me a service '' but to me NO service has been provided as my loans have not been consolidated and the payments were for them to prepare documents - basically the same documents available on the FAFSA website. I unfortunately signed their online " contract '' and returned the copy they emailed and had me print out and they took the money afterwards. One rep also said that they are affiliated with the Dept. of Education, but when asking for a refund the other rep says that they are not. They refused me a refund and stated that they can put my file under review but that I would most likely not get my money back because I did not cancel in their 3 day grace period. I have now opened up a dispute with my bank for the initial payment of {$790.00}, and am trying to change my account to prevent any sort of future charges ( even though I cancelled ) because I do not trust them. I will wait to see what both they and my bank says but wanted to file a complaint anywhere I can because this company should be looked into!
