Issue: Money was not available when promised

Subissue:

Consumer Complaint: I own a media company. On XX/XX/2022, I hosted a XXXX XXXX XXXX in XXXX XXXX XXXX that was sponsored by XXXX XXXX for {$11000.00}. As part of XXXX 's vendor intake process, I was required to fill out a form with my bank information ( See " XXXX XXXX '' in the attached pdf ). I accidentally provided the incorrect account number for my account at Chase Bank ( 2 digits being switched ). XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX sent wire payment instructions to Chase using the incorrect account number and the money was placed in the wrong person 's account. I provided the correct number and asked the client to issue a wire recall. XXXX XXXX XXXX did request the recall however, Chase has refused to return the funds to XXXX XXXX XXXX. Chase 's reply was that they are " waiting for Debit Authorization '' from the account holder in order to return the funds. The issue is that given the account number and beneficiary name did not match, the wire should have never been processed by Chase. Chase is simply trying to avoid liability for their own control/process failure. I've been attempting to obtain the funds for over 1 year now to no avail. Chase executive office has been avoiding my phone calls and inquiries. I have been given the run around for more than 1 year. Chase then contacted me stating that once the bank received a " Hold harmless letter '' from the client bank ( XXXX ), the funds would be returned. After another month of chasing Chase for a response, the bank stated that the funds would not be returned because " there are no funds available. '' The solution I am seeking is for Chase to return the {$11000.00} back to the client bank ( XXXX XXXX XXXX ) so that they can correctly wire the funds to my account. I have also attached a pdf that includes all of the evidence related to this case. I am not only prepared to get local NY media involved, I am prepared to notify my network of over XXXX social media followers and pursue legal action.

Issue: Improper use of your report

Consumer Complaint: Dear Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, I am writing to file a formal complaint against Chase Bank for their violation of my rights under 15 USC 6802, 15 USC 1681, 12 CFR 1016.7, and the Privacy Act of 1974. I believe that the bank has unlawfully shared my personal information without my explicit consent, and this action is a clear breach of the aforementioned statutes. Details of the Violation : Unauthorized Sharing of Information : I recently discovered that Chase Bank has shared my personal information without my explicit consent. This sharing of information has serious implications for my privacy and may have repercussions on my financial well-being. Violation of 15 USC 6802 : The bank 's actions are in direct violation of 15 USC 6802, which prohibits the unauthorized disclosure of nonpublic personal information by financial institutions. Chase Bank falls under the category of a financial institution, and the unauthorized sharing of my information is a clear violation of this statute. Violation of 15 USC 1681 : Additionally, I believe that Chase Bank has violated 15 USC 1681, the Fair Credit Reporting Act ( FCRA ). This statute outlines the responsibilities of credit reporting agencies and ensures the accuracy and privacy of consumer information. The unauthorized sharing of my information compromises the integrity of this system. Violation of 12 CFR 1016.7 : Chase Bank is also in violation of 12 CFR 1016.7, which establishes certain limitations on the disclosure of nonpublic personal information by financial institutions. The bank 's unauthorized sharing of my information goes against the provisions outlined in this regulation. Violation of the Privacy Act of 1974 : The Privacy Act of 1974 mandates the protection of personal information held by federal agencies. While Chase Bank may not be a federal agency, the act 's principles are crucial in ensuring the security and privacy of individuals ' data. The unauthorized sharing of my information constitutes a violation of the Privacy Act 's core principles. Furthermore, I want to highlight that XXXX, XXXX, XXXX, XXXX, XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX, and other nonaffiliated third parties have received my personal information without my approval. I did not consent to the sharing of my information with these entities, and their involvement exacerbates the breach of my privacy. I request that the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau thoroughly investigates this matter and takes appropriate action against Chase Bank. I also request that the agency informs me of the findings of the investigation and any steps taken to rectify the situation. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. I trust that the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau will take the necessary actions to uphold consumer rights and protect against such privacy violations.

