Consumer Complaint: I am lodging a complaint against American Express for deceptive practices that triggered an additional {$250.00} interest charges that I would like them to rescind. I am planning to travel to Colorado in XXXX and noticed that I could get a {$200.00} statement credit if I used American Express travel services and prepaid for my hotel. In early XXXX, I charged a stay at XXXX XXXX XXXX, charging {$1100.00} to my AmEx card ( last fouXXXX XXXX ). I called as soon as I saw the next months statement. That {$1100.00} was considered immediately due and was part of my minimum payment of {$1200.00} minimum payment due no later than XX/XX/XXXX. This contrasts with the {$100.00} minimum payment that I made in XXXX. Equally concerning is the statement included a late payment warning that said if I did not make the minimum payment by XX/XX/XXXX, I would be charged a {$40.00} late fee and my XXXX XXXX XXXXe interest rate would be increased to 29.99 %. I called customer care ( XXXX ) and explained my dilemma. I did not know the {$1100.00} would be due immediately. I thought it would be rolled into my XXXX XXXX XXXXe balance and I would pay it over time, as the name implies. Since I still had {$1100.00} in my available XXXX XXXX XXXX limit, I was advised to select that XXXX XXXX XXXX transaction and designate it XXXX XXXX XXXX My XXXX payment of {$250.00} would first be applied to any remaining pay in full balance then would be applied to XXXX XXXX XXXX. The customer service rep asked for my email address, and after the call ended he emailed me XXXX XXXX XXXX FAQs. On XX/XX/XXXX, I logged into my account to make the payment that is due on XX/XX/XXXX. After some digging, I found the XXXX XXXX XXXX transaction. Unfortunately, it was marked ineligible for XXXX XXXX XXXX. I contacted customer service again, this time via chat. Heres that transcript. Today XXXX XXXX, please select one of these options, or in a few words tell me what you need help with. XXXX PM Good evening. I called when I received my last credit card statement. XXXX PM Here are some things I can help you with : XXXX PM I made a travel reservation through AmEx and paid for the room in advance on my card in order to get a {$200.00} statement credit. XXXX PM A Customer Care Professional will be with you in about two minutes. In the meantime, please provide any information that may help us assist you. XXXX PM I do not see that {$200.00} statement credit, and the {$1200.00} transaction is marked as my new minimum payment. XXXX PM The customer service rep I spoke with weeks ago said I could apply $ XXXX toward my pay over time balance. My {$250.00} payment would then be applied toward pay in full then pay over time. XXXX PM I logged in tonight to make that change, but the only option I am given is a payment plan, which tacks on a mandatory interest charge. This is bait and switch. XXXX PM Hello, XXXX. XXXX PM How do I apply $ XXXX toward my pay over time balance as I was told earlier? XXXX PM I read your chat reason and let me quickly review your account details. XXXX PM Could you confirm the charge amount you made for the hotel credit? By that time I will also check the detail on pay over time. XXXX PM XXXX XXXX PM The AmEx website wants to log me off for lack of activity XXXX PM Thank you for waiting patiently, I checked your account and firstly to address your pay over time query, The amount which you are XXXX is the pay in full section balance. This balance includes all the charges which is not pay over time which included the charges you have been revolving from previous statement. XXXX PM When you make the payment the payment is first adjusted with your pay in full balance and then with pay over time balance. XXXX PM The previous agent, who said he noted our conversation, apparently lied. XXXX PM May I ask if you were told via chat or phone? XXXX PM I will file a complaint with federal authorities. Good evening XXXX PM The only option open to me was Plan It. So, I marked it Plan It and made my {$250.00} payment, as expected. These names are euphemisms. Plan It actually means plan to pay mandatory fees. That transaction is now deemed payable over 24 months with a monthly payment amount that American Express sets with mandatory fees of {$270.00} baked in. The mandatory fee wipes out the value of the {$200.00} statement credit I was trying to get by booking through XXXX XXXXs XXXX XXXX.

