Issue: Struggling to repay your loan
Subissue: Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan
Consumer Complaint: In XXXX of XXXX I notified Navient that I had gone through a divorce and that my income had plummeted by {$90000.00}. I was barely making {$15000.00} a year and the loss of my now ex-husband 's income was financially devastating. Navient told me to get a second job, that they did not do income based repayment plans, and also suggested that I rent my spare room out to make the payments. I struggled to make the payments and started falling behind those payments in XXXX. Navient sent me a litigation notice late XXXX. I filed for bankruptcy in XXXX. That is when Navient sent my private student loan to XXXX XXXX. In XXXX of XXXX, I received a letter from Navient stating that they didn't have the correct address on file for me, despite me living at the same address for 7 years at that point. They also sent me a bill for $ XXXX and the due date was one week away! I called them and explained that I had very low income and that I could not pay the amount they wanted me to pay. They went through my income with me and still insisted that I made enough to pay the amount they wanted. I told them that I have XXXX small children living with me and that did not matter nor was it taken into consideration during their income status questionnaire. I put my loans in deferment in XXXX of XXXX. Navient had originally said that I could put my loans in deferment for 6 months but the actual deferment period was only 4 months. When my deferment was over, I tried again to explain to them my situation. They did not tell me that I didn't have to disclose my alimony payments in my income information and tricked me into disclosing that information. They asked for that information and did not say that I did not have to disclose it. They also said that my federal loan did not qualify for the student loan repayment pause issued by the United States government. At this point I quit trying to work with them. Navient has- Sent my private student loan ( originally a XXXX bank loan ) to a collection agency called XXXX XXXX in XXXX during my bankruptcy. Navient has- not followed the federal guidelines placed on my federal loans and have been trying to collect on those loans since XXXX of XXXX. Navient has- called me at least 10 times a day for the past six months. They are starting to call my family members to collect the debt. Navient has- Sent me a litigation notice. Navient has- Ruined my credit even further by putting my federal loan in default as of XXXX of XXXX. Combined, both the private and federal loans total to about {$75000.00}.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX XXXX sent me an alert that my credit score had been updated. Navient reported that I was 90 days delinquent on XXXX XXXX. The United States is on a student loan freeze, and my income based repayment plan was reaffirmed back in XXXX. Navient said it expired in XX/XX/XXXX, but my payments were {$0.00}. Now, in XXXX theyre saying Im 90 days past due and I have never had an issue until now. Amounts are reported as XXXX, {$7600.00}, {$2500.00}, and {$1800.00}. I have disputes this with XXXX and the Ohio Attorney Generals office. I just want the 90 day delinquency removed from my credit report since it hit my credit hard and I have never been late and were on a federal student loan freeze. Since they changed my credit report, they have put me on a forbearance to get my past due balance caught up, and my income based payment plan is back in effect. I have another student loan servicer and I dont have any issues with them or their credit reporting.

Consumer Complaint: I refinanced my loans with NaviRefi after repeated emails that were spaced approximately 4 days apart beginning in XXXX. I finally refinanced with them beginning on XX/XX/XXXX. I was not notified specifically that the loans that they refinanced were federal loans. The representative went through the list of loans, and by interest rate they were refinanced. These loans were federal loans that I have now lost the ability to gain forgiveness on although I am eligible for PSLF. They used their contract with the government to be able to access not only my loans they were servicing but other federal loans to benefit. It is another case of Navient benefiting at the cost of their borrowers. I contacted them this evening to obtain the information from my loans as well, as none of the information is on their website. Due to their required transparency PSLF eligible borrowers are now being notified, however, they did not do their due diligence prior to converting my federal loan into a private one.

Consumer Complaint: I received a letter from Navient dated XX/XX/2022. Navient is telling me to avoid FEDERAL loan default, although, I made numerous attempts to clear miscommunications. They continue to make untruthful statements about my character and following the XXXX process. The emails keep stating I am being unresponsive. Please Reference Consumer Financial Protection Bureau ID XXXX with Navient Receipt of Concern Case XXXX. Consumer Complaint: We have continuously been paying over {$500.00} a month to Navient, however, they still report late or non payment default on 5 of the loans, I am unable to make payments of any more than that because I am XXXX as of XX/XX/2020 and this is 1/2 my XXXX payment from the government and my physicians refuse to sign the letter to dismiss my student loans because of fear of legality which I am verified XXXX from XXXX and have not and can not return to work or complete my studies because of brain damage. We get a call every hour to two hours a day to threaten and harass us to pay. It is very disheartening even with me calling the XXXX student loan line that they can not get them to stop harassment even when Biden said that we would get a hold while in pandemic, it became even worse harassment they call from a Tennessee number every hour to two hours, everyday of the week, we have asked nicely to stop and to spread that amount across all 5 loans and they still have not.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2022, Navient reported to XXXX that my student loan account was more than 100 days past due. 1. Navient, at the time, was not the servicer of my student loans, having been terminated by US D of ED for savaging borrowers ; 2. No student loans were due in the 100 days prior to, by order of POTUS ; 3. Navient, prior to their report, and due to # 2, denied me access to their payment portal because of # 1 above. My credit score moved from XXXX ( excellent ) to XXXX ( fair ) effectively walling me out of affordable credit. My credit score should not reflect late payments from a company that was not the creditor, for payments it refused to accept, and for a loan portfolio that is not theirs. Navient should be held financially liable for this malicious and capricious " parting shot. '' US D of ED advised me to work it out with Navient, a bit like going back to the mugger to beg your wallet back. XXXX advised that Navient has assured XXXX everything is AOK. Navient, at the time, was not the servicer, no payments were due, and Navient had actively and deliberately blocked me from making payments for more than 100 days.

Consumer Complaint: I XXXX in XXXX with a XXXX XXXX XXXX and took additional classes in the early XXXX. When I had trouble with an upcoming payment, the servicer, Navient, would automatically enter me into a forbearance for the maximum length and I would take it, rather than going into default. They told me that was the only way, unless I made the payment on time. In recent years ( I believe it was XXXX ), I was told by Navient that I could do an income-driven repayment plan only IF I consolidated my loans. I was NEVER told this would restart my payment count!! I've been paying for decades and never would have consolidated had I known it would erase all those years of paying. My balance is now much higher than when I started and I have never been in default. Now, it's been over 20 years of paying and the forgiveness offered in XXXX gave me hope. But XXXX just told me only XXXX payments I've made count : ( I'm so devastated. How can my servicers repeatedly guide me to options that hurt me and it's ok for them to do that???
