Issue: Struggling to repay your loan

Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments

Consumer Complaint: Back in The beginning of XX/XX/2022 I made a call to Navient trying to lower my payments ( as I have done many times in the last couple of years ). I have never received any assistance in lowering my payments and was told they could only reduce it by probably {$40.00} at most. I was always asked the question how much can you afford to pay followed by is that all. When returning to the line it was always there is very that we can do to help if any help at all. Ive explained several times that I am a single parent that receives no financial aid from the father so I dont understand how I can pay for roof over my head and afford student loans. Navient has this suit going on and I dont know if I qualify simply because I always scraped up what I could to pay so Im unsure if Ive ever been delinquent for 7 straight months. I was always tricked into forbearance but interest always grew so I could never lower my amount. How is it that people who allowed their accounts to become delinquent get all their loans paid off? Were they even trying? Had I even let mine go that far I would have been called 20 times a day.

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan

Subissue: Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan

Consumer Complaint: I hold XXXX private loans with Sallie Mae taken out during the XXXX timeframe for my attendance and then graduation from the University of XXXX XXXX At the time the University did not accept any other lenders and sent me and my mom into this direction. Post graduation I had a hard time finding employment to pay my monthly loan balance of >1k and Sallie Mae did not work with me to find a payment plan that suited my financial situation and recommended forbearing. My original loan request for all XXXX loans was {$76000.00} and has since doubled to {$150000.00}. I'm looking for insight to see if my loans are included in the recent settlement as I feel these are subprime loans with variable interest rates and Navient hasn't done anything to help. I've also requested several times to remove my cosigner and was told this couldn't be done. XXXX XXXX {$16000.00} XXXX XXXX {$18000.00} XXXX XXXX = {$20000.00} XXXX XXXX {$22000.00}

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan

Subissue: Can't temporarily delay making payments

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2021, Navient was contacted to inform them that I was no longer employed ( I had just completed a XXXX internship which was a temporary position ) and therefore would be unable to make monthly payments until further notice. I requested a XXXX emergency forbearance due to my unemployment status, as most employers never responded and the ones that did only did so to notify me that another candidate was chosen despite submitting dozens of applications. However, this request was denied. The first agent responded by offering to lower the monthly payments to an approximate amount of {$760.00}. I informed the agent this would not resolve the issue as I had XXXX income at the time. I was then transferred to another agent and was told I can not be granted emergency forbearance. I informed the agent I have been responsibly making payments while I was employed and did not want to default. The agent responded by stating there is nothing she can do. I should have been granted emergency forbearance due to my XXXXt status. Paying $ XXXX when I was employed was already extremely difficult enough considering it was approximately 50 % of my monthly income. For perspective, my federal XXXX loans are on the income-based repayment plan and currently have a status of " XXXX XXXX XXXX '' - they have had this status long before the ongoing pandemic. To be expected to make a payment of $ XXXX in addition to " late '' fees once I resume payments is absurd. Moreover, despite making uninterrupted payments for the last 5 years I still owe a total of {$75000.00} in private XXXX loans. It appears the payments were applied on the interest and not on the principal balance. An amount of {$75000.00} in a XXXX repayment term would mean I would have to pay a minimum of $ XXXX not including interest. However, I have been required to make monthly payments of {$1000.00}. I do not understand how the extra {$620.00} comes from interest alone. In summation, Navient does not care whether or not borrowers are struggling with their student loan payments. If they did, they would offer more reasonable alternatives to delay and postpone payments during periods of economic hardship. Instead it is clear Navient only cares about quarterly earnings and their yearly revenue.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan

Consumer Complaint: I called Navient customer service in XXXX regarding extending my covid forbearance and was told by the company 's representatives that they were no longer offering covid forebearance. I called back and was told that in fact they were, but were told to push borrowers toward interest only payments. I was unemployed at the time. In addition, the covid forebearance broke my consistent payment record, resetting my ability to qualify for cosigner release after multiple years of on time payments. Despite applying multiple times for cosigner release, I was also denied because my credit to debt ratio is too which, largely because of the loan in question. I've consistently received bad information from navient, been unable to change the terms of the repayment of my private loan regardless of my financial circumstances, and still owe close to the original amount borrowed despite a decade of on time payments, covid forbearance notwithstanding. I'm not sure if I qualify for the settlement that was just agreed upon but definitely fell victim to predatory lending practices in 2008 when I took the loan out to pay for a for profit college with low graduation rates. Navient is a predatory company and the loan I took out almost 15 years ago still keeps me from being able to afford to buy a house, and is a significant financial burden.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan

