Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer
Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled
Consumer Complaint: For nearly the last year I have continued to be charged " unpaid fees '' for two federal loans on my account that are being handled by Navient. I've called numerous times to find out what these fees are for when I have paid the loans on time and even overpaid on the loans. On XX/XX/XXXX I made a payment for {$37.00}, the unpaid fee total and decided to look into 1. How long I'd been paying such fees and 2. Why my payments though directed, were not being allocated to these said fees. On XX/XX/XXXX after my payment on XX/XX/XXXX was processed, the fees were once more charged ; so I called. The representative that I spoke to at that time could not answer as to what the fees were for and why the loan payments, though directed, were not being applied to these fees. First, she said that they were applied to the back of the loan, but couldn't answer as to what the fees were specifically. Then, she said that they were late fees. When I asked why I was charged late fees on loans paid on time she could not answer and reverted to saying that they were fees applied to the back of the loan. Out of frustration I hung up. On XX/XX/XXXX I made a payment, again for these unpaid fees of {$37.00}. Then on XX/XX/XXXX I made another payment for these unpaid fees of {$37.00}. Totaling {$75.00}. I logged in on XX/XX/XXXX and there is another fee of {$37.00}, so I called Navient. I again was told that they were late fees on the account. I have made on time payments for these loans for more than a year, therefore, shouldn't have been charged late fees and no one at Navient can seem to explain to me why I keep being charged them and/or why every time I have paid them they are still showing on the account.

Consumer Complaint: Continued calls to myself, my sister, my brother-in-law, my parents, my nephews, and my brother. Calls often are multiple calls in a row, threatening towards my family and disrespectful comments to my family members, disclosing information about the delinquency of my loan which I did not believe was allowed. If they want to harass me fine but family throughout this COVID pandemic is unacceptable and needs to stop.

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan
Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments
Consumer Complaint: I borrowed {$70000.00} from XXXX XXXX over a 5 year period for my undergraduate education. Upon graduation, Navient tacked on {$56000.00} in interest! That is somewhere between 75-80 % of what I borrowed ( XXXX each year and XXXX tacked on in interest ). I put moving out and traveling on hold because I couldnt afford to do those things and pay my student loans. Ive made monthly payments of around {$1200.00} to Navient. Finally, I had to get it adjusted and extend the life of the loan because I couldnt afford the payments. I was living paycheck to paycheck and penny to penny just trying to make the payments. I feared they would ruin my credit if I didnt make the payments. The interest rates continued to rise, as well as, the payments. After a few years I just couldnt do it anymore. Two years ago, my parents re-mortgaged their house just so I could pay off the Navient loans and get away from such an awful company. Navient got all their money and I began paying my parents refinanced mortgage. I still have 13 years left to pay the refinanced mortgage. This whole process was awful! I went to school to become a teacher and I am supposed to encourage students to go to college. How do I do that when I know first hand what awful, evil companies are out there just looking to take advantage of teenagers. I am aware of the Navient lawsuit, but XXXX cant find any information if this lawsuit covers people who recently ( within 2-3 years ) paid off Navient. Paid off isnt the right words since really all I did was get another loan to get away from Navient.

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan
Consumer Complaint: On XXXX I received an email from Navient ( Loan servicer ) stating that my loans were being transferred to XXXX XXXX New Loan Servicer ) stating in a few weeks my loans would be transferred to XXXX. Navient included a checklist of what to expect and that not much would change that I would be working with AidVantage instead of Navient, so I called to see if I needed to do anything or if my payments was due, I was told that no payment was due and I was reminded that the Virus delay was due to end and my payments would resume in XX/XX/XXXX. On the morning of XX/XX/XXXX I checked my credit to find that Navient had placed a 30 day past due collection on my credit report as of XX/XX/XXXX. Remind you, I had contacted them, they had contacted me and I was never informed that any loan was in the repayment process, let alone past due. I'm very upset with Navient, they did the same thing once before in XXXX of last year, only difference they put a 90 day default on my credit report during the 1st mandated Presidential delay of repayment for student loans and they did not remove the default notice on that one either. Navient has a practice of student loan payment abuse, which is noted in XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX and also in XXXX XXXX. XXXX XXXX XXXX. Navient should be held accountable for the distruction they are causing in borrowers ' lives, with falsifying repayment documentation. None of these federal loans should have been in any repayment process during this time.

