Consumer Complaint: I have been trying to work with Amex on since XX/XX/XXXX. They cashed payoff funds in the amount of {$2300.00} on XX/XX/2019. They claimed they never received funds, even though I have given them copies of the bank statement several times, along with the routing numbers. I have received confirmation that they received the required documentation. There was a second payment made in the amount of {$2800.00}. They have acknowledged that they received that payment and they were suppose to be refunding that amount to me. Direct quote from Amex " The check is in the mail. '' Instead I received a letter that said no refund could be issued be there was no funds in the account. I have multiple disputes opened and closed and opened and closed. I have been transferred from the Closed Accounts, to Customer Service to Supervisors to the Escalation Department and now I am told that it is in the Billing Department and that a Supervisor will call me back. They have screwed up my address on the credit report which is now fixed. They have put multiple marks on my credit report. This is not right.

Consumer Complaint: I disputed a 30 day late reported to my credit report during the stay at home orders, my business was shut down a good portion of 2020. I have sent 2 letters explaining to Amex that per Public Law No : 116-136 ( XX/XX/2020 ) Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act or the CARESAct - SECTION 4021, my account was in good standing and still is, I called Amex in XX/XX/XXXX and also in XX/XX/XXXX to discuss my business shutdown from the pandemic and my payment would be a little over 30 days late and they explained they wouldn't report it late due to the pandemic shutdown. Ive sent two letters ( attached ) asking them to remove these late payments and they have yet to reply. Which they are clearly violating the Cares Act and lied to me when I called and arranged the payment.

Consumer Complaint: Ongoing with American Express Gold Card, for almost two years, I have had a problem getting them to stop charging for certain payments for ongoing services which I had cancelled with various companies ( Primarily XXXX, but also other accounts ) by contacting AmEx and asking to have these amounts not taken out from my card. At least two times I got rude responses in regard to my responsibility to make these payments and they couldn't stop them from being charged to my card. After three tries and repeated efforts they even gave me a {$200.00} credit ( which I never took since I might have to pay it back if I cancelled my card within the next year ) in order to try to appease me - this time assuring me the charges would not occur. This was sometime in late XXXX early XXXX. Finally, in frustration, after I was again charged by XXXX I cancelled the card which I had for around 15 years. My last bill I received from them in XX/XX/XXXX - I received a credit balance repayment ( which I later received by check ). Despite that a charge kept appearing on my account - note : my now closed account! So, despite asking that charges now be made against my account from certain creditors, and despite closing my account - American Express continued to accept charges and then to bill me! How can that even be legally possible for me to tell them not to allow a particular customer to charge my card that they still do? And, even after the account is closed they still charge - to a closed account - how? And how can I as a customer who gave them notice still be responsible for their error? Well, according to XXXX, who was very friendly/helpful - with the next credit reporting that goes to the Credit Bureaus, AmEx will fix my credit report! He couldn't give any kind of IDentifying info other than " XXXX ''! So now I wait until sometime around the XXXX to see if AmEx fixes this! In the meantime I think this is an important issue the CFPB and AmEx need to look at - I have never been so treated in any business dealing. It seems fundamentally in error! If someone could contact the Legal Department and discuss - surely this cant be correct!

Issue: Advertising and marketing, including promotional offers
Subissue: Confusing or misleading advertising about the credit card
Consumer Complaint: American express ( AMEX ) uses 'Amex Offer ' promotional feature to attract customers to use their cards in particular categories. However, AMEX misleadingly hide the time zone in the Amex offer which they uses to measure if the charge is qualified. I have a Amex Offer added to my card ending in XXXX which was called " XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX Spend {$300.00} or more, get {$60.00} back. Get a one-time {$60.00} statement credit by using your enrolled Card to spend a minimum of {$300.00} in one or more transactions, on room rate and room charges, when you pay for your stay at XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX from XX/XX/2021 to XX/XX/2021. '' The charge was made at XXXXXXXX XXXX PST ( pacific time ) on XX/XX/2021, which was supposed to be eligible for the offer. However, Amex refused to reimburse {$60.00} according to the offer because they said my charge was made at XXXX MST ( mountain time ) on XX/XX/2021. I have no problem if Amex had told the customers that they use MST ( mountain standard time ) in the details of the Amex Offers. However, since the Amex Offer does not mention which time zone it uses, it is natural to assume it was measured in the customers ' city 's time zone. In my case, this charge should still be eligible as it was done on XX/XX/2021.

Consumer Complaint: AMEX account XXXX. This account is closed and paid in full, remove any missed payments from credit report immediately, we paid you XXXX in less than 2 months. We are done with AMEX except a potential lawsuit. This company is the absolute worst. While AMEX can not be responsible for all the behaviour of vendors swiping its cards, it is fully aware of the circumstances surrounding 99 % of its charges. It is fully aware of the number of issues, for example, that it may have had with a certain merchant, or the number of disputes filed involving similar circumstances. In short, AMEX knows exactly what is going on here, or at least the basics of it. They know these places are crooked. But they have done a calculation and decided that the headache of having to deal with disputes is worth the profits these criminals generate for them, because 99 % of the time, the criminals win, and if the criminals win, AMEX wins. But I got XXXX and XXXX. That isn't a " cost of doing business. '' That is unacceptable. To listen to someone say that happened to them, and then to still go after that last XXXX just to make sure I understand that I alone am responsible for my own XXXX? XXXX XXXX See you in court eventually.
