Consumer Complaint: I initially noticed a new American Express credit card on my credit report which used a different address and birthday in XXXX of XXXX. I disputed it immediately with XXXX but was told to contact American Express. I initiated a fraud complaint in XXXX of XXXX and was informed by a letter from American Express that since the account was being paid then it was not fraudulent. I immediately contacted American Express again and disputed the decision. Again, I was notified by a letter that its not fraudulent since the card is being used. A second American Express card had just opened under my name which I did not apply for in XXXX XXXX. I plan on disbursing the new card as well. American Express somehow continued to refuse canceling the fraudulent account. The reasons they provided did not make any sense. They didnt ask for proof of identity during the dispute or fraud investigation.

Consumer Complaint: I had a prepaid American Express card that was issued by XXXX XXXX. In XXXX of 2018 my card was stolen by an individual I did not know. I filed a police report when I found out that they had used my card at several local places as well as online. I filed several disputes over the last three years with American Express, even sending copies of the police reports and online purchases that showed a different name than mine, and American Express continues to claim that the merchants showed these transactions were valid, even though they were not my purchases and that my card was in fact stolen. Camera footage also shows that the person using my card was not me. The person who stole my card was arrested and admitted to the crime ( all in the police reports submitted ) and American Express still claims that I am responsible for all these charges and will not return my money.

Issue: Improper use of your report

Subissue: Reporting company used your report improperly

Consumer Complaint: I received about XXXX marketing offers from American Express throughout 2021, explaining that I was pre-approved for an account with them. I applied for an American Express account on XX/XX/2021. I received notification that I was approved for an account, and that a new card was coming to me. I received a notification of account cancelation on XX/XX/2021. On XX/XX/2021, I received the card in the mail and attempted to activate the card. I was unable to activate the card, as I had expected due to the notification I received in my email on XX/XX/XXXX. I spoke to XXXX different representatives, who all told me that they would be unable to remove the credit inquiry from my report as I had requested. My issue is that I was misled by American Express into believing that I could open an account with them again, because they sent me many pre-approved marketing offers. If they had banned or blacklisted my account for a period of time, or permanently, then I should have received information explaining that if I apply for an account again, I will not be approved and my account will automatically be closed. I would like American Express to remove this credit inquiry from my report as they purposely misled me into applying for an account when they had no intention of honoring the offer.
