Issue: Closing an account
Subissue: Company closed your account
Consumer Complaint: Summary : Shortly after I froze my credit and debit cards due to theft, Chase bank emptied my checking and saving accounts. Over a month later, I am still unable to access the {$95000.00} that Chase withdrew from my accounts. I have received no explanation as to why they have taken this action, nor a timeline for resolution. XX/XX/XXXX : My wallet was stolen in XXXX XXXX, CA. I froze all of my credit and debit cards. XX/XX/XXXX : As I was leaving town for a trip, I received a notification that my checking and saving accounts had a negative balance. I find that my checking account and saving account were drained in entirety ( {$72000.00} and {$22000.00}, respectively ) with description Debit DDA - Check Charge. I called Chase who advised me to visit a branch. I also notified the Chase rep of a fraudulent {$25.00} taxi charge from XX/XX/XXXX and the amount was refunded. XX/XX/XXXX : I visited a Chase branch in XXXX, PA. I spoke with two agents, both of whom assured me that this is a straightforward fraud case that will be resolved through replacing my existing Chase accounts with new accounts into which my preexisting ( inaccessible to me ) balance would be transferred. One of the branchs agents called a Chase Fraud Expert and deliberated for some time, after which they each informed us that both of my Chase accounts had been intentionally drained by Chase in preparation of permanent closure for an undisclosable reason. On the bright side, we are told that we will receive the original balance via a check in the mail ( in ~10 business days ). Before I left, I transferred a direct deposit that had been posted the same day into my partners account ( as advised by the chase rep ). XX/XX/XXXX : I received a notification from Chase that my credit report had an update. I created an XXXX account and saw a hard inquiry for a loan on a car at XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX in XXXX XXXX , CA . I froze my credit file and contacted the loan issuer to notify them of the fraud. I froze my credit with all three major bureaus and disputed the hard inquiry. XX/XX/XXXX : I called Chase customer service to get confirmation that the accounts were really being closed and to see if somebody could tell me why. No explanation was given. XX/XX/XXXX : I called the Chase customer service number to get a status update on the check. I was told that the check was " being processed '' and it would take an undisclosed amount of time before I would receive it and a letter with details about the account closure in the mail. XX/XX/XXXX : I was locked out of my Chase online accounts ( can no longer log in and see account or credit card information ) XX/XX/XXXX : I called an agent from the branch visit on XX/XX/XXXX to inquire about check status. He stated that something in my account needed to be closed before checks could be sent out. He said he would call me back with updates. I have not heard from him since. XX/XX/XXXX : I return home from my trip to find two letters dated XX/XX/XXXX informing me that my accounts were restricted and to be closed due to potential fraud. XX/XX/XXXX : I called Chase to inquire about the check status. I was told that the check I was expecting had been destroyed and that there is no check being mailed. My account is under review and nothing will happen until the review is complete. I was given no details on what caused the review and how long the review might take. I am to receive a callback from " the back office '' within 2 business days. The call resulted in complaint id XXXX ( documents my request to receive the funds that are not being returned to me, submitted to the back office team ) XXXX : I called Chase back after waiting the suggested 2 business days and they have no new information ( only that the back office is still " working on it '' ). Their only advice is to call back periodically to inquire the account status. XX/XX/XXXX ( Today ) : I am still unable to access my funds with no estimate as to when I might receive it. I have no idea why the account was closed or what caused the account review. I am periodically calling chase back and they wont tell me anything about the status of my account or when I may receive the funds that were in the closed account. I am told that I am permanently banned from all Chase services, yet my credit cards still work and I have not received any official notice confirming this report. I just want my money back but Chase demonstrates no interest in fulfilling that.

