Consumer Complaint: I was issued an AMEX gift card from my employer for {$120.00} as a holiday gift. It declines everywhere. I tried with various items and merchants. I called AMEX to fix it. AMEX told me to ensure if it was an online merchant that they ask for the card number, expiration date and security code when entering the payment method. Every merchant I attempted to purchase from asked for all of those and it still declined everywhere. The gift card is basically useless.

Issue: Trouble using the card
Subissue: Trouble using the card to spend money in a store or online
Consumer Complaint: I received a {$200.00} pre-paid American Express giftcard from my office for the holiday season. Every staff member received these the week before XXXX 2023. But I'm finding it incredibly difficult to use this gift card. So far since I activated the card, I've been surprisingly denied small purchases at XXXX, XXXX, and other online retailers and haven't been able to find a retailer that will take this card. American Express 's website and consumer portal says it's " Widely Accepted - More places than ever welcome American Express Gift Cards '' but I'm not finding that's the case. I can't even exchange this general gift card on common online gift card exchanges sites like XXXX cause the pre-paid American Express giftcards are not accepted for security reasons. I called the American Express customer service number listed on their website and also on the back of the giftcard on XX/XX/XXXX and only received the same information as listed on their FAQ and website homepage- which recommended to find a merchant where the giftcard is accepted. There's no option to put in a claim or service request from American Express just a physical mailing address ( American Express Gift Card Customer Care XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, GA XXXX ) and their general customer service number ( XXXX ). I don't know how to access/use this money on the giftcard or contact a person at American Express to get answers that help me with usage. I've been finding many customer stories online that recently these cards stopped working at normal online merchants and will be declined basically everywhere.

Issue: Getting a credit card
Subissue: Application denied
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/23 I XXXX XXXX applied for an American Express platinum card using my social security number which is a trust account. Upon submitting my application I received a denial which I am disputing a trusting reconsideration in the following grounds. Per the indenture agreement, XXXX, and XXXX forms filed with the SEC the consumers application is a promissory note and used as security collateral and deposited for the issuance of new securities and funds. The application is a promissory note thus there is actual cash value exchanged for the services of a credit card via American Express. Regardless of the reason for the denial ( based on company policy and not Consumer Laws ) I have a right to credit. Withholding my access to my securities is securities fraud. You are violating the Equal Credit Opportunity Act as well as the Consumer Credit Protection Act. Since you are denying me access to my credit, please retract my application.
