Issue: Trouble using your card

Subissue: Can't use card to make purchases

Consumer Complaint: I had this credit card for a while and of course during XXXX did not use my cards often and wasnt traveling. I had accumulated close to XXXX travel rewards points on this card which I was told would never expire as long as the card was active. Due to XXXX and dealing with ongoing XXXX XXXXssue for my XXXX after severe XXXX and now the damages it caused, we had not really been traveling or using a lot of our cards. Previously, I had several issues when trying to use the card where the card didnt work or took several times to work and finally in XXXX I asked for a new card. According to the customer service rep the new card was mailed out and 3 days after that they closed my account. I was never told I was at risk for that or that there were any issues. Id never missed a payment and my credit score is in the mid XXXX 's. Closing a credit account can cause a drop in your credit score as well. Again I was never told the account was in danger of being closed and I had talked with them several times right before it was done. We asked the card to be mailed where we were staying, but did not receive it before we left. When I called back to change addresses I was told a new card was being sent also never received. We finally decided to deal with it later. That was XXXX. We knew were were planning a trip in XXXX and figured we would sort it out then. This is when we found out the account was closed. We did not get notice of this. More importantly the almost XXXX rewards points were worth close to XXXX in cash value and they simply closed the account making it not an active account this taking those. One agent said the account was inactive for an extended period of time and so it was closed. Well had anyone said that was a problem and provided me with a card that worked I would have been using it. We have plenty of other credit cards and have even gotten notices after XXXX from a couple stating that due to non use the accounts could be closed by a certain date if there was not use on the account. For a couple we opted to close them. For others we made sure we began using them. The point is we were notified. With the XXXX card we were not. Moreover, my XXXX and I both have other Capitol one cards that do not have rewards tied to them and that havent been used in ages but those arent cancelled. When I asked about that I was told they dont generally cancel cards unless there is a problem or a history of non payment or abuse etc.. There was no such history. I think they saw a way to not have to pay out those rewards and the account being idle and cancelled it. Meanwhile Money that I earned on that account by using it and fulfilling my obligations was taken from me without my notice or consent. Even worse was that we were considering transferring a sum of money over into a Capitol One high yield interest account, but hadnt done it yet because we were nervous about doing this with basically a credit card company over our traditional bank. Well things like this certainly dont inspire or build trust.

Issue: Incorrect information on your report

Subissue: Information that should be on the report is missing

Consumer Complaint: I owed a balance of XXXX to Capital One Bank. I paid the account off XX/XX/XXXX. Received a letter dated XX/XX/XXXX stating the account was closed. I called Capital One on XX/XX/XXXX to ensure they reported this updated information to XXXX XXXX XXXX, the customer service rep with capital one stated they did, but I could reach out to XXXX XXXX XXXX to ensure it was done. Well, it hasn't been reported correctly at all. Companies stated still shows that I owe XXXX, but the account was closed. I filed a dispute with the XXXX regarding this matter. In my letter from Capital One they didn't state I paid the account off, only that the account was closed. Which I thought was odd.

Consumer Complaint: I have paid off my capital one charge off balance it is currently {$0.00}. I have not received a 1099-C form showing that the balance is now {$0.00}. This account is reporting inaccurately as a charge off with a balance and it is completely paid off. Ive tried to had this account removed with letting capital one know about the identity theft and ive attached my police report as well. Im trying to fix my credit report after being a victim of identity theft. May this information please stop being reported to the credit bureaus.

