Issue: Incorrect information on your report

Subissue: Account information incorrect

Consumer Complaint: After submitting multiple disputes with the XXXX major credit bureaus and reviewing the results of the investigations, Discover continues to fail to remove this inaccurate and incomplete Discover account from my consumer report. Discover has been in direct violation of the following including but not limited to : - 15 U.S. Code 1681e ( b ) - FCRA Section 807-8 - FCRA 623-B - Defamation of character I've made multiple efforts to resolve this matter by sending formal letters with documentation highlighting the discrepancies between the consumer reports of the 3 major credit bureaus to submit to Discover for investigation. However, Discover did not complete a thorough investigation and proceeds to openly violate federal statutes and my personal rights casting an unwarranted shadow on my character, creditworthiness, and overall financial standing furnishing this inaccurate account. I ask that the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau step in to bring attention to this pressing matter and demand a DELETION of this inaccurate and incomplete account from my consumer report of XXXX, XXXX, and XXXX.

Issue: Problem when making payments

Subissue: You never received your bill or did not know a payment was due

Consumer Complaint: Hello, I was a customer with discover financial services. I believed my bill to be paid in full. Unbeknownst to me, there was a recurring charge that hit the credit card and went unpaid for 2 months. Discover Financial was sending electronic statements to my email which is inundated with junk mail but did not attempt to contact me otherwise. After the second missed payment, the company reported a negative report to the credit bureaus. I attempted to discuss with management in customers service that this was an oversight and requested a good will adjustment for first offense and the company refused. I believe this is punitive to consumers. This in no way is a reflection of my payment ability or my credit worthiness. I believe there should be some investigation into the practices around paperless billing especially given that consumers are becoming more and more overwhelmed with email campaigns.

Issue: Closing your account

Subissue: Can't close your account

Consumer Complaint: discover card company will not allow me to close my account. According to them, there is no way to verify me until 60 days has passed and I can not close the account until then. There is apparently some issue with verifying me by my phone information, and this is causing the credit account to stay open, which is affecting my credit score. I have tried to remedy the situation with Discover card, and they had no solutions to help me close my account in a timely manner, and in a way that would not lied to my credit score being affected. I also can not login to my account because of the issues that discover has verifying me, even though they have numerous ways of verification such as by my address or SSN, and I mentioned that I would be happy to provide any necessary documents such as birth certificate or Social Security card. They refused to verify me by any other means than by phone which by their own admission takes 60 days to be put into their system, and the result is that my credit score will be negatively affected because of the issues with their own system and having only one single way to verify people that sometimes has issues unrelated to the customer. The conversation took place over the phone at approximately XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX and I have records of the call.

Subissue: Other problem

Consumer Complaint: I was an account holder of Discover Bank and my account was closed in XX/XX/XXXX and charged off according to my XXXX credit reported dated XX/XX/XXXX, since I didn't know how to remit for my legal and equitable interest at that time. I requested from Discover multiple times a copy of my 1099C and full accounting according to GAAP using GAAS and I was ignored and denied and to date Discover has not provided me with a copy. I have evidence Discover sold the account to XXXX XXXX XXXX and received a letter they were trying to collect a debt for Discover Bank on the account on XX/XX/XXXX. I vaguely remember this was not the first time a collection agency attempted to collect debt. Discover then assigned the account to XXXX XXXX XXXX, a debt collector and I received a notice from them in XX/XX/XXXX. Discover is now pursuing me with a lawsuit in XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX to collect {$7000.00}, plus 5 % interest, penalties, fees and attorney fees.

Issue: Opening an account

Subissue: Unable to open an account

Consumer Complaint: XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX Of XXXX : XXXX I'm not appreciative that because of a simple mistake, all of my accounts were closed. i deposited a check into my savings account and did not realize the banking institution had closed my account, so the check bounced. Instead of discover reaching out to me, they decided to not only close my savings account, but my cashback debit, money market and other savings account, which should have not been affected. I called and they told me to reapply for more accounts and those would remain open, they did not. They closed those as well. Discover was my primary bank and I want to keep banking with them, but this is ridiculous. I am filing a case with XXXX, XXXX & cfpb for repercussions.

Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement

Subissue: Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement

Consumer Complaint: I purchased some trading cards from XXXX XXXX XXXX last month. In the month of XXXX. I received the cards and they were all factory damaged like cards that were suppose to be disposed of. They sold them to me and I called XXXX XXXX XXXX to get a refund or replacement. They said no that I would have to call panini, the manufacturers of the cards. So I did and was told to send them I did and they sent them back and they refused to replace the cards and was told to call XXXX XXXX XXXX. They told me they weren't going to refund me and called XXXX yet again. They told me to call my credit card company. So I did. Discover was the credit company. I opened disputes and they said that transactions are valid. I explained why I should get a refund but they didn't care do to the no refund policy. But that shouldn't apply if I get a bunch of cards that have so much damage to them all they are good for is firewood. 90 % of the cards are damaged. Like I stated earlier, they package they rejected cards off the line and i received them. The seller nor the manufacturer would help me. Kinda telling me " we ripped you off and what '' please assist with this. I'm out over $ XXXX. Discover credit card {$930.00} XX/XX/2023 {$820.00} XX/XX/2023 {$310.00} XX/XX/2023 XXXX

Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed

Subissue: Debt was result of identity theft

Consumer Complaint: Please see the dates in the attachments where I have been trying to work with this creditor and explain to them that I am a victim of identity theft and have been working diligently the past year to clean up the mess that is my credit. They have been unresponsive and continue to just send credit statement after credit statement as some kind of proof the account was active, however, those purchases were never done by myself. Discover Credit Card Services keep denying my claim even though I have sent in proof of where I was living at the time of this card being opened without my permission, as well as my FTC report, police report, and my own written statement of the crime committed against me.

Issue: Other features, terms, or problems

Subissue: Problem with balance transfer

Consumer Complaint: I would like to file a formal complaint against Discover Card with yet another example of their fraudulent customer practices. When I applied for a Discover Card in XXXX from the application Discover Card sent me, I asked for a balance transfer of {$23000.00} from a credit line since Discover was advertising a lower introductory interest rate on balance transfers. Instead of granting the amount requested, Discover issued a card with a credit limit of {$5000.00}. In todays mail, I received a Discover Card bill showing Discover subsequently transferred a balance of {$4700.00} from the credit balance of {$23000.00} without my authorization or intent. Additionally, Discover billed {$140.00} for this transfer that I did not request nor authorized. Discover has subsequently promised to close the credit card because I refuse to comply with Discovers subsequent fraudulent and illegal requests for a certified copy of my drivers license. Please require Discover to under to balance transfer of {$4700.00} Discover fraudulently completed without my authorization and remove the {$140.00} fee Discover is charging for the fraudulent transfer. I have never previously dealt with a company with such poor customer service and fraudulent, unauthorized activity in all my 71 years. Discovers Executive Office is continually unavailable and does not listen to customers. I found a website with multiple complaints about Discover and added my initial complaint. I will be demonstrating this additional fraudulent activity on as many websites as possible to help make others aware of Discovers ongoing deceitful activities.
