Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement
Subissue: Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement
Consumer Complaint: My name is XXXX XXXX, I've called Discover five times now with no headway made on my case at all. The first of these calls began a day or so after I noticed these fraudulent purchases, all the way back at the end of XX/XX/2023. Only one of the purchases that was made on my stolen card was refunded ( a stop at a gas station ) however they are refusing to refund the other ( more expensive ) purchases. I thought this was gon na be resolved the third time I called when a woman tried really hard to figure out why I didn't receive a refund already. Sadly, it still hasn't and after my last two calls they have continued to state that I'll have to pay for these charges or that it was already taken care of ; however, my credit card billing statement reflects otherwise. Each call I made they stated five times that I would receive a call back from a supervisor and I haven't received a single call back or email about my case.

Consumer Complaint: Upon reviewing my credit report, I was alarmed to discover that Discover has reported a charge-off status for an account that I have had with them. This unexpected charge-off has significantly impacted my credit score and overall creditworthiness. I believe this situation to be inaccurate and potentially damaging to my financial standing. In addition to the charge-off reporting, I have also been served with legal documents indicating that a civil case has been filed against me by Discover. The reporting started on XX/XX/XXXX. The last reporting was XX/XX/XXXX. The amount is XXXX dollars. The civil case was filed on XX/XX/XXXX.

Issue: Getting a credit card
Subissue: Delay in processing application
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, I applied for a Discover credit card. I received the card on XX/XX/XXXX and activated it the same day. The timeline for this account is that it is 8 days old. For some reason Discover sent me a bill due date and stating that my billing cycle ended on the XXXX of XX/XX/XXXX. I have talked to numerous employees and none of them could help me. I simply asked for an account less than 30 days ( 13 days active at the time of this message ) why do I already have a billing statement due? Please see attached, the most odd thing about the conversation is that they state that the 'system automatically generates a due date ' which makes no sense for an account this new. To be clear, I am not disputing the transaction on the account, I am fine with paying it, the billing statement is what I have issues with. If my account was opened on XX/XX/XXXX or the activation of my card was on XXXX as the start of the billing cycle and ends 30+ days later then I would be fine, because I would expect a bill due date to be either late XXXX or early XXXX. They also claimed that my billing cycle was stated on a welcome kit letter, which there is none ( please see attached ). All I was asking for is let my account actually be active for 30 days and send me a correct billing statement and they could not be bothered to do that. Their practice is predatory and not clear in what the sell.

Consumer Complaint: The existence of a derogatory rating on my account is causing me significant concern. I am deeply worried about its potential impact on my credit. It has already resulted in the denial of a recent loan application and an increase in the interest rates on my existing credit accounts. I want to emphasize the severe financial and emotional distress that this negative rating has caused me and will continue to cause until it is resolved.

Subissue: Card opened as result of identity theft or fraud
Consumer Complaint: My mom, opened a credit card with discover and maxed the card usage. She also authorized a credit increase by using my cell phone. My mom was able to open the account because we lived together and she knew all of my personal information. The account was opened under her email so she had access to it, I never used the card nor had access to the account online. I was able to find out by checking my credit report. Not only did I never make a purchase, I never made a payment either. My mom made all payments from her bank account. Majority of transactions are taken in XXXX ca which is where she lived starting XX/XX/XXXX, and I lived in XXXX XXXX ca. We did live together before which is when she opened the account. On XX/XX/XXXX, discover called my mom and she admitted to committing credit card fraud and took full responsibility for the debt owed. However, my mother passed on XX/XX/XXXX and a payment plan was never created for my mom with discover. My mom made all transactions, authorized a credit limit increase, made all purchases in a city I did not live at, had access from her own email not mine, made all payments from her bank account, and even admitted and stated she would take full responsibility with discover. However discover is still giving me a hard time on approving this credit forgiveness.

Subissue: Account status incorrect
Consumer Complaint: In reference to Discover Bank Account # XXXX On XX/XX/, I wrote Discover Bank a letter informing them of their inaccurate reporting of an account on my consumer reports. Discover Bank is in violation of multiple laws set forth by Congress. 15 U.S. Code 1681a ( 2 ) ( a ) ( i ) states that the consumer report does not include information solely as to transactions or experiences ( payment history, charge off status ), between the consumer ( myself ) and the person ( Discover Bank ) making the report. Additionally, 15 U.S. Code 1681 s-2 ( a ) ( 1 ) ( A ) states that A person ( Discover Bank ) shall not furnish any information relating to a consumer ( ME ) to any consumer reporting agency ( XXXX, XXXX, XXXX ) if the person knows or has reasonable cause to believe that the information is inaccurate. The IRS Clearly defines a charge off as Gross or Ordinary income, INCOME DOES NOT GET REPORTED ON THE CONSUMER REPORT which in fact makes reporting of this account inaccurate! By Definition, the IRS Clearly says a Cancelled debt or Charge off is Income. The reporting of this account as a debt is inaccurate. I never received a 1099-C from Discover Bank for the cancelled debt of {$6000.00} in order to file as ordinary income. Where is my 1099-C Discover Bank is clearly writing off debt with the IRS without sending out 1099-C as required by the IRS for debts greater than {$600.00}. This is unsatisfactory! Discover Bank has been HEREBY PUT ON NOTICE that they are furnishing incorrect inaccurate information, and as such I shall also point out their responsibility pursuant 15 U.S. Code section 1681s-2 ( a ) ( 1 ) ( B ) ( ii ) : ( a ) DUTY OF FURNISHERS OF INFORMATION TO PROVIDE ACCURATE INFORMATION 1 ) PROHIBITION ( B ) Reporting information after notice and confirmation of errors A person shall not furnish information relating to a consumer to any consumer reporting agency if ( i ) the person has been notified by the consumer, at the address specified by the person for such notices, that specific information is inaccurate ; and ( ii ) the information is, in fact, inaccurate.

Consumer Complaint: Case XXXX Merchant Name : XXXX XXXX ( E-COMMERCE ) Dispute Amount : {$210.00} I have been disputing an ongoing case from XXXX. As the merchant indicated in their response to Discover, I had preorder a vehicle. They claimed I did not show up to pickup the vehicle. So I reopened the case and provided Discover with XXXX map geolocation screen-prints ( with timestamps ) to prove I was at the location. In addition, the merchant physically scanned my Discover credit card at a physical terminal. I provided evidence that I possessed insurance prior to arriving. My reason for leaving without the rental vehicle is because I ordered XXXX vehicle insurance and the company attempted to charge me extra for their " premium required insurance '' without permission. Luckily, the unauthorized XXXX fell off ( from the physical card swipe ). I was disputing the remaining preorder. I fully understand it was " non-refundable '' ; however, the merchant breached the contract when they increased the costs considerably at pickup. I provided Discover with merchant reviews to establish that they have a long history of scamming individual 's in this manner. I even provided XXXX with a receipt from that day, including map legend from the rental vehicle location to my dentist appointment. Discover ultimately doesn't care, doesn't provide fraud protection, and refuses to glance at their own records to confirm I was present at the rental vehicle location ( where the Discover card was swiped at a physical terminal ).
