Consumer Complaint: XXXX XXXX sold my settled debt to a debt collection company after I had already settled and paid for my debt. The settlement and payment was for the amount of {$5800.00}, and the terms were agreed to on XX/XX/2020. I have contacted XXXX XXXX multiple times for them to resolve this error. XXXX XXXX insists that they were allowed to sell my debt even though I had already settled and paid. When I contacted the debt collections company, Jefferson Capital Systems, I am told I must have XXXX XXXX resolve this error. XXXX XXXX is refusing to resolve this error is selling my settled and paid debt to Jefferson Capital Systems. XXXX XXXX is refusing to refund me for the debt settlement payment that I have already made.

Two accounts are in collection but its two of the exact same accounts opened on the same day. There is an error on their part. Consumer Complaint: This morning on XX/XX/2020 I received an update on my credit report of a new derogatory remark from a company Jefferson Capital Systems LLC whom I have never heard of. They had opened an account on XX/XX/XXXX without my knowledge stating they had bought debt from XXXX XXXX in my name to the tune of {$100.00}. I have never been contacted via mail, phone, or email by Jefferson Capital Systems LLC to make me aware that I in fact owed them any amount of money. Instead they put my account in to collections putting a negative remark on my credit report, and driving down my credit score. If I am correct, this goes against the Fair Debt Collection practices act subsection 808, as well as subsection 809 showing that they have to make contact with me about debt owed to them. I have contacted Jefferson Capital Systems LLC today XX/XX/2020 to speak to them about why my account with them is in collections on my credit report. They repeatedly said that what they did is within their company guidelines, and completely ignored what I had to say when I brought up the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. I don't see any way that shows what they did as being legal, how was I supposed to know I owed Jefferson Capital Systems LLC money if they never contacted me saying so? What they said is that if I pay the debt, the remark will be removed, however I truly believe what they did is technically against the law.

Upon further research, this account was transferred /sold and I am no longer responsible for it. Debtors creditors did not verify this collection. Also there was no written form of communication, contract or signature for this account debt at all.A bill without signature does not validate the debt and anybody can send a bill and say it is mine.