Consumer Complaint: I am writing in regard to my Bluebird Account ( s ). I originally opened a card for my daughter who is in a program called New Directions for Young Adults in XXXX XXXX, Florida. The Bluebird card was recommended by them. I opened the account under my name. After months of trying to find an easier way to load money to the card ( other than my only option of going to XXXX with cash ). I called Bluebird, the representative was unhelpful and put me on hold until the call eventually hung up on me. There was approximately {$260.00} on the card at that time. XXXX recommended that I open the Bluebird American Express instead. I was able to open a Bluebird Amex and put {$100.00} to start. But when I tried to open a subaccount for my daughter, I kept getting an error message that an account already existed. I called Bluebird to ask how to fix this. Their representative said I had to cancel my daughter 's current subaccount and set up a new account. I asked how I would get the money off the current card and he said I could transfer the funds remaining once she had her new subaccount. He then put me on hold and after waiting 15 minutes the call was cut off. After cancelling my daughter 's first account and opening another subaccount for her I was able to order a card to be delivered to her. I went online to transfer the funds from my 1st card to the new account. I was unable to do so. Just kept getting error messages. I then tried to transfer the money to my daughters subaccount and was also denied. I tried to call Bluebird to ask for help and I got a message that my account was permanently suspended for fraudulent activity and the call hung up on me. Then I received an email from Bluebird saying my account was permanently suspended. Despite numerous calls I was never able to speak with a representative, I would just get the permanently suspended message and the call would be cut off. I have never had a worse experience with a company. It is especially frustrating as we are long time American Express XXXX card holders. I would like my funds remaining ( {$360.00} from both accounts ) sent to me by check immediately.

Consumer Complaint: I, the consumer and natural person, was denied credit by American Express when I applied for an American Express XXXX XXXX Adverse action against a consumer is AGAINST THE LAW according to the Equal Credit Opportunity Act which is codified in 15 U.S.C 1691c and is pursuant to civil liability under 15 U.S.C 1692k. You are subject to criminally liability for violating 15 U.S.C 1691 as I have proof that I was discriminated against by American Express due to the adverse action letter I received which is included with this letter. American Express is in violation of 15 U.S. Code 1642, U.S.C 1681m and 12 cfr 1002 because I, the consumer, made an application in good faith, but credit was not issued. Furthermore, because my social security number ( credit card ) was used, and I received NO benefit. Consumer Complaint: I have a credit card account with American Express National Bank ( originally American Express XXXX XXXX ). This account went into default during 2020 because of Covid-related loss of income. My contract with American Express specified that late fees will not exceed {$38.00} per billing cycle, as follows : ( 1 ) the first time it happens, the late fee is {$27.00} ; ( 2 ) if late payment happens again within 6 billing cycles, the late fee is escalated to {$38.00}. American Express has billed and is attempting to collect excessive late fees. I do not have every statement since the account went into default, but I have three statements that show the following : ( 1 ) first late fee charged was {$29.00}, not {$27.00} ; ( 2 ) a second late fee was {$40.00}, not {$38.00} ; and ( 3 ) a third late fee was also {$38.00}, not {$40.00}. This may seem trivial when you consider my account alone, but this type of unfair billing seems to be a systemic issue with American Express. CFPB has previously sanctioned American Express XXXX XXXX for unfair fees and billing : https : //www.consumerfinance.govXXXX If this is happening to me, it is unlikely that I am the only one.

Consumer Complaint: I had a charge on my account that I did not authorize. I was in XXXX when I saw it and couldnt get through to amex by phone so I just clicked that I was disputing the charge online and then kept my card locked until I returned to the US and then called then and had the card closed due to the fraud. They did so and sent me a new card and today I got a letter from Amex saying I am responsible for the charge. I called them and asked them why they are holding me responsible for a fraudulent charge and they gave me a lot of trouble about it, suggesting I just made the charge and forgot. They looked up the company and said it was a taxi and I re-iterated I have never made a {$150.00} charge with any taxi. They finally re-filed it as a fraud dispute but I dont trust them at all to take care of it and am asking for your help. I believe I am not supposed to held accountable for a fraudulent charge. I paid hundreds of dollars for this card and pay my account in full every month- why are they interested in protecting the criminals instead of me???

Consumer Complaint: American Express card- I checked my account closely at XXXX 2021 and charges totaling {$4500.00} to e-gift cards from XXXX were on my mobile account. I reported this immediately and was told this happened to others and not just me! XXXXnvestigation and I assumed their Investigator for Fraud called me and it was hard to clearly hear him. Again, I assumed and shouldnt have!! They have now told me I am still responsible for these e-gift cards-I am an old lady and I do Not do anything EVER with e-gift cards. I never made the purchases!! I have been arguing with the Fraud Dept. For Months! They have also reported this to the credit bureaus!! XXXX XXXX is not taking responsibility here! I dont have $ to pay for Fraud on my account!