Consumer Complaint: My loans originated in XXXX with XXXX to attend XXXX University Online. I was granted a forbearance in XX/XX/XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX, before I made any payments. I called for help because spouse had lost job. I believed my loans to be Federal loans that would be able to get Nursing forgiveness but found out my loans were ineligible. I was never, by XXXX, Sallie Mae or Navient, told I could consolidate my loans into a Direct loan that would qualify for forgiveness. I wasnt made aware of that until last year when Covid came and I didnt qualify for the payment pause or 0 % interest. I did some research and emailed a lot of politicians to complain and listened to multiple XXXX videos. In XXXX of XXXX I completed a Direct consolidation loan and have applied for XXXX. They are telling me I have made 7 qualifying payments right now. I began paying on my loans XX/XX/XXXX with XXXX at $ XXXX. In XX/XX/XXXX they were transferred to Sallie Mae. In XX/XX/XXXX, I called due to financial hardship and was offered forbearance for 6 months from XX/XX/XXXX to XX/XX/XXXX, which was later extended to XX/XX/XXXX, which was extended to XXXX XXXX. In XXXX, I began payments in XXXX to XXXX when I began filing Ch XXXX bankruptcy which was discharged XX/XX/XXXX. My loans were transferred to Navient at some point in XXXX. I resumed payments XX/XX/XXXX and continued until XX/XX/XXXX. I was furloughed due to the Covid Pandemic in XX/XX/XXXX when I called Navient to see if I qualified for the payment pause or 0 % interest I was told my loans were NOT federal loans and did not qualify and they offered me 6 months of forbearance. During all these years trying to pay these loans and years of forbearance no one explained income driven plans ( and still havent ) and during all but 2 of these years, I received NO increases in salary. I have researched and seen that XXXX had to repay billions in loans for bad practices, XXXX University students have gotten loan forgiveness because of the schools bad practices. Now Sallie Mae/Navient are having to discharge loans. I have no way of knowing if my loans are in the ones Navient will forgive. Mine are currently with XXXX and awaiting to see if they count more of my payments as qualifying for XXXX. I have worked at a qualifying hospital for almost 25 years. I was financially XXXX by Sallie Mae & Navient for years. I currently owe XXXX. My original loan balance was XXXX. The payments I have made have all been approx XXXX or more/month. I want to know if my loans should have been included in the XXXX forgiveness or will they be included in the Sallie Mae/Navient debacle.

Consumer Complaint: After graduating in 2013, I began paying back my student loans in XX/XX/2013 to Navient. Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled

Consumer Complaint: Navient continues to say that my XXXX loans are not federally related and are continuing to say that I am behind in payments, when indeed these loan types are in a non repayment, no interest accruing status, per the Presidential order related to COVID 19 pandemic. XXXX loans ARE FEDERAL LOANS ... ..Navient is reporting late payments and is claiming that I must begin payments again in XXXX, when according to the Cares Act, they are on pause until May. I have tried NUMEROUS times to work this out with NAvient, asked them to fix my credit report and to stop collection activity to which they refuse. They have just lost a court case for bad practice, so I feel that they are just not a legit servicer. Please hep to correct this issue.

Subissue: Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan

Consumer Complaint: When I graduated from XXXX XXXX University in XXXX, I had a private student loan balance of {$48000.00} with Sallie Mae Corporation. I attempted many times to repay my student loans, however Sallie Mae was unwilling to provide an affordable payment plan. Instead, they pushed forbearance. In the meantime, my loans were charged capitalized interest along with additional fees. In XXXX, My loan balance was an estimated amount of {$89000.00} when Navient finally agreed to place me in an interest rate reduction plan. In XXXX, I refinanced and paid off my private loans with Navient. I recently refinance with XXXX, a subsidiary of Navient unbeknownst to me. My loan number XXXX coincidently is the same account number as my original loan with Navient.
