Issue: Struggling to repay your loan
Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments
Consumer Complaint: I got loans in XXXX through Sallie Mae XXXX I graduated XXXX in XXXX with a BA degree. Navient acquired the loans in XXXX. In XXXX the loan balance was $ XXXX. I've made payments as best I can for 20+ years. I've paid $ XXXX over the life of these loans and the balance today is STILL $ XXXX. I have tried to negotiate a payoff amount or designate more of my payments to go to the Principal instead of Interest so I could lower the Principal amount ( and therefore interest ). The only thing Navitent is willing to do is multiple forbearances or income based repayment.

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan
Subissue: Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan
Consumer Complaint: In XXXX I enrolled at college at XXXX XXXX University. They pushed Navient as a private lender for me to pay for school. After college The payment was too high for me. As I did not have a job in my field. Instead of offering me income based repayment which my payment should've been zero dollars a month they pushed me into forbearance. I was in forbearance for a few years and then they contacted me threatening me that I must make some sort of payment. At this time my student loan debt had increased significantly from my 9 % interest rate. finally three years ago they told me they were going to garnish my parents wages and their assets if I did not make a payment. They then enrolled me in a interest rate reduction program. Whenever Covid hit they did not let me participate in the forgiveness of payment even though I had no job and was barely surviving. For the last 12 years I have been harassed, bullied and received no options as to other ways for me to make payment. They now have their settlement which they are paying back borrowers, but only those who have defaulted on their loan. Which at the time they did not let me have any option of defaulting I HAD to make a payment. For the last three years I have been paying {$4000.00} in interest a month. My last year XXXX I only made {$13000.00}. If that puts it in perspective.

Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed
Subissue: Debt was result of identity theft
Consumer Complaint: I am a victim of identity theft. It is sad that these companies can flat out violate the federal law like this. This is a direct violation of 15 USC 1692 ( g ) Validation of Debts. Not only have I not given the credit reporting agencies written consent to furnish my consumer report at no time per 15 USC 1681b. I will be filing with the federal courts about the continuous back and forth with the credit reporting agencies and companies who clearly know that they are in violation of the law. It clearly states that once I notify each credit report agency of my identity theft a removal of the account or information is to be removed. I as the the consumer is also the person to identify this information for validation but not one person has called me to verify not one thing. It has been almost a full year of attempting to get them to correct my credit file. I am no longer waiting and will be taking this to the next level. The Navient account is not mine and needs to be corrected.

Consumer Complaint: In XXXX XXXX Bank issued a sub prime predatory private student loan to my mother and I for my brief attendance to XXXX XXXX in XXXX XXXX Florida. Rather than the loan being sent directly to the school for payment, the loan was sent to us the borrowers. As this was XXXX, we truly did not qualify financially for this loan, and it was provided during the sub prime mortgage nightmare. The loan was issued for a little over XXXX with a variable interest rate of up to 8 %. The loan has now been held by Navient for many many years. At many times Navient deliberately increased the interest in a predatory way causing undue harm and emotional stress to my mother and I. There have been little to no repayment options. In XXXX even though I was still attending a local university in XXXX I was forced to being repayments of {$270.00} a month. No options were provided for lower payments and any forbearances offer were only provided for a short and predatory duration. After paying the loan down over time the interest rate was increased within a 6 months period from 2 % to over 6 % this wiped out any progress made from the payments. There are no options for settlement of consolidation. As Navient was ramping up for the settlement they have been deliberately pushing private student loan borrowers to refinance through their company. In a direct and terrible way to ensure they don't have to settle the debt of borrowers who would have qualified for the XXXX settlement.

Consumer Complaint: I live in Florida, and when there was a hurricane coming I got a phone call claiming to be from the federal government, saying I had nothing to worry about the upcoming disaster because my loan would be on hold. I later found out they put my loan on forbearance without my authorization. I called them after I found out and told them to reverse that. I did not complain back then because I thought this was a federate mandate. I had no idea a private company was behind this forbearance move without my authorization. They need to be accountable for deceiving their customers.

