Issue: Closing an account
Subissue: Can't close your account
Consumer Complaint: I have been trying to close my account with M & T Bank for several months. The company keeps taking monthly fees and makes it impossible to close the account. At first I asked for the fees to be refunded or I would be closing the account. I tried to bring new funds into the account to prevent the fees, but the system to valdiate the debit card to arrange external transfers was not working. I eventually was able to validate my debit card after about 2 months. I told them cancel the account via online banking, then via phone. The company tells me I need to go in branch - This is impossible as I am currently located in texas due to working disaster recovery for hurricane harvey. I was then told the only option is to send in an account closure request via mail. This is an absolutely ludicrous company. The online banking interface is sub par, and they seem to not be up to 21st century standards.

Consumer Complaint: The financial institution informed me that a person with good credit was offered a home equity line of credit with a 3.49 % annual percentage rate. My situation with this financial institution was that I had an outstanding line of credit in the payback mode at a varying rate which was the prime rate less 0,5 %. or currently 3.75 %. I was under the premise that since I knew that my credit rating was excellent presently then my loan rate should be similar to this other noted individual who received a 3.49 % rate. An appraisal was done where the financial institution had my property appraised. The appraised value was {$110000.00}. The bank then took 85 % of that amount and determined that my line of credit would only be {$93000.00} which was {$6500.00} less than the SUPPOSED {$100000.00} value needed for the rate of 3.49 %. The bank did not recognize my free standing garage as a free standing garage but labeled the free standing garage a shed. This was incorrect since my free standing garage is 20 feet long by 12 feet wide by 13 feet high. The bank was informed of this fact but refused to change the original incorrect appraisal but indicated that an inside the home appraisal would be required .Thus I disagreed with their conclusion and since my faith in the bank 's credibility was now in question. I was apprehensive about the bank giving me a better appraisal value once inside the home since both my kitchen and bathroom .would be subject to criticism since no changes were made to major appliances and real estate fixtures in 25 years. In summary the bank offered me 5.24 % after baiting me with these lower interest rates.

Issue: Getting a loan or lease
Subissue: Fraudulent loan
Consumer Complaint: Complaint already filed on XXXX XXXX of XXXX being worked on separately. I hate to file this on the bank but I have no other choice. I purchased a brand new travel trailer on XXXX XXXX, by XXXX XXXX, I still had received no merchandise for the loan they took out on me. As of XXXX XXXX, I was advised that XXXX XXXX was in the process of flat cancelling the loan. I have gotten nothing but lies from both companies. I have filed complaints and ca n't get returned calls. On XXXX M & T Bank confirmed to me they had received the collateral from XXXX XXXX to flat cancel the loan and my account would show updated and closed on Monday. I have been more than patient but am now questioning if either company is telling me the truth. Today is XXXX and the loan is still showing open and accruing interest. What on the earth is the hold up? I ca n't deal with this stress much longer. It is killing me! Thanks for any help in reaching out to this company. Attached is the documentation for the conversations between the bank rep and myself. This has gone on for far too long.

Consumer Complaint: M & T Bank has stolen payment of {$89.00}, XXXX from me as they have received a lump sum payment and is in violation of many laws including pyramiding late fees, escrow violations and misapplied payments. M & T Bank 's refusal to correct their records since spring of XX/XX/XXXX has resulted in my credit suffering and my land being auctioned in a tax foreclosure sale for M & T Bank 's failure to pay the property taxes. I received a mortgage bill as recent as XX/XX/XXXX that billed for taxes and insurance, etc and for what? There was a home fire in XX/XX/XXXX and no insurance has been needed for that vacant lot that has remained since XX/XX/XXXX. Why have I been billed for insurance that is not possible to obtain? Why am I billed for property taxes they failed to pay and now my land is foreclosed upon? Why do I get offers to modify my loan, yet no simple correction and return of my funds. Why does M & T Bank bill for maintenance when the lot was maintained by the City of XXXX? Per the attached records, not only was the property foreclosed on by XXXX XXXX in XX/XX/XXXX for UNPAID taxes I received a mortgage statement in XX/XX/XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX and so on ... None of these statements have removed taxes and insurance from them.

Issue: Managing an account
Subissue: Problem using a debit or ATM card
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, I called because my card was not working I was informed due to an previously overdrawn account and inactivity there was a hold placed on my debit card. But since my direct deposit was available and had satisfied the overdrawn amount the hold was taken off my card. My debit card worked all day XX/XX/XXXX. On XX/XX/XXXX, I tried to use my card at an atm and the atm said the transaction was cancelled please contact your bank. I tried to call the Telephone banking Center, which was having technical issues causing an automate voice to tell you they were having issues and to call back later. It was a few minutes before closing at the physical bank. I went through the drive through since the lobby was closed I explained what was happening and that I had the available funds to make a w/d but needed a counter check. The gentleman smiled and said sorry we ca n't help you because the lobby is closed. I pushed back and requested if an exception can be made due to the circumstance and he said no. Nor did he attempt to see why my card was inactive or present any other option. I later called the telephone bank center after several attempts and almost a half an hour wait I spoke with a representative who was great. He was able to find out that my card was closed for on XX/XX/XXXX due to more than 30 days of inactivity. Which confused us both since I used my card the day before, XX/XX/XXXX. He kindly gave me a number to contact XXXX directly to see if they could get me funds since the issue with my card was an error.

Consumer Complaint: On or about XXXX XXXX, I attempted to deposit 68 XXXX series savings bonds into an existing account at M & T bank in XXXX, DE. I was informed by the branch the bonds had to be sent to their main branch for processing. Long story short, after two weeks and being told they were still being processed, I received a call stating the bank no longer processes bonds. Even though the bonds were not processed, the bank stamped them and now the bonds can not be cashed by another bank. In order to cash them, the original bank needs to send me a letter giving the treasury permission to cancel the stamp in addition to submitting a special form to the treasury and now mailing them into the treasury.
