Issue: Problem caused by your funds being low
Subissue: Overdrafts and overdraft fees
Consumer Complaint: On numerous occasions I have been subject for multiple overdraft fees with M & T Bank. When transactions are pending, but I still have an available balance, I am prompt to transfer the money necessary to cover the potential negative amount. However, at least twice a month I am charged anywhere from {$300.00} - {$500.00} in overdraft fees. I would like this to be reviewed and corrected.

Subissue: Attempted to collect wrong amount
Consumer Complaint: I closed my credit card and checking account with M & T in XX/XX/2019. The balances of both accounts was {$0.00} when they were closed and I was informed by the bank that no further charges could be made on the accounts. On XX/XX/2019, I received notices from credit monitoring services of a past due amount associated with the credit card account. I do not have access to this account and received no notifications related to any collection attempts. In addition, there should be no balance since I closed the account at {$0.00} and your bank should not have accepted any further charges, consist with what I was told when I closed the account. I contacted the bank via email ( XXXX ) on XX/XX/XXXX and have not received a response. I called the customer service line ( XXXX ) and spoke with XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX and discovered that the total balance due was approximately {$100.00}, with {$35.00} of that being from late fees, {$57.00} in charges, and the remaining amount being from interest. The customer service department agreed to reverse the late fee and forwarded me to the collections department to discuss the balance due. I spoke with XXXX in collections and was informed that the account was no longer accessible to the collections department. She indicated that the company 's policy was to keep the account 3 months in collections and 3 months in recovery, but my account had apparently been handed off to collections after 3 months and M & T no longer had access to it. To reiterate, I have not received any notifications of any type from either the bank or a collection agency.

Consumer Complaint: The beginning of this year started off bad for my family and I. I called M & T Bank looking for some type of assistance, which I feel that I was not successful in receiving and was lied to which resulted in additional months going by. M & T Bank will not accept any funds from me unless it is the full 8 months past due. I was told to apply for a loan modification even thought I told the representatives that I had received a modification within the last 24 months and I don't qualify for another one. I was told I would be fine and there are other options to help me catch up forbearance, repayment plan, etc all of which I was denied. When I first started asking for assistance i was around 5-6 months delinquent now I am 8 months delinquent. I have 6 of the 8 payments that are past due, but M & T is refusing to accept and payments or work with me at all. I had a representative by the name of XXXX or XXXX both verbally tell me and notate my account that I can make the 6 payments and when I called back to do that I was denied. I don't know why there is so much misinformation and incomplete answers from this company.

Issue: Closing on a mortgage
Subissue:
Consumer Complaint: I have my house up for sale where I was supposed to close on XX/XX/2019 and the payoff for M & T Bank was {$74000.00} for mortgage loan XXXX. I had to reschedule to close on XX/XX/2019 where the payoff for M & T Bank is now {$76000.00} which is a {$1500.00} INCREASE in a six ( 6 ) day period. There should not be this amount due to that the XX/XX/2019 payoff included interest up to XX/XX/2019. I feel and know that I am being " OVERCHARGED '' on this mortgage loan before Closing and this is 'not ' the first time M & T Bank has overcharged my mortgage loan account. I need the payoff amount corrected which should be close to XXXX XXXX dollars more and not the XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX dollars and XXXX cents. PLEASE HELP

Issue: Trouble during payment process
Subissue:
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, the mortgage company informed me that my mortgage was in foreclosure status and I had to pay the full past due amount of {$9500.00} via XXXX XXXX to keep my account from being assigned an attorney. On XX/XX/XXXX, I paid {$9500.00} via XXXX XXXX. The payments were broken down into three payments {$4000.00} - {$1500.00} - {$4000.00}. I had to break them up because XXXX XXXX will only allow you to send a specific amount at one time. All of the payments were sent on the same day. I called the mortgage company from XXXX XXXX and provided them with the tracking numbers. This should have made my mortgage current with my next payment due in XX/XX/XXXX. I called the mortgage company about a week and a half later because I did not see my account updated in full ( missing {$4000.00} ). The mortgage company stated they needed to do research on the payment in order to locate it. I have called almost every other week looking for a resolution. The mortgage company has told me on at least three occasions that they were going to initiate a new research on the payment. On XX/XX/XXXX, I inquired as to why it's taking so long to update my account. On XX/XX/XXXX, the mortgage company stated they were waiting for me to send in receipts. However, no one ever asked me for receipts. I then hung up the telephone with the bank and immediately faxed all of the receipts. I followed up with a telephone call the next week to inquire about the status. I was told they received the receipts but again that they needed to research it. On XX/XX/XXXX, I was informed that the research was completed but the money was not located. I then questioned the whereabouts of my {$4000.00}. I was told they were going to research the payment again. On XX/XX/XXXX, I was informed that my {$4000.00} was sent back to XXXX XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX and my account is still behind. XXXX XXXX informed me that the {$4000.00} check they sent to the mortgage company was cashed and they do not have a record of the monies being returned. Concerns : Only two of the three payments were posted in XX/XX/XXXX although all three payments were made together. The mortgage company cashed the check with the missing {$4000.00} Why would the mortgage company send the money back on XX/XX/XXXX instead of posting it to my account Why would the mortgage company continue to say they couldn't locate the funds when in fact they cashed the check. How can they send my mortgage back into foreclosure status when I paid the money as agreed. This is still unresolved almost four months later, my {$4000.00} is missing and they have stopped applying payments to my mortgage. I'm concerned about sending them more money.

I was promised a resolution but got none.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2019, opened sole proprietorship business account. On XX/XX/2019, called to close account as I will be moving to a state that does not have M & T Bank branch locations. Upon attempting to close, representative first advised {$50.00} fee for early closure. Upon asking the terms, representative could not confirm if this was for closure within 6 months or 180 days ( both of which did not apply in my case ). After being placed on considerable hold, representative advised that any account closure was subject to fee of {$50.00}.

Consumer Complaint: M & T refuses to answer my numerous email phone calls and messages. I have also contacted the office of the president and I get no response either. I made a deposit on XX/XX/26 of {$1200.00} confirmation XXXX and my money was withdrawn but never put into my other checking account. Where is my money? Also, M & T promises that when you do transfers that the funds will be available the next morning. This is not the case. Once again I have incurred over {$700.00} in NSF fees because I do transfers but the money doesnt deposit. This is one of numerous situations. M & T owes me my {$1200.00} as well as my {$700.00} in NSF fees for not depositing money on time.