Consumer Complaint: The only 'supportive ' options Navient has offered when one struggles with student loan repayment are options that if you select them, your student loan amount increases and increases. When in coversation with customer agents they offer forebearance as one of the only options ( over and over and over and over again ) but each time you select forebearance your loan increases exponentially so that if you were having trouble paying before, you now REALLY can't afford your payments. When you point this out to the customer service agent they are silent and go right back to the options available. " I can start you on forebearance today and that will bring you current ... '' The problem with student loan interest and management is that the debt increases exponentially due to extremely high interest rates but your income does not increase exponentially at a rate that ever makes the loan payment affordable. So you are in an endless cycle of coming 'from behind " while you sit back and watch the student loan debt amount get bigger and bigger and bigger. It is like being an indentured servant. The demoralization of this trap really can make one feel hopeless and want to give up... then, you live your whole life with a gray cloud over your head.

Consumer Complaint: Through out the freeze Navient has consistently advised that I had to make payments even though there was a freeze by the government. Also they have collecting/charging interest on my loan when they should have From 2020 to now. They also advised I must redo my IDR prior to what is on XXXX and when you reach out to them they do not answer you in full. They will blame you or anyone but themselves. Prior to 2020 they never told people how to apply for forgiveness.

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled
Consumer Complaint: I have tried to resolve this issue with a navient and they act as though the issue is resolved before the call is over but then I get erroneous letters that only go to my Navient XXXX that do not match what we discussed. In XX/XX/XXXX I received notice that it was time to renew XXXX. I submitted requirements by the deadline and it was approved XX/XX/XXXX. Beginning XX/XX/XXXX I was to pay {$23.00} per month. I logged into the Navient site on XX/XX/XXXX and my payment stated that I owed {$140.00} XXXX knew that wasn't correct, based off the letter I received but did not want my credit to be effected so I paid it. I logged in sometime after XX/XX/XXXX to see if it was corrected and it XXXX not I called and was told my monthly payment was {$130.00}, I eventually asked for documentation because the site had greyed out my XXXX agreement and it was not accessible. I spoke to another representative who stated that the accounts were not aligned correctly on the same payment schedule and one she corrected it she advised me that my payment amount was no longer displaying a payment of {$130.00}, but {$22.00}. She advised me that the change should be available to view within XXXX hours, so wait to make payment. Around XX/XX/XXXX, I logged in and paid {$25.00}. Then, around XXXX, Navient sent me a delinquency notice for payment of about {$15.00}, stating that they had not received payment for XX/XX/XXXX. I could clearly see the payments reflected on XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX, but again I cant allow my credit to be compromised so I paid the {$15.00} on XX/XX/XXXX. I have now paid 7 months of my required payment and even prior to this incident the billing has been extremely sketchy. Can some one please review this company and their practices because I feel that they are taking advantage of me and I can not get anyone in this company to make this make sense. I am extremely upset that I have made over {$180.00} in payments for one payment they was supposed to only be {$23.00}! And they have the nerve to send me an erroneous delinquency letter, when in fact they owe me. You have my permission to dive as deep as necessary into the lifetime of my loan with this company. I have been trying to have them explain to me since XX/XX/XXXX, why my balance states {$140.00} with no clarity. I have made several payments to avoid late fees that come to nearly {$700.00} and they just keep taking the payments and telling me I owe more and more. This is not right. I am a single parent and can not keep this nonsense up in our current economic state. I'm exhausted working overtime to pay balances that should not be. Please review and take necessary action to resolve this unethical activity that is going on with my account. Thank you.
