Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement
Subissue: Card was charged for something you did not purchase with the card
Consumer Complaint: My American Express Everyday card was stolen and I contacted American Express immediately at the time I realized my credit card was missing. I spoke to the representative on the phone and clarified that the charges in question were fraudulent charges and stated that all of the charges in question were NOT authorized by me, the cardholder. I had received a text message regarding a fraudulent charge and being in the middle of a business call incorrectly typed in the number to determine that an attempted charge was indeed fraudulent. I am the only one authorized to use my credit card, I did not authorize the {$480.00} charge, and nobody else is authorized to use my credit card. The charge in question was for a total of at least {$480.00} on XX/XX/XXXX. It has been over a month and saw that American Express reversed the credit for the fraudulent charges in question. Screenshots documenting the time frame of when I responded to the alert text message, and tried to correct my initial response ( selecting option 2 ) after realizing the message will be included.

Consumer Complaint: I had 2 purchases on my Amex XXXX card with XXXX XXXX, and then I also received 2 credits from the XXXX tax agency in regards to these 2 purchases. The initial charges were on XX/XX/XXXX for XXXX XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX for XXXX XXXX. My XXXX XXXX XXXX indicate AMEX converts these charges at the actual currency exchange rate. When I look on XXXX to see the FX rates I am given worse rates. The XX/XX/XXXX transaction AMEX charged me US {$3800.00} and on XX/XX/XXXX XXXX {$7000.00}. When I go on the XXXX site it should be closer to US {$3800.00} and US {$7000.00}. I tried to dispute it but no one talks to me and they simply close the case with no explanation. Then on XX/XX/XXXX I received 2 credits for the above transactions for XXXX XXXX and XXXX XXXX. The merchant is listed as a different name because it is a XXXX credit. The FX rate I was given on this day for the credit was XXXX USD to XXXX. On this day XXXX XXXX was equal to XXXX USD so I was undercredited significantly. Even worse, the XXXX TO USD has not been at XXXX in over 20 years so its even crazier. Amex XXXX indicates you get the actual rate on the transaction. When I look at ALL my fx transactions, it seems American Express is playing with the bid/ask rates and skimming versus in reality giving the real rate. I have 2 asks : 1 ) I am credited back ~ {$160.00} on the above 4 transactions 2 ) American Express explain to me why they are skimming? If you look at all transactions, they are always at the worst rate for that day.

I disputed some additional fees that the collectors added that I was not notified of. American Express bought back the XXXX that they claim I still owed and put it back on my credit report for the pass 6 months ruining my credit but its shows that the account is closed, this is very unfair it is corporate bully Ive paid over the interest rate more than I owe this company.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, I received the first Notice of Data Breach letter from XXXX XXXX informing me that the security of my personal and private information was compromised and accessed by an unauthorized third party in a recent data breach. I was not made aware of this security threat until XX/XX/XXXX despite the fact this has been an active investigation first discovered in XX/XX/XXXX. The investigation and review of the involved XXXX systems found that all secure information on their systems including name, date of birth, drivers license number, passport number, financial banking account numbers and Social Security number were exposed. Due to the fact I was not made aware of this until XX/XX/XXXX, I did not have any time to act or prepare for what was to come. One week earlier was when I was hacked as all my secured information was utilized by unauthorized parties. On XX/XX/XXXX, my identity was stolen, and my information was fraudulently misused to electronically withdraw {$10000.00} ( estimated funds ) from my checking account, apply for XXXX credit cards/lines of credit and place orders on my behalf using my banking credentials. The initial fraud activity began on XX/XX/XXXX, when I noticed unusual activity across XXXX unauthorized transactions made using my debit card totaling {$630.00}. I addressed this on-site at my local XXXX XXXX XXXX Bank that same day where my debit card was all that was thought to be affected, so they issued me a new More than 180 languages available. one. This proved to be wrong as my checking account was unlawfully used on XX/XX/XXXX in the form of ACH and electronic bank transfers totaling {$10000.00}. I went back to the XXXX XXXX XXXX Bank local branch with whom closed and opened a new checking account after confirming that both my debit and checking account credentials were jeopardized. I did not make or authorize any of the charges in question which were disputed and confirmed in an accurate statement provided following the investigation. The charges related to the fraudulent amount was credited back to my checking account by XX/XX/XXXX after the decision was made that these were not authorized on my behalf. I then checked my credit report to see that my SSN and personal information were also compromised and used to unlawfully apply for credit lines and credit cards. There were XXXX hard inquiries processed on XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX by unauthorized parties in an attempt to open up a credit card on my behalf. The information disputed are listed below, which appears on my credit report, but do not relate to any transaction ( s ) or applications that I have made or authorized. I have not applied for any lines of credit since XX/XX/XXXX when I bought a home. These XXXX hard inquiries have been declined and marked as fraud with each company as I have called to speak with them and ensure a letter be also issued to my credit reporting for accurate information updating and removal of falsified information reported.. FTC Report Number : XXXX Credit Card Opened by the Thief Hard Inquiries Requested to Remove as they are the result of identity theft. See Below. I have XXXX identity Works free membership for a year granted to those affected, so I have been able to remove the hard inquiries reported from XXXX agency only, as the XXXX and XXXX require my own manual handling to remove.

Consumer Complaint: I applied for an American Express XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX for my very small business. I received a denial after providing them my bank information. They claimed 1. That I had a recent returned returned check. 2. I do not pay my credit card balances. I contacted American Express and I was told to reach out to XXXX where they get their information. XXXX stated and confirmed I do pay my credit cards on time and I am not late. I have XXXX consumer cards with American Express and I have never defaulted or made a late payment. I then asked XXXX who is writing bad checks in my name? American Express told me I had returned checks. They stated that they have no bad checks on my credit report. American Express wrongly denied me of a credit card based on inaccurate information. I need this to be resolved so they stop denying me of credit. I can only imagine who else this is happening to.

Consumer Complaint: I opened a dispute with American Express for a missing payment on my account of {$7000.00}. AMEX sent me an e-mail saying I was not responsible for the amount under review ( {$7000.00} ) while they continue their investigation. When I called to get my payment due for the month I was advised that I am responsible for paying the {$7000.00} during the investigation and AMEX will not honor their communication to me that the amount is suspended from my balance. AMEX is not standing by their written communications regarding payments due. Below are quotes from the email I received on XXXX XXXX XXXX " We're looking into it now. You won't be responsible for the {$7000.00} while we investigate. If we find that your dispute is valid, we'll be sure to adjust any interest charges or fees incurred from the disputed amount. '' AND " We'll remove the amount under review from your required payment due so that you don't have to pay the disputed amount while it's under investigation. '' When I called, a customer service rep and supervisor said they could see the e-mail referenced above but I had to pay the disputed amount anyway.