Consumer Complaint: For years I had issues with dealing with sallie Mae to XXXX with Navient with paying for my student loans. I had to stop going to school due to the interest. I could not find a job to afford the payments. I have been living at home for years after college. I was harassed by sallie Mae and navient to the point I do not want to speak with them. I was unemployed in for a year and Navient did not care. They wanted me to pay my student loans when you know unemployment does not pay that much in Maryland. During the pandemic, They promised to stop the payments for 6 months but that was a lie. They told me that i had to call in every month. When I was on the Income driven program, for over 2 years. They claim that the program did not exist. My loan is almost XXXX due to interest which they did not disclose that IT would be over 21 %. This has become a predatory loan. I work for a medical non profit which I am unable to afford to payments due to making below 80 to 90 k. I barely make XXXX XXXX and it took me 5 years to go from XXXX - XXXX XXXX They also are unable to provide me refinance option with their organization which is very odd due to unreachable qualification. The reason why I don not qualify is because Navient affects my credit score which affects my change to refinance with their organization.

Consumer Complaint: Starting around 2004 I took out loans with Sallie Mae. In no way did my school explain to me that they were private loans. Now the loan servicing center Navient is trying to make me pay XXXX back to them. I did not even know who navient was until they started hounding me. I have tried to work with them but I am currently behind. I can't pay this ridiculous amount and I don't feel I owe it especiallywhen Sallie Mae was the servicer and apparentlysold my loans to Navient. It's a shame a school would continue to ask so much tuition that they have to result to tricking people into private loans and loan money that they know borrowers won't be able to pay back. I'm in my XXXX year of teaching and can't think about retiring because of Navient. They are also hounding my XXXX XXXX XXXX mother who was my cosigner. Nothing they have told me was true even to the point that they promised if I made 12 payments of XXXX a month they would release my cosigner and then they didn't honor it. In trying to do this I almost lost everything I have and even my spouse. It doesn't matter if you get the company to investigate its own people, they are not gon na be for the borrower.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer
Subissue: Received bad information about your loan
Consumer Complaint: I was on XXXX due to XXXX XXXXXXXX and struggled for 2 years prior to that made my payments on time and they still always said I was late. I call customer service to assist with my question and every time I get a different answer, no notes you called we don't know what you are talking about we lost your paper work to lower your payments, we mailed you a statement but if they mailed it to me why haven't I received it? I worked at a non-profit hospital for 10 years and was never once told about the programs that you could apply for and possible forgive your loans. Or course I don't work there right now but I did. The last time I called in XX/XX/2021 I happened to log into my portal through them and see that I had a balance due but never received any information from them. when I called the lady said that I signed up for e-delivery which I promise I did not do as I have years of issues with this company. Customer service is horrible and you never get anywhere. I have come to ask for a supervisor but I am always told that they will call back within 24 to 48 hours on the problem but of course never do. I still struggle with my payments as the cost of living goes up but not the pay and they seem to never want to help.

Consumer Complaint: I have been complaining about the deceptive practices of Navient student loans for years and each time I file a complaint which goes straight back to Navient, they give me some bogus explanation which I do not understand at all. I have been carrying student loan debt since 1987, and I will probably be dead long before these loans are ever paid. At the present time, Navient has me in a repayment plan where I pay {$0.00} every month because of my low income. But they charge over {$500.00} a month in interest.. So, for a two year Associate Degree, I owe over {$110000.00}. I am almost XXXX years old, I recently had XXXX XXXX and now I have to work from home because XXXX treatments affected my bones and I can't walk very well. It seems like Navient could have done better than this ... given me more information on repayment plans, given me some sort of break on their high interest charges ... .Navient garnished my income tax refund for seven years and I still owe well over {$110000.00} ... .seems like a rip off ....
