Issue: Problem with a lender or other company charging your account
Subissue: Can't stop withdrawals from your account
Consumer Complaint: Hi Im reaching regarding to my saving XXXX account at the moment that was a saving account. I was being charged for overlimit fee {$60.00} a month for 3 months in XXXX XXXX XXXX and XXXX. I had asked you before about the reimbursement but got denied by customer service every time. The reason I had to do transactions on saving instead of another checking account which lead to this overlimit fee are 1 ) my XXXX checking account was negative due to excessive overdraft and nsf fees that Bank of America charged me on the same transactions while the balance was already negative. 2 ) I needed to pay interest of Bank of America credit card to avoid the late fee and interest that could be combined and included in the original amount I owed. At the moment, my checking account was negative if I deposited to that account, I would not be able to pay the minimum payment of credit cards. Therefore, my only option was to deposit to saving instead of checking to avoid the late fee and also in order to transfer a part of it to my landlord for my monthly rent. 3 ) I understood that I should not do services with the bank tellers. But since you limited hours during the COVID, and customers did not want to be in closed space so majority of the customers used the atm outside. The line was long since the atm was not sufficient to all customers. Especially in XXXX XXXX, the branch was closed very often and only 2 atm outside and 2 in drive thru. Outside atm machines were 1 working but out of money and 1 not functioning. On the drive thru, they are working but out of money. Therefore before bank even open, it was common to see customers waiting in line outside to see bank tellers because of atm machines were not operating. I dont think charging me {$60.00} a month for overlimit fees was fair since bank inappropriately added nsf fees or overdraft fees to my account in XXXX that around {$1000.00} was charged on XXXX for nsf fees. Therefore, I left no choice to use my saving Account to pay bills which eventually caused me {$60.00} overlimit fee for 3 months. Also, atm outside were never property maintained and left customers to see tellers inside the bank only. Also I am not sure what is the different between nsf fee and overdraft fee. Since Bank of America uses them interchangeably. For the same merchant that charged on my account while it was already negative. they appeared as overdraft or nsf fees interchangeably attached pictures.

Consumer Complaint: I received 3 checks from the United States Treasury for the XXXX XXXX XXXX that the IRS approved on XXXX XXXX XXXX I deposited once check in the amount of {$52000.00} on Sunday XX/XX/XXXX via mobile banking. I deposited the other two checks in the amount of {$41000.00} and {$51000.00} on Monday morning XXXX XXXX XXXX in the branch providing my id and deposit slip from my account. At no time did the teller say there would be a hold placed on the checks. I'm attaching the check I deposited on the mobile app to show these checks are from the United States treasury. The other two checks were deposited in the branch and Bank of America refuse to give me a copy of the checks. Later Monday XXXX XXXX XXXX I received an email from Bank of America stating my accounts were under investigation for fraud and criminal activity and all of my business acounts are being froze and I will not have access to any money. I called the bank and they said the checks appeared to be fake. I have spent over 12 hours XX/XX/XXXX through XX/XX/XXXX on the phone and they admit the the clears cleared with the United States Treasury, but they say i'm still under investigation and they will not release my money and I XXXX never get it back. In the mean time they keep return checks and ach 's on my account putting me in danager of losing my business. My rent check was returned and my landlord is threatening to evict me from my business location. I have no funds available to pay my 21 employees. Bank of America is trying to keep the {$140000.00} I received from the XXXX XXXX XXXX. So, I was able to survive the pandemic without losing my business, but now that I have received the XXXX XXXX XXXX I'm going to lose my business because Bank of America is trying to steal my money. They will not give me a date when and if I will get my money back or when the investigation is over. They will not tell me why they think I committed fraud or why the checks are fraud even though the United States Treasury cleared the checks and paid the Bank of America. The fraud being committed is by Bank of America and not me.

Issue: Problem caused by your funds being low
Subissue: Late or other fees
Consumer Complaint: Dear [ BOA representative ], I hope this message finds you well. I would like to address a matter of concern regarding the monthly fees I have been charged by BOA for several years now. As a valued customer who has been with your institution for over a decade, I feel it is important to bring this issue to your attention. In reviewing my account statements, I have noticed consistent monthly charges of {$12.00} listed as a " Maintenance fee. '' When inquiring about the purpose of this fee, I was informed that in order to avoid it, a minimum daily balance of {$1500.00} is required. While I understand the need for banks to manage their operations effectively, I find it unreasonable to be penalized for not keeping a certain amount in my account, especially considering I have never had a returned or bounced check. As a responsible customer, I believe it is my right to manage my finances as I see fit, without undue restrictions or fees imposed by the bank. I place great importance on my hard-earned money and find it unjust to have to pay fees to access more of it or to be dictated on how much money I should maintain in my own account. This level of control seems excessive and lacks the necessary transparency and oversight that customers like myself expect. In light of these concerns, I kindly request a thorough review of the fees I have been charged over the years. Furthermore, I request a refund of the accumulated fees, as I believe it is only fair to reimburse me for the funds that have been unnecessarily withdrawn from my account. I look forward to your prompt attention to this matter and appreciate your understanding of my perspective as a loyal customer. Should you require any additional information or documentation, please do not hesitate to contact me at your earliest convenience. Thank you for your time and consideration. Yours sincerely, THANK YOU

Consumer Complaint: We opened a non-profit savings and checking account with Bank of America at XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX Washington, DC XXXX XXXX XX/XX/XXXX. We deposited {$200.00} in each account. However, starting in XX/XX/XXXX, the bank charged a {$5.00} monthly service fee to each account, causing the checking account to be wiped out and the savings account to only have {$20.00} left. On XX/XX/XXXX, {$5.00} was deducted from the savings account. Despite being a non-profit, we were informed by account representatives that the service fees were mandatory. We are filing a complaint to have the fees restored and the checking account refunded. In light of recent lawsuits filed by the US Department of Justice and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, we feel our organization is being taken advantage of, similar to other Bank of America customers.
