Issue: Struggling to pay your loan
Subissue: Lender trying to repossess or disable the vehicle
Consumer Complaint: I tried to work out a payment plan with Credit Acceptance but they wouldn't help me and they repossed my vehicle. Now I have a higher balance to pay if I want my vehicle back and I have to drive over 3 hours one way just to get it. I tried to work something out with them before it was repossed but they wouldn't help me and they came to my house and took my vehicle without me knowing it. I don't know if they wrecked my vehicle when it was loaded or not. But they wouldn't help me so I could keep my vehicle and get back on track with payments. They are sometimes rude on the phone when talking to them. I wanted to keep my vehicle but Credit Acceptance wouldn't work with me.

Issue: Struggling to pay your loan
Subissue: Problem after you declared or threatened to declare bankruptcy
Consumer Complaint: Credit acceptance used predatory loan practices and I believe it was due to my race, inexperience, and age at the time of purchase. To start the the loan interest on the contract was not what I told it would be at the time of purchase, I was told that I would have a 13 % interest based on my credit at the time. Once I got the contract the interest rate was much higher at 22.99 %, I couldnt believe what I was seeing. After a week in the vehicle, I tried to return the car to the dealership and was told I couldnt return the car because they couldnt verify my mothers address. She had purchased her vehicle from them as well, they lied. After trying to do voluntary repossession, I learned that I had 60 days to return to return the vehicle but that option was taken from me by the dealership XXXX XXXX XXXX. I have been trying to get the company Credit Acceptance to get the car but they have said multiple reasons why they can not, we dont have the phone number of the company, I provided the phone number ; we need the address, I provided the address ; we might consider getting the vehicle if the company calls us, I asked the tow truck company owner to call them, he did. After jumping through their hoops, I was emailed a payoff request for {$22000.00} on XX/XX/XXXX. The vehicle was repossessed in XXXX of XXXX, I borrowed from my grandmother to get it and the paper on the car said inoperable. Why would you ask for {$22000.00} for a car that you said has no value? I have not received notice of lower payment options or any information about the voluntary repossession. This process has been stressful and horrible since I started it on XX/XX/XXXX. During the COVID 19 pandemic, I was unemployed and told them I could not afford the payments and would have to return the car, they said not to worry they were offering lower payment arrangements and no late fees, this was also a lie. I just want this five year battle to end but they have been sending me in circles for years and it is affecting my life, renting places to live has been made difficult by their credit reporting and the option to try to rebuild and move forward seems like a pipe dream. If this helps one person avoid falling into their traps, I would be grateful. I was XXXX years old at the time and I am XXXX years old now and I wouldnt want anyone to have to deal with this for years to come like me. Be cautious and avoid them at all costs.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I bought an used vehicle and the car dealer got me financed with Credit Acceptance Later when I checked on an auto loan calculator, I realized that I was being billed much more than the actual loan payments and the loan company wouldnt explain or show me why there was a large difference of money between the actual loan payment and my monthly payments. I struggled with them to straighten that out and I ended up surrendering the vehicle to them and let them take it back on XX/XX/XXXX. I read that there was a lawsuit against that loan company for overcharging customers and I was one of them.

Consumer Complaint: Received auto loan through Credit acceptance. Made several payments to which no payments were ever reported. Original loan amount raised years later from approximately {$5500.00} up to {$8500.00}. Car was full of issues, and dealership refused to fix. Became unable to drive. Car was totaled out, I turned it in, it was sold and no proceeds were ever put towards the original amount owed, instead they added on {$3000.00} and my credit report states I never made one payment. Yet I paid on the car for almost at minimum a full year.