Issue: Other transaction problem

Subissue:

Consumer Complaint: The story is my boyfriend got a trouble and would like to borrow $ XXXX from me. I have enough money in my Chase Bank account and I can support him to get through this hard time. Because there is no Chase branch around me, and I am afraid of emailing a signed check to him would not be safe, finally I decided to use wire transfer from my Chase account to his Chase account, a domestic transfer. I checked the transfer info several times to make sure that everything is correct before I scheduled the first transfer on XX/XX/2024. Since it was Saturday, and I was told the transfer would start on XX/XX/2024. On XX/XX/2024, I received an email from Chase saying that the transfer was cancelled and my account was locked. I called Chase and they told me they need some info from me to verify this transfer. The verification was definitely successful and they told I can do another wire transfer in half of an hour to one hour later. Then I scheduled the second wire transfer after maybe 3 hours after the call, still on XX/XX/2024, again it was cancelled and my account was blocked. I called Chase, did the verification, and then scheduled the third wire transfer again, the same cancellation happened. The agent told me to do another transfer on XX/XX/2024. Then on XX/XX/2024, before I did the fourth wire transfer, I called Chase and to told them that I would like to do a $ XXXX wire transfer to my boyfriend to support his hard time, and they told me I was good to go. Cancellation and account lock happened again. Anyway, I tried five times to transfer the money and all were rejected, even though I told them this is not fraud, and I did need to transfer the money to my boyfriend. Finally I called Chase again and asked how can I do the wire transfer successfully, the last agent did another more accurate identification verification for me, and after this successful verification, he told me I should go to a branch. The issue is there is no branch within hundreds of miles around me. I have never done a wire transfer, including in and out, all my incomings are clear just from salaries and interest. I am not sure whether they will close my account later because of the five times rejection, but anyway, I spent two whole days just on calling Chase and trying to solve this issue but just got endless rejection and lock. I was really really really uncomfortable with this service.

Issue: Managing an account

Subissue: Cashing a check

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, I opened an account with Chase Bank online. The next day, I went into my local branch and deposited a {$69000.00} check expecting a 7-10 business day clearance period. However, due to the holidays, I returned on XX/XX/XXXX, only to receive a letter threatening account closure. Upon inquiry, I learned the check was placed on hold due to a third-party verification issue. The third party, an old friend with a changed number, readily cooperated with Chase 's verification attempt. Despite this, Chase refused to release my funds, citing the outdated phone number as their sole reason. Even after the third party visited the bank and personally verified their identity, the specialist callously dismissed him and hung up. Frustrated and emotionally distraught, I filed a formal complaint with the branch manager, XXXX XXXX. She attempted to resolve the issue by contacting customer service again, eventually reaching a more helpful specialist who verified the check with XXXX XXXX. However, a " hold harmless agreement '' and an additional 5-day wait were imposed. Adding to the confusion, I received another letter stating my account was denied due to a low credit score, despite it not being a concern during the initial opening. By XX/XX/XXXX, the account was closed. Thankfully, XXXX persisted and reached a Level III fraud specialist who reopened the account within a day. However, the promised 5-day release of the funds never materialized. Today, XX/XX/XXXX, the account remains closed, and Chase claims the check is " in the mail '' without providing any details or a delivery date. This entire ordeal has caused me immense emotional distress, financial hardship due to missed bills, and a deep sense of racial and age discrimination. I believe Chase deliberately took advantage of my situation and exploited my funds for their own gain.

Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement

Subissue: Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement

Consumer Complaint: All of my credit card balances are always paid in full, prior to the due date on my Chase Freedom card. The most recent statement period is from XX/XX/XXXX, XXXX XX/XX/XXXX. This period in question is then due XX/XX/XXXX. Please note I did pay the incorrect amount due already on XX/XX/XXXX to avoid fees. Chase is stating that my balance is XXXX However, I received a credit from Amazon for XXXX, which should have been deducted from this amount making the total due XXXX. The only purchases during this period were : XXXX, XXXX XXXX XXXX and the credit from Amazon for XXXX. It seems that given the balance they stated I owe of XXXX they did give me the credit of XXXX, but also included incorrectly added a second charge for XXXX which occurred on XXXX XXXX ( outside of the statement period ) in my balance. This second XXXX charge should be due on XX/XX/XXXX. When I messaged Chase several times on their secure messaging system, they responded with two explanations both of which did not address my concerns or how to escalate the issue.

Issue: Getting a credit card

Subissue: Application denied

Consumer Complaint: I had a Chase Southwest branded credit card. Throughout XXXX and XXXX, I reported several overseas fraudulent charges were made on the card. I reported these to Chase, but they never took action to close the card to prevent additional fraudulent charges, hence breaking their own terms and conditions to protect their clients. They then closed this card, and all other personal and business cards I had with the company and refuse to open new cards with no explanation of why they are harassing me with this.