Consumer Complaint: On Thursday, XX/XX/2023, I flew to XXXX XXXX, LA with the attorney I work for to meet a new client who was relocating to the New York area. The evening of the XXXX, I went to some bars, the last one was the XXXX, and that is the last thing I remember until I woke up in my hotel room the next day. I discovered that my debit card, my mobile phone and my driver 's license were missing. Instead of staying in XXXX XXXX until the XXXX to fly home with my employer, I decided to return that evening at my own expense ( {$310.00} ). The following day, the XXXX, I filed a police report with the XXXX XXXX Police Dept. My mother filed a claim with XXXX, who insures my mobile phone, and she paid the {$220.00} deductible since I had no money, and my new phone was delivered the next day and a technician came to set up the phone. My mother also filed a claim with XXXX under her homeowners policy, but it turned out that money isn't covered. I went to Chase in XXXX, NJ four separate times and put on the phone with different people, the last time being a XXXX in the Escalation Dept. Each time I was told I authorized the XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX {$3400.00} and the XXXX withdrawals totaling {$600.00} because my PIN number was stolen even though I told Chase my PIN was on my mobile phone. With all my money gone, I wasn't able to make my monthly payment for my XXXX XXXX loan, after making payment for XXXX years, and getting my debt down to {$120000.00}. My elderly mother, whose only income is social security had to make my {$350.00} car payment and pay the {$220.00} deductible to XXXX so I could get another phone. I usually try to help my elderly parents and give them money to pay their bills. This is causing a terrible hardship, not only for me, but also for my parents financially. First I was victimized by a thief, and now I have been victimized by Chase. Chase never did any investigation like contacting the XXXX XXXX Police Dept. or XXXX XXXX How can Chase believe that I authorized someone to make XXXX XXXX XXXX and then even overdraw my account and have Chase penalize the owner of the account just because the PIN was used after I told Chase at least four separate times that my PIN was on my mobile phone, which was stolen along with my debit card and even driver 's license.

Consumer Complaint: I sold my house on XX/XX/23 and received two checks for the purchase. I picked up the checks on XX/XX/23 and deposited the checks in my checking account at Chase Bank where I have been a customer for over 40 years. When asked how soon we would have access to the funds, we were told it would take until XX/XX/23. This did not make sense given that one check was a cashiers check from a local ( XXXX, NY ) credit union and the other check was drawn on the buyers attorneys account from another local bank. I have followed up with my branch ( Chase in XXXX, NY ) in person and by phone ( who has tried to be helpful by requesting that the hold be lifted by whichever department puts a hold on checks ) to no avail. I also called the Chase XXXX number to request directly - I was initially told no and then asked to hold while the person said she would check on it ( she put me on hold and never came back to the line ). So, why cant I get access to my money and who has use of my funds? I have a mortgage on my new property and am responsible for {$70.00} per day in interest charges to pay off my loan. I am told it is to protect against fraud. Exactly how many days should this process take? Why can Chase move huge amounts for someone like XXXX XXXX but not give a XXXX XXXX access to the funds from a local house sale? Something is not right when no one can tell you who has use of that money for this amount of time.

Consumer Complaint: During the XXXX year I was billed for charges I disputed. Amazon/Chase would resolve it after I complained and credit my account. After this occurred several times including into XXXX I decided to cancel my Amazon XXXX account/Chase Visa card. I verified in XX/XX/2023 with Chase that my account had been closed and they would not/had not sent another Visa card to my address. In XXXX, I had my XXXX contact Chase Visa with my approval to make sure they had not sent another card. They confirmed they had not. Imagine my surprise and horror when, XX/XX/2023, I received another bill from Chase Visa billing me for over {$400.00}. I asked them to do a fraud investigation. They said they already had and determined, " I had benefitted from those purchases. '' All were through Amazon XXXX AND I NEVER ONCE received emails validating those purchases so I never, ever knew about them until a bill showed up. I filed an Identity theft and fraud charge with our local Sheriff 's Dept. Because the account had been closed in XXXX, they said I needed to file with the Federal Trade Commission which led me to this site.

Consumer Complaint: I was informed by XXXX XXXX on XX/XX/2023 that there was a hard inquiry on my credit report from XXXX XXXX Chase. I contacted Chase and they told me that a credit application for a XXXX XXXX XXXX was processed, approved and an account opened. I told them that this was not me and they informed me that identify theft has occured because whoever opened the account would have had to supply my social security number. They immediately closed the account and placed a fraud alert with XXXX which they said will also activate a fraud alert with XXXX and XXXX. At the same time I placed a freeze on my credit report for all XXXX credit bureaus. I also signed up with XXXX ( XXXX XXXX XXXX ) so the fraud would not continue since now my social security number was out there. I then called back XXXX to dispute the hard inquiry since it was a result of identity theft.

Consumer Complaint: Chase advertise about 5 % APY on CD account, so I opened one on line funded from my saving account, but after the action, the account show 0 % interest rate, then I went to the local branch to figure out why, and it turns out there is a small footprint of needing associated checking account only. since this does not make sense, I tried to let the banker to help me to correct this. and I was informed to wait 7 days. but 7 days later, my CD account is freezed, and my XXXX funding shows XXXX Balance and while my save account has already been cleared of the fund, and no one in the bank knows where is my XXXX balance.
