Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement
Subissue: Card was charged for something you did not purchase with the card
Consumer Complaint: I am writing to file a formal complaint concerning a series of unauthorized transactions on my credit card account and the subsequent denial of my request for a refund. The unauthorized charges occurred between XX/XX/2023 and XXXX XXXX, this card was lost with fraudulent transactions. I became aware of these unauthorized transactions on Around second week of XXXX. I noticed that because I lost My card, and I immediately contacted Chase customer service department to report the unauthorized transactions and to request an investigation into these matters. I promptly reported these unauthorized charges to customer service department, and I was assured that a thorough investigation would be conducted. However, I was disappointed to check my statement and to see those charges continued in there, I called, and their response on dated XX/XX/XXXX and XXXX XXXX by Manager, stating " that your investigation found the transactions to be valid and that the charges would not be refunded. Which called again and the response of this first agent XXXX was change were valid, I asked them how they did the investigation and get into this decision, and their unacceptable response was because you XXXX XXXX XXXX refused to cooperate to call " every merchant '' department, and every merchant refused to response our request and I reply how dare you to tell me to do your job, I hang out. On the following week of XXXX, I spoke with XXXX recuperation department and several agents all different answers nonsense. On XX/XX/XXXX I spoke with XXXX, different answers they denied the investigation now due to lack from the merchants to answers their request! incredible. I request to reopen this matter and they refused without Zero legal and consist of answer. On XX/XX/XXXX I called and spoke now with XXXX, this agent notifies me after explaining him what happening that I only need to send a card transaction, working hrs., purchase receipt, or something with any of the dates of this fraudulent transaction and which I did, I upload evidence that I can't be in the same times same places. On XX/XX/XXXX I spoke with supervisor XXXX she said they can approve these fraudulent transactions because I did not call to every merchant to request evidence ( literally do their job! again! ) and also, because the merchant is not answering their request. and for that reason, is denied! Note : no matter which one of this is the reason is unacceptable the incompetent people working this and not doing their jobs for what we pay for and for us they have these jobs.!!! and CHASE is very clear in their policies about fraud protection and zero responsibility to the customer... ) I strongly disagree with this decision, as I have taken all necessary precautions to safeguard my credit card information and have not authorized or participated in these transactions.as well as proof of my whereabouts during the times the transactions occurred. I understand now that CHASE BANK company IT IS NOT takes credit card fraud seriously and is committed to protecting its customers and violation of their own policies and regulations. I urge you to take seriously this decision and conduct a more comprehensive investigation into these unauthorized transactions. I escalate this matter further, including filing a complaint with regulatory authorities. I am hopeful that we can resolve this matter amicably and in a timely manner. Please respond to this complaint, either by email or in writing, confirming the initiation of a thorough investigation and the expected resolution date. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt response and the resolution of this dispute.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2023 XXXX my fiance deposited a check in his name for {$1000.00}. into my account at Chase bank ATM. The ATM receipt informs us of a 10 day hold that has been placed on the check as well as my account. This has NEVER happened before. I call immediately. The representative lied, said this was standard practice. I called back in the morning as I already had a feeling this was not right. Then began the process of many phone calls and failed attempts to fix the situation. Chase says they needed to verify my finances identity to release the funds. Every which way we could do this was somehow not an option for us. Pre pandemic, I had a Chase account for at least a decade, with many transactions proving my history with Chase and proof of transactions just like this one. That account closed while I was in the hospital so I had to open a new one. Chase then said my old account transactions are too old to use as proof. They also changed their policy, where we could no longer go into the bank in person with XXXX forms of ID as proof of identity. Implemented only XXXX weeks prior ( what we we're told ) without any knowledge to us. A notarized letter was not acceptable either. They said the only way to verify his identity would be to call him on a phone number verfied by them. Although Chase had several numbers for my fiance some of them were old and no longer in service. The numbers he has available to call they said could not be verified by their system. I even had our cell provider make sure my finances phone number is public record as his own, which we pay for. Chase still cant verify it. They say that his phone number comes up in their system but with someone elses name. I'm just at a loss at this point. If you XXXX banks that accept XXXX party checks, Chase is listed as one of them. Only that, if not endorsed properly, you can incurre fee. Even the utilities at my address, that chase has on file, are in his name. They said I violated my customer agreement, put a XXXX business day hold, where i couldn't use my account at all, and then closed my account and kept the check, when the matter couldn't be resolve in time. I was told that the check amount is now held in suspense for up to 2 years unless this can be resolved. They couldn't even tell me how a phone number is verified to try and aquire one. Further more, Chase said they did this to protect me from fraud. If they thought the check was fraudulent, why would they let it clear?, in the first place. I've noticed other stories similar to mine have to do with checks of greater amounts. All in the thousands range. Seems like a sleazy way for Chase to steal people 's money.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I initiated a transfer for {$1200.00} to my checking account at XXXX XXXX. The chase mobile app said the transfer would be completed on XX/XX/XXXX. On XX/XX/XXXX the money was still in my chase account and not in XXXX XXXX so I called chase and was transferred to fraud team. Fraud team sent a 2FA message, verified basic info and then asked me to hang up the call and call back as they could not verify. 3 calls to fraud and one visit to my local branch later, the branch instructed me that they could not close or modify my account due to the hold. Thankfully, I was able to empty out the account using XXXX, XXXX XXXX and XXXX to stop chase from stealing my funds and holding them XXXX during the complaint process. I would like Chase to close my checking account so I do not have to worry about potential fees. I saw an advertisement about banking with chase and got referred by my dad to open an account but I now realize that was a mistake.

Consumer Complaint: I have a past due amount of {$1400.00} due on the XXXX of XXXX on my Chase credit card. I started a repayment plan in XXXX to get out from under the past due amount. My payments went up and the past-due amount didn't really go down. I have made XXXX payments already on the XXXX of XXXX and XXXX for {$240.00} and have XXXX more payment scheduled on the XXXX of XXXX. I chose this specific repayment plan to get out from under the past due amount quickly and to avoid my account being closed. The past due amount has barely moved if at all and Chase closed my account anyway. The repayment plan was done over the phone and I have not been able to find any documentation of it attached to my account. But, in the description for each payment, you can see they were scheduled by a phone specialist.

Consumer Complaint: I have a Chase Marriott credit card. There was an interest free balance transfer promotion that I participated in earlier this year. I recently realized that Chase is charging me interest on new purchases as I have been using the card, even though I have been paying those new charges in full each month. A phone rep recently explained to me that the only way to avoid those interest charges is to not use the card. While I suspect this was disclosed somehow, someway, there should no question in anyone 's mind that Chase knows people will unwittingly start incurring interest charges on new purchases paid in full. The balance transfer ( for which the consumer pays a fee ) is nothing more than a way to charge interest at 20.99 % when there would otherwise be no interest paid.

Consumer Complaint: While booking United Airlines tickets, I was shown pre-approval advertisement stating {$250.00} statement credit ( if card is instantly approved ) and XXXX points after spending $ XXXX in 3 months. I have XXXX XXXX, have 3 credit cards from Chase, have not applied for any revolving credit in last year, no major outstanding debt and stable income of > $ 200k/yr. My information was shared by United and was prefilled in Chase application and the application was not instantly approved limiting my ability to take advantage of the offer with a reason provided as additional information needed to verify DOB and Address. While I completed the transaction using my existing card, I do not understand and deserve this experience being a loyal customer of Chase. I had unnecessary hit on my bureau and feel the marketing practice was deceptive. Reference number included in automated email from Chase XXXX. I dont have any utility of the card and feel Chase needs to review its decision practices especially for the customers having additional cards from them.
