Issue: Trouble using your card
Subissue: Can't use card to make purchases
Consumer Complaint: I applied for Discover It Student Credit Card online on XX/XX/XXXX, uploaded and signed the documents they asked for, got the physical card on XX/XX/XXXX, and get activated that day. But on XX/XX/XXXX, when I tried to use my card to purchase a dinner, it did not work. I called Discover, and they blame me for signing a document, 4506-C, that they asked for in the email. They claimed that I should have called them because that's what they said in the email, which was not true. Here is the email. " " " " " Discover Financial Services requires your consent to receive income information from the Internal Revenue Service ( IRS ) to verify information on your account. You can expect a separate email from " Verification Services '' ( sent via XXXX ) with the subject line : " XXXX XXXX '' Has Sent You IRS Consent Form 4506-C to Sign. Please follow the step-by-step instructions in the email within five days. Note : If the email is not in your inbox, please check your junk mail or spam folders. Prompt action must be taken in order to validate your account information for continued use. Until this verification is complete, a temporary hold has been placed on your account. If for any reason you are unable to complete the consent form, please contact us directly at XXXX, or call the phone number on the back of your card. Once Discover has received and processed the IRS information, you will be contacted in writing to advise that the review of your account is completed. We appreciate your prompt attention and cooperation. Thank you, Discover Financial Services " " " " " They certainly ordered me to sign the document directly in the email. But the operator of Discover on XX/XX/XXXX claimed that I should have called them, so I don't need to sign the document, but they would have requested me to upload my bank statement, which I've already done during the application. So basically, she blamed me that it was my fault to sign the form, and that's completely false. But I certainly believe I was not wrong, which is the reason I'm filing a claim. So be careful when dealing with Discover, so unprofessional.

Consumer Complaint: Opened a savings account with Discover Online Banking using a promo code that promised {$150.00} bonus if account opened with minimum deposit of {$15000.00}. I did deposit the {$15000.00} and received and email on XX/XX/2022 stating the promo amount would be deposited to the account in approx XXXX business days. As of this date and time the bonus amount has not been deposited after several conversations with supervisors at Discover. I then found out that Discover can sell and trade my personal information as they see fit. As a senior citizen, I believe I was scammed into giving my SSN and other info for the benefit of Discover selling and trading my personal information and never did receive the {$150.00} promo bonus. I believe they are taking advantage of hundreds of thousands if not more seniors and non senior citizens personal information using this method. I have several instances of documentation where I was given incorrect and false information by Discover supervisors. Names and dates of the conversations with these supervisors can be provided.

Consumer Complaint: I made a {$1000.00} payment to our discover account credit card over a week ago. Today, the account still doesn't have the proper balance updated along with the proper credit being updated. We have called the Discover Bank about 10 times in one day. Every time resulted in us getting hung up on mid way through the call. The representatives are very unprofessional. They are saying I won't be able to access the credit for the payment until another 8 days. This is ridiculous and doesn't make sense. They have already takened the money out of my account but won't confirm with the bank that my payment has already cleared so they can un-lift the available credit. Quite honestly Discover has taken my money and isn't acknowledging my credit for it. We are being dicked on side ways by this company and feels like we have no help. It appears I we will need to elevate the our concerns any way we need to get this issue resolved ASAP. We are also closing our account with discover afterwards and I am also looking into law suit possibilities. I want someone help accountable for this unprofessional act. I am not done with them yet.

Consumer Complaint: The Credit Card ( DISCOVER ) is attempting to charge me for a transaction that was applied to a deactivated card account. In XXXX of XXXX, I paid off the credit card in full. This transaction is dated XXXX for the amount of {$10000.00} ( I have the invoice ). At this time, I ordered the card to be deactivated but, did no close the account. On XXXX, Discover approved payment for an automated annual fee to XXXX ( A social media company ) for {$300.00} to the deactivated card without notifying me prior to processing the payment. I DID NOT REQUEST CREDIT FOR THIS TRANSACTION. On XXXX, XXXX contacted Discover to dispute the charge and was told that the transaction was treated as if it were for an Emergency Utility Payment. Discover then suggested that I reach out to XXXX for reversal. I then permanently closed my Discover Credit Account. I visited XXXX and reviewed my auto-renewal and found that XXXX identified clearly that my Discover Card of record had expired in XXXX ( I have a screenshot ). I closed the account. On XXXX I again contacted Discover and challenged the charge. Discover then instructed me that they would contact XXXX and request reversal ( I did not solicite them to do this ). I have since received notification of legal actions against me. I then formally filed the attached document with them. They've rejected my request. For reference the card number ( account now closed ) ended in XXXX. Discover has submitted a case number which is XXXX Discover has entered in this issue with the credit bureau and this has negatively impacted my credit score.

Consumer Complaint: I executed a balance transfer on my Discover card # XXXX on XX/XX/2022. In error, the balance payoff was issued twice leaving me with a credit balance in excess of {$3000.00}. I contacted them and asked that it be returned to the checking account at XXXX XXXX ending in XXXX for which they had all the necessary routing and account information. I was told that it would not be a problem. I have called and talked to 4 different agents that said it was in process. I talked to a supervisor that explained that the process wasn't properly completed by the agents and that was the reason for the delay and the money would be transferred back and I should see it today XX/XX/2022. That has not happened. A second supervisor told me today that there is some disconnect between the credit card department and the electronic transfer section of the company and I might see the money by XX/XX/2022. I had the same double entry happen to my XXXX XXXX card balance transfer and they returned the money to my checking account within 2 days. I don't feel this treatment of my finances is either prudent, proficient or proper fiduciarily.
