Issue: Getting a credit card
Subissue: Application denied
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2021 I applied for an Hilton Honors American Express credit card ( reference number XXXX ). I completed the application in its entirety, and I honestly answered each question, including the income disclosure question. The income disclosure question states that if the applicant is over the age of 21, he should include all income accessible to him. To be certain I included the right number, I contacted American Express New Accounts and asked a representative what this means. I was told it is money that is typically deposited into a joint bank account or spousal income if it is used to pay expenses. As such, I stated my income to be {$120000.00} per year. A week after completing the application, I received a letter from American Express stating that in order to complete the processing of my application, my income needed to be verified. To this end, I was asked to sign and return the enclosed IRS Form 4506-C. A day after receiving this letter, I submitted the signed form. In addition, I submitted bank statements to confirm that my husbands income and mine combine to equal the amount I stated on the application. When I contacted American Express to inquire on the status of my application, I was told it was denied because the income I stated on the application was not consistent with what was revealed on my IRS transcript. I am perplexed as to why my application would be denied simply because I followed American Expresss own directions when disclosing my income.

Consumer Complaint: American Express has the most XXXX supervisors who seems.like just passed out from grade XXXX in school,, they can't follow up anything and blatantly lie on the phone. And their talented executive office just provides a one liner to the customer " we are sorry for what happened ''. On XXXX morning, I spoke with a supervisor named XXXX who couldn't follow up with my inquiry, he had no clue what to answer how to answer, and he is a supervisor. What is he exactly supervising? His own XXXX? I asked for his manager and he scheduled the call for the same day after XXXX LA time. I call again on XXXX and operator says the executive office will call me on XXXX during business hours. I am not going to cancel all my work just to speak to a manager from Amex. Amex can not keep up to their phone appointments with customers, that's quite obvious by now and top of that provide fake misleading phone appointments like XXXX. On XXXX I again spoke with a thick accented supervisor who could not follow the transcation list one by one when I was going with him all the transactions. I have more important things to do in life and can't spend hours and hours on the phone with XXXX XXXX supervisors from Amex. There is an issue with my recent transaction list and I can't seem to talk to anybody about it in Amex because your supervisors are all XXXX who can't follow up nothing. Your job does not finish by using the word sorry.