Issue: Fees or interest

Subissue: Problem with fees

Consumer Complaint: XXXX ( Capital One phone number used in threatening text XX/XX/XXXX ) XX/XX/XXXX Even my ability to text capital one has been blocked due to the wrongful and retaliatory restrictions placed on my account on XX/XX/XXXX. I am instructed to first contact the number listed above after which I am immediately transferred to XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX Department and the process begins all over again ( SEE EVIDENCE BELOW ). XX/XX/XXXX Text Message @ XXXX PST Looks like theres an issue. One of your accounts may be restricted. Before we can chat, youll need to call customer service at XXXX. Called again regarding these very damaging restrictions on my account preventing me from making payments, using rewards for payment ( s ) on account balance, disputing fraudulent and duplicate charges on account, etc., all leading to additional damages, i.e. Late Fee ( s ), XXXX XXXX XXXX, default high interest rate ( XXXX ), wrongful/false adverse credit reporting, etc. XX/XX/XXXX XXXX PST For the very first time in XXXX, someone from Capital One ( XXXX unknown number called from ) finally called me back regarding the wrongful restrictions placed on my account. I am now getting threatening texts regarding my missed XX/XX/XXXX payment of {$830.00} that would have been allowed to remain had Capital One not falsely alleged I committed fraud when I rescheduled this payment and made the payment early on XX/XX/XXXX, after which, Capital One, negligently restricted my account and I in return reversed my FULL STATEMENT BALANCE PAYMENT of {$830.00} on XX/XX/XXXX after failing in my GOOD FAITH efforts to get Capital One to immediately remove these wrongful, damaging, and retaliatory account restrictions from XXXX. Again, Capital One, on XX/XX/XXXX, severely restricted my account subsequently preventing me from making ANY ON-TIME payments that have now directly resulted in additional Late Fee ( s ) ( {$25.00} ) and Interest Rate Charges/Fees ( {$54.00} ) being applied to my account and causing a much higher default interest rate and additional interest charged to my account. My account is now being negatively reported to the credit bureaus causing damage to my Credit Score and my ability to get additional credit and good terms for that credit. Capital One also prevented me from using my EARNED CASH BACK Rewards ( {$39.00} ) and applying my {$39.00} in REWARDS to my account statement balance and minimum payment ( {$25.00} ) due to avoid a {$25.00} per occurrence Late Fee ( Minimum Required Payment of {$25.00} due XX/XX/XXXX would have been FULLY paid using my {$39.00} in REWARDS had my account NOT BEEN WRONGFULLY RESTRICTED ). Capital One continues to prevent me from disputing the FULL account balance including specific and recent fraudulent and duplicate charges on my account. I DO NOT TRUST CAPITAL ONE with ANY of my financial data/information! I was told that the multiple separate XXXX XXXX XXXX formal/legal dispute documents I electronically provided Capital One, in my multiple & separate Formal Complaints regarding my wrongful account restrictions, ( XX/XX/XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX, and XX/XX/XXXX ) regarding my XXXX XXXX XXXX personal checking account reversal/recall of my BofA # XXXX XX/XX/XXXX FULL Statement Balance payment of {$830.00} to Capital One # XXXX were not sufficient to prove that I am the legal owner of the XXXX XXXX XXXX checking account ending in XXXX XXXX because the documents do not list my FULL XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX checking account number XXXX There is a reason for this, and that reason is common sense account security which Capital One has poorly demonstrated/provided over the years. Just how many XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX checking accounts ending in # XXXX, and initially set-up and used in the past as my own personal payment source account when this Capital One # XXXX credit card was activated and the online account set up, had their XX/XX/XXXX FULL Statement Balance payment of {$830.00} to Capital One # XXXX cancelled, rescheduled and immediately paid online XX/XX/XXXX, and then reversed/recalled/returned XX/XX/XXXX? I strongly contend Capital One is willfully and wrongfully retaliating against me by requiring me to provide additional information Capital One already has in its possession since a listed credit card payment source account, such as my XXXX XXXX XXXX checking account ending in # XXXX, required I provide not only my FULL Checking Account Number but also the required routing number before said account could be used as a payment source account for my XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX account ending in # XXXX. Capital One is punishing me for filing complaints regarding their wrongful and illegal behavior regarding this matter! I am now being told by Capital One that I must provide hard copy personal XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX checking account statements that fully show my complete XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX checking account number ending in # XXXX and that clearly demonstrate that I am, as Ive stated to Capital One multiple times before from XXXX ( SEE Evidence Below ), the rightful and legal owner of this XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX account ending in # XXXX before Capital One will even consider removing any of the wrongful restrictions negligently placed on my account. No guarantees Capital One will even remove these wrongful restrictions after I provide my personal checking account statements. I offered to verify the XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX checking account information ( full account number and routing number ) but Capital One refused and stated that only copies of my personal checking account statements would suffice. When I asked Capital One to provide me with the disclosure information that requires the owner of a Capital One XXXX account to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that they are the legal owners of the accounts added/listed as Capital One bill payment sources, Capital One refused or otherwise could not provide this information. I was told Capital One could restrict my account for ANY reason and there was nothing I could do about it until I fully complied with their unlawful and wrongful additional requirements, i.e. Call XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX ( 1-2 hours on hold ) and now provide my personal checking account statements. My personal checking statements, and the personal information contained therein, are none of Capital Ones XXXX business, and I am sure a court of law will most definitely agree.
